Annick Goutal Songes Eau de Toilette
Advantages: bottle, staying power, lovely evening scent
Annick Goutal is a perfume house which offers fragrances such as Gardenia Passion, Quel Amour and Vanille Exquise.
'A perfume with a unique sensuality, touched with sun and emotion'
Songes is a fragrance which was released in 2005 and falls into the floral/oriental fragrance family. Songes is available in an Eau de toilette, an Eau de parfum and a shower gel.
Songes was created by Camille Goutal (the nose of the Annick Goutal brand) after being inspired whilst walking through an exotic garden in Mauritius. Her journey through this garden occured at night and she felt complied to create a scent based on her thoughts of this garden.
The eau de toilette bottle is very pretty and allows the light golden perfume to be visible. The bottle itself is quite old fashioned - curvy with a ridged appearance. It is given a modern, feminine twist through the addition of a pretty bow around the neck. The bottle is finished off with a chunky gold lid. The EDP is presented in a similar bottle but there is a limited edition moon bottle available as well.
Songes has been created using three sets of fragrance notes which develop in stages.
*Top notes create the initial scent - tiare flower and frangipani
*Heart notes offer a main body of the scent - ylang-ylang absolute and Sambac jasmine absolute
*Base notes round off the scent - French vanilla absolute
Songes isn't a cheap perfume. The EDT is available in a 50ml and 100ml size from the following shops/websites :
*Amazon - £54 and £62.57
*House of Fraser - £54 and £75
*www.escentual.com - £54 and £75
Prior to using Songes, I had never actually heard of Annick Goutal. The brand offers several scents and I wouldn't mind trying out some more. They aren't quite as available as the likes of Chanel and Dior hence why I may have not spotted them on my fragrance travels before. I love the bottle - it is quite charming and pleasant to look at despite the old fashioned appearance.
I must admit, I wasn't totalled enthralled when I first tried Songes. I have learned not to judge a perfume by its initial burst of scent. The initial scent, whilst we are talking about it, was quite heavy and musky - it soon disappeared and I began to appreciate the delights that Songes had to offer me.
~Night Time Delights~
Songes is the perfect evening scent. It is feminine with a classic, rich and tempting aroma. I love evening scents and Songes bears a striking resemblence to Ghost Deep Night but with more character and several pounds more expensive! As soon as the top notes settle on the skin, the scent is full bodied and enchanting.
The tiare flower and frangipani blend together to create the most intoxicating scent with heavenly depths - it truely is a delight to experience and makes me think of a deep floral scent with sweet undertones and a light hint of musk. It isn't your typical 'opening sequence' but is highly addictive and sets the tone for a beautiful perfume.
After an hour or so, Songes takes a twist and a stunning combination of fragrance notes dance around one another. The depth from the top notes is still very much apparent. It blends with the jasmine to create a sensual, romantic scent which is full of rich 'flavour'. The ylang-ylang isn't too noticeable and doesn't detract from the heavenly sensual aroma - it simply lightens it a little to stop it becoming too heavy and is only noticeable as a slight undertone.
Songes remains prominent on my skin for 4-5hours before the scent becomes even more attractive. The ylang-ylang undertone disappears as the French vanilla whispers its way into the scent. Vanilla is probably my favourite fragrance note and it rounds off Songes perfectly. The depth from the tiare flower and frangipani can still be witnessed but in a much subtler form. The vanilla comes through as being very natural - nothing nasty and artificial here. It provides a delicate, creamy sweetness to the scent which can be witnessed for a further few hours and longer on my clothing.
~Conclusion and Recommendation~
Songes EDT lasts well on my skin and smells absolutely delicious. It has everything one could possibly want from a high quality, expensive designer perfume. It is a confident scent which I love wearing when going out. My fiance has commented that it comes across as quite sexy after I have been wearing it for a few hours.
It is expensive but one bottle is lasts well and I only wear it occasionally as it is a bit too special for day to day use.
Overall recommended 4 stars!
Thanks for reading :)
