Advantages: Beautiful, delicate, summery, well priced and a lovely bottle.
Disadvantages: The bottle whilst beautiful is not quite as designer looking as other more expensive brands.
Avon do a huge array of fragrances and most people have heard of one or two from their collection because of how many years they have been around.
The Avon in Bloom fragrance is by Reese Witherspoon. Reese Witherspoon is a global ambassador to Avon and her face and name is linked to a range of products with Avon. Avon in Bloom is one of four fragrances by Reese Witherspoon, the other fragrances include Laugh Often, Live Without Regrets and Love to the Fullest. These fragrances I am always attracted to in the Avon brochure. I have never purchased the other fragrances but in a brochure before Christmas it featured Avon in Bloom with a caption next to it saying 'last chance to buy.' At that point I thought why not, the bottle looked lovely (from the picture) and I had mildly smelt it on the rub/scratch and smell panel on the page.
When it arrived and I removed the 50ml bottle out of its cellophane lemon box I was really pleased with the bottle and I had a quick spray of it. Again I was not disappointed. The bottle sits on a rounded glass base which shows an orangey/yellow/gold shade to the fragrance itself. The plastic but robust lid which you just pull off is made to look like an intricately woven flower with its petals. I think this is one of Avon's nicest looking fragrance bottles, when looking through the Avon brochure other fragrance bottles look cheaper and less thought out when designed which is is a shame because they may smell beautiful like this one.
This is an Eau de Parfum in strength. I paid £8.99 for the fragrance and it is shown as no longer available on the Avon website. However, it may show up in an Avon clearance brochure in the future and it is being sold on eBay new for £8.75 plus P&P. From what I have seen in the brochure and online it only comes in a 50ml bottle no other sizes. However, in the Avon in Bloom by Reese Witherspoon there is also a shower gel, bottle lotion and body mist. I ordered the body mist as well on my order which was out of stock and my Avon representative never got in stock again which was disappointing.
So when I first spray it I instantly get hit by what seems like quite a strong fragrance packed full of fresh citrusy smells like mandarin. However, when reading the description by Avon I noticed that citrus fruits were not described so the citrus type smell must be from the magnolia and jasmine blossoms. Then as the fragrance reduces from its first waft (about 30 seconds later) it smells quite alcoholic because it has not settled or warmed properly. Then about 5 minutes later it is much more subtle and it changes into a floral and oriental fragrance, the floral ingredients are smelt first which seem to reduce to an oriental base. As time goes on the fragrance is still detectable and the ingredients just blend together so beautifully to make a really rich yet smooth fragrance with a lot of depth which I think is from the oriental base. I can still smell this on myself in the evening after spraying it first thing in the morning which is very unusual for me. Most fragrances seem to disappear after just a couple of hours on my skin. Additionally I only gave one spray for my wrists and one spray for my neck so I certainly do not plaster myself in my fragrance which to me shows it is a truly long lasting fragrance.
It is such an unusual fragrance and I think that if its label was well known such as Marc Jacobs this would be an extremely popular fragrance and I think it could sell at a much higher price tag yet the bottle would probably have to be revamped for a higher designer label though.
I would say that it is a day time or summery fragrance. The name Avon in Bloom tends to suggest this anyway I think as well as the bottle. I tend to like a slightly heavier /richer fragrance in the evening. But I am certainly tempted to try another Avon fragrance in the future as my evening fragrance!
Definitely a gorgeous fragrance and worth purchasing especially if it turns up in an Avon Clearance brochure in the future (as most discontinued products do!).
Summary: A beautiful, delicate, yet noticeable fragrance, with floral notes and an oriental base.
