Advantages: Smells lovely, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit heavy for daytime wear
Everyone in my family gets either Avon perfume or aftershave for each birthday and Christmas without fail, so it's no surprise that my mam got me a bottle of Avon True Glow perfume this year.
I'll be honest, a lot of the Avon perfumes are not to my taste, and I find it irritating that you can't test them before using them - I know they do scented pages, but they don't seem very accurate to me!
When I took this out of the box I wasn't overly keen on the design of the bottle. It comes in a glass bottle that has an orangey tone to it, with the lid being more yellowy, and is an unusual wavy shape. I think the idea is that it looks like a flame.
The bottle is not the worst I have seen from Avon, but personally I prefer something a bit prettier and more feminine, and also I found that because of the unusual shape the lid was quite difficult to remove, which also made this a little impractical.
Avon simply describe this as 'floral and woody.' I wouldn't normally go for a woody scent, as I think woody and I tend to think 'masculine' but I was surprised at how this perfume actually smelled...
When you first spray this perfume, I think the main scent that comes out is actually orange. It has a really nice citrussy scent, with a woody undertone that takes the sharpness away from the citrus.
As it settles on the skin, although the orangeyness is still noticeable, the deeper middle and base notes start to come through, and it's here that they are a bit more woody and also slightly musky, yet still feminine and not too heavy.
Because this is a quite deep scent I would say it is more for evening wear than something I would wear during the day. It reminds me of summer nights actually and I think this would be gorgeous for the summer. The mix of citrus and the more woody tones make it smell quite exotic and although I usually go for a lighter more feminine and sometimes more glamorous sort of a scent, I was surprised that I liked this so much.
The fragrance is an Eau de Parfum, so stronger than an Eau de Toilette, and as such it has more staying power. I find a couple of sprays will last me all night and I don't need to re-apply very often, which hopefully will make this a very cost effective perfume.
On the subject of cost a 50ml bottle of this perfume will cost you just £12 from your Avon rep or www.avonshop.co.uk which I think is excellent value for money.
As I said, many of the Avon perfumes are not to my taste, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this one. Although it is a little too heavy for me to wear during the day, I have been wearing it at night, and I'm also using a few of the matching products now as well. I'd definitely recommend giving this a try.
Summary: One of the better Avon scents
