Balenciaga L'Essence Eau de Parfum
Advantages: nice bottle
Disadvantages: quite heavy
Another perfume I was recently given by my friend is this Balenciaga L'Essence fragrance, I had never tried a Balenciaga fragrance before, so was a bit unsure and for some reason I had a feeling it might be quite heavy. The bottle and everything looked very nice though, and I do like to give everything a try so I like to try and be unbiased about fragrances. This is a new fragrance just out so you may not know much about it yet but the name sounded nice so I was glad to add another scent to my collection.
The bottle of this is quite plain and not very special but it is quite elegant in a way. It is a clear hexagon shaped bottle almost and has green liquid inside which you can see. It is an enchanting bottle with a spherical lid and it is thick but it is easy to hold and looks very nice. Around the top of the lid it has a gold band and it says Balenciaga Paris engraved so it does look quite expensive but the bottle doesn't really give much away about the perfume itself.
This fragrance on first spray hit me quite quickly as being very heavy and much more of a night perfume. It seemed very overpowering and floral. It definitely struck me as being a scent for a much older woman and normally I like a much lighter scent. I didn't want to judge too much on first though as I like to try a fragrance a few times to truly know if I like it or not as sometimes it can grow on your when wearing it more. I decided to see what fragrance notes it was made up of also.
The perfume being quite heavy does strike me mainly as floral and a faint sweetness but upon looking at the notes it is made up of violet leaves, it is meant to be quite a woody, earthy type scent but I can't say I really pick up on that when smelling this. It is definitely a statement scent but I just feel too old with this perfume on as I normally like something a bit more youthful. The scent doesn't need more than one spray and you are very aware that you are wearing it.
This is a perfume more likely for an older woman, I think on a younger woman it'd seem wrong. It definitely stays on long when you spray it, it doesn't really fade all that much so in that sense you'll use less perfume but it does soften ever so slightly after the first spray. It is quite a nice scent but just like I said a bit too much for me as I like a more subtle scent. It is a feminine scent and has a sweetness to it and is quite bold and would make you stand out from the crowd.
If you like a stronger eau de parfum then you will like this or if you are looking for something a bit more suitable for eveningwear or for a sophisticated occasion then again, this might take your fancy. It is not my most used but I do wear it to evening affairs and the bottle does look nice still and it is good to have a range of fragrances so that you are not always in the same one.
This fragrance is available from all department stores and is being sold by Harvey Nichols, the 50ml for £59 which seems like a lot but it is about what everywhere is selling it for. The 30ml is £44 which again is a lot for a smaller bottle and the 75ml is £75 and they also do a candle which is £48.
There is no official website for this fragrance but Harvey Nichols give a clear description and gallery on it at http://www.harveynichols.com.
