---SPRITZ ME BABY ONE MORE TIME---
Britney Spears foray into the world of perfume in 2004 was viewed with some scepticism and with more than a little ridicule. I think most people thought that anything to do with label 'Britney' would be cheap, tacky and naff. Basically I think they were all expecting her new perfume to be: 'Eau de trailer trash', rather than a delightful 'Eau de Parfum'. I didn't, however.-
So when Ms Spears brought out 'Curious' I immediately wanted it. I didn't care what it smelt like, the azure blue faceted bottle was stunning! And I needed to own it as soon as.-
~* CURIOUS *~
Curious is presented to us in a square box with a dark background. Covering the box there are baby pink and blue large abstract flowers. The bands running around the base of the box are baby blue and pink respectively. To the front are the words: 'CURIOUS' Britney Spears are sitting within a shocking pink square. Beneath this is written 'Eau de Parfum. Spray Atomizer' 3.3 fl oz. 100ml, and it appears from the packaging that they are trying to promote a fun and funky image for the Britney Spears Curious Eau de Parfum. Curious is produced under licence by the Elizabeth Arden brand. The perfumer used was Claude Der and the beautiful bottle was designed by Jean Antretter.
Britney Spears vision for the perfume bottle design was to be based on the vintage perfume bottle, hence the atomiser tube and puffer and tassel and I think she is definitely onto a winner here. Britney loves the old perfume bottles and getting the design of the bottle right was very important to her. On opening the box you are greeted by the words "Do you dare?" which is the perfumes signature tag. Now this is a very cleverly designed box; as all the sides fall flat as you lift the perfume. It is made to represent a flower blooming, hence the flowers on the box, and the main accord which is Louisiana magnolia, Louisiana being Britney's birth state; all looking very flowery and feminine so far. -
--- CURIOUS - THE SIZES ---
Curious comes in 30 ml 1oz Eau de Parfum spray - 50 ml 1.75oz Eau de Partum spray - 100ml 3.3oz Eau De Partum Spray - Curious Coffret which consists of a 50ml bottle of the Eau de Partum spray and a 200ml size of deliciously whipped body soufflé. There are also other complimentary combinations to be had, and they are all packaged in the same delightful flower presentation boxes. -
--- CURIOUS THE BOTTLE ---
The bottle is stunning and it is this that sold the Curious to me long before I even knew if I would like the fragrance. The bottle is a lovely shape; it is like a raised diamond on a stand with scalloping around the edge of the faceted bottle. The bottle is sparkling azure blue in appearance with a round blue glass lid on the 30 ml and 50ml sizes. On the 100 ml you are supplied with a blue tasslled puffer to screw and secure onto the top of the Curious bottle. This has a long blue tube which draws the perfume up when the bulb of the puffer is squeezed. The actual style of atomizer is modelled upon the old fashioned dressing table style perfume bottle where the tasselled end would fan attractively upon the surface, more like an ornament than a perfume. Around the shining silver top band are two chains embossed with tiny diamante, from which dangle two small pink glass hearts, and the whole presentation of the bottle is absolutely gorgeous to look at. The design is quite perfect, and beautifully created by Jean Antretter on behalf of the 'Britney Brand'. -
--- CURIOUS THE FRAGRANCE ---
I was actually expecting not to like the Eau de Toilette at all; I just wanted to own the gorgeous bottle. I thought the perfume would be very girly but I was in for a very pleasant surprise. The main fragrance I was greeted by was magnolia and lotus flower, which was sweet, but also a slightly sour smell which actually worked very well on first impression; Sweet and sour, quite a nice combination really. After a few hours it changed and the vanilla musk was quite evidently coming through as the middle note with the tangy pear, which is the aroma I had smelt faintly on first spraying the Eau de Partum. This really is a very pleasant perfume. It is floral, vanilla and musky, with some other interesting notes lingering in there too. It doesn't have great staying power I'm afraid and after a couple of hours it had all but faded away. But while it is at its peak it is a really lovely smell. It is quite sensual with an exhilarating and romantic impression. I think I would possibly have this again after my present Curious has run out. It actually reminded me a little, of Lou-Lou by Cacharel, probably for the strong smell of vanilla mainly. -
---THE CURIOUS NOTES---
---The top notes---
Top notes of Louisiana magnolia - Golden Anjou Pear - Lotus Flower
---The middle notes---
Middle notes of Tuberose - Star Jasmine - Pink Cyclamen
---The base notes---
Base notes of Vanilla-Infused Musk - Sandalwood - Blonde woods
Well I was very pleasantly surprised with the Britney Spears 'CURIOUS' Eau de Partum. Obviously the Perfumer Claude Der did a brilliant in job creating the fragrance and he has done the singer proud on the blending of fragrances for her first perfume. I thought Curious was lovely; Quite a fresh, white floral scent, with a sensual vanilla depth. It is a very feminine scent. As I said the lasting power isn't too great, but this isn't an expensive perfume so you can afford to be quite generous with it. It's worth buying Curious for the bottle alone which is fab; so pretty.
Do I recommend it? Well because of its poor staying power I'll leave that up to you. What I would say is, for the price its not a bad buy. The Curious range of complimentary products is pretty impressive also. Back up Curious products consist of: Deliciously whipped body soufflé - Totally Ticklish body shimmer - Lather me up shower gel - Two Tempting fragranced roller ball - You're so smooth body polish - Write on! Perfumed Shimmer Stick. -
At the moment Boots are doing the 30ml Curious for just £15.00 which I think is a pretty good price. Britney Spears has in all, three perfumes to her name, being: Curious - Fantasy - Midnight Fantasy - and all come in the most gorgeous bottles. -
---The 30 ml and 50 ml Curious is an Eau de Parfum spray with the blue faceted lid---
---The 100 ml Curious is an Eau de Parfum atomiser and comes with the attractive blue tasselled puffer---
"The sparkling facets of the azure blue glass inspire curiosity - The heart shaped charms inspire luck in love"
