Advantages: strong jasmine tones, durable, reasonable price

Disadvantages: some might find it too sickly sweet

Burberry London is a woman's fragrance which was launched in 2005 and shouldn't be confused with Burberry which was released some 8 years or so prior. Burberry is essentially a British company and as far as I know they try to market this scent as something very English!

A friend of mine was wearing it some time back and I admired the smell and lo and behold she presented me a bottle all for myself as a Christmas gift. In general I don't advocate giving perfumes to people as gifts unless you know what they like - my friend's gift could have backfired quite easily as perfumes that might smell good on one person might not smell so good on someone else. Read on and you'll see how I felt about this particular scent...

On opening the box (which has Burberry written all over, ok not quite literally but it has the signature Burberry design of black, white and red checks which is easily recognisable), I found this quaint bottle with Burberry check cloth wound around the body of the rectangle bottle with a plain square lid. I smiled thinking it was rather unusual and somewhat quirky (my first Burberry scent, so I had the prerogative to be amused).

As it was Christmas morning, I squirted my wrists quite liberally knowing I would be having a shower shortly so I knew if I didn't like it, I would be having that shower even earlier than I had planned to!! I have to admit I was very pleasantly surprised. The first thing my husband said when I waved my wrist in front of him was "Are you wearing a jasmine scent?" He has a good nose as Burberry London does indeed have jasmine as one of its ingredients. Hubby was suitably impressed with the scent on me and I had to admit that I liked it myself.

Having worn it a few times to work since the first time I used it, I found that I couldn't particularly detect the scent on myself during the day but when I got home after work my hubby asked me if I was wearing "that new jasmine scent again". So its durability can't be bad if it can be detected even after 8 to 10 hours of first spraying it.

I would describe Burberry London as a modern fragrance (it's meant to capture and celebrate London city and its style, don't you know) and it's probably best for daytime wear as it's quite refreshing and rather subtle. Depending on your palette you may or may not enjoy the mixture of ingredients which includes rose, tiare flower, jasmine, peony, sandalwood, musk, honeysuckle and patchouli - personally I love rose, jasmine, sandalwood and musk although a lot of people might find some of these ingredients too heady in a perfume. According to my husband who has a very strong sense of smell (my nose works well enough but he's very good at distinguishing different aromas) he says the jasmine is the most powerful smell in Burberry London and he likes it well enough. What about me personally? Well I do like Burberry London and can see myself buying it for myself when my gift bottle runs out.

Burberry London can be purchased in several sizes including 5ml, 30ml, 50ml and 100ml and I feel the price falls within the cheap to medium range with a 30ml bottle costing around £12-15 and a 100ml bottle in the range of £25-41.

As I said above I can actually see myself buying more of Burberry London when I use up my first bottle - but I don't think it'll be in my top 5 perfumes that I adore. Ysatis de Givenchy has been my favourite for over 20 years and nothing has yet come close to moving it from my top position! All in all I'd give Burberry London a generous 7 out of 10 for appeal, durability and cost.

Summary: I like it, but it's not in my top 5 fave perfumes!

From your descriptions it does sound very nice and I am fond of jasmine but I also like Ysatis de Givency too although it took me ages to get used to that smell. At first I thought it was too overpowering but love it now and it says on for ages. So I think you havesold Burberry London to me. Fab review!
