Advantages: Light and easy to wear fragrance
Disadvantages: The box and bottle have a dated look
~Tell me about Anais Anais~
Anais Anais seems to have been around for so long that I had almost put it to the back of my mind and hadn't worn it for a good number of years until recently. I bought myself a gift set which contained a bottle of Anais Anais after re acquainting myself with the scent at the fragrance counter and found that I still rather liked it. The bottle and box still seem to be the same as when I used to wear it and the familiar fragrance that Anais Anais gave off in previous years seemed to be as pretty, light and easy to wear as it always was.
The fragrance is one that will suit a variety of fragrance buyers, yet may appeal to a more mature woman as the box and bottle design do convey a slightly mumsy Laura Ashleyesque feeling due to the uber fussy florals used in the presentation of the fragrance. I feel that I rather like the slightly old fashioned look of the bottle and the box however that may be partly due to the fact that I know the actual fragrance inside is rather pleasant and easy to wear. I do feel that had I never sampled Anais Anais, I may have been put off by the overall look and passed it by and so I would suggest that you give the fragrance a chance before writing it off as you may be pleasantly surprised.
~The fragrance notes~
The fragrance smells very floral yet light and soft with a slightly powdery feel that rather suits it. There is a slightly sharp tangy feel when you first spray on a little of the fragrance although that does fade as soon as the fragrance dries down on the skin. I do feel that the fragrance gives away its age a little, as it does give off a late 1970s early 1980s feel when you smell it. I would say that even so the fragrance is still very wearable and pretty and provides reasonable value for money when you weigh up price verses longevity on the skin and quality of the fragrance as it wears.
Cacharel say that lily, sweet rose and amber are blended with frankincense within the fragrance to give a sense of intrigue and pleasure. I cannot say that I have found those last two sensations to be anything like my own experience with the fragrance, however I can say that I do like the sweet lily and rose combination that works well in the fragrance. I feel the ingredients give off a very feminine pretty and light scent that is soft, powdery and easy to wear throughout the day. I do find that the fragrance fades after a few hours and does need to be spritzed on again if I want it to remain with me for longer, although just a light spritz is generally enough to re-invigorate the fragrance again.
~Summary and product rating ~
I feel that the opaque white fragrance bottle with its easy to use spray applicator sits well when in use and is heavy enough to stand a few knocks without breaking or chipping. The lid goes on with a little click yet it seems to come off all too easily even with a very light pressure which is a very slight minus point. A small sized bottle of the fragrance begins at 30mls, with the next sizes being 50mls and 100mls. Prices can range from £14 to £16 for the smaller 30ml bottle which seems a fair price for such a light and pretty floral fragrance and can be as much as £35 plus for the 100ml sized bottle. As far as rating the fragrance I feel it is a very easy to wear fragrance that will suit a wide range of fragrance wearers with ease and as such I would like to give Anais Anais a 4 star product rating.
