***********************Background***************** *

Eternity Moment is a fragrance created by Calvin Klein and is inspired by ‘the exhilaration of falling in love.’ The face of its advertising campaign is the ever radiant Scarlett Johansson whose youth, beauty and charm serve to create an image of perfection for the perfume.

The fragrance is a younger sister of the infamous Eternity Perfume. Eternity was created by Calvin Klein as a celebration of his marriage and thus so is more suited to the more mature woman entering such a stage in her life. The CK Company seem to have spotted a niche in the market for a younger generation of women enticed by the romantic idea of eternity but seeking something lighter to reflect the fleeting but ‘exhilarating’ feeling they themselves feel as the fall in love for perhaps the first time. Eternity Moment aims to capture this feeling.

The first time I became aware of the fragrance was from the advertising campaign. The image created was captivating in that it mixed Scarlett’s casual elegance with her refined glamour as she indulged in all the idealistic romantic scenes. It gave the perfume a magical air and the pleasant delusion that if you wear this perfume this is the world you will enter into, not necessarily true but it provides excitement when choosing to buy a perfume.

***********************Packaging***************** ****
The second thing to catch attention is the packaging. The design of the box is fairly traditional; a rectangular façade in a dusky pink with a palest pink border. It is fairly minimalist in that it in not illustrated and has little writing on. The name is striking to the eye but its thin, almost spidery font is subtle instead of vulgar. However although seemingly plain it does not actually verge on the side of dullness but gives a classical appearance that oozes sophistication. The bottle is similar in design to the box. It is cuboid and devoid of embellishment. The eye is immediately drawn to the lid which is mock glass and a quirky ‘T’ shape which gives a nostalgic and highly charming appearance. The glass is clear to show the pale pink colour of the perfume off to best advantage. From a glance at the perfume you perceive it as feminine but not overtly so. Moreover it has the air of being highly chic and elegant and you really can’t help but think how beautiful it would loo on your dressing table.

*************************Scent******************* ***

However lovely the exterior is, the real focus point is the aroma of the perfume. The advertising campaign and the appearance of a perfume box gives the buyer subconscious expectations of the perfume and it can be disappointing to discover an incongruous scent that is not in fact attractive to you at all. I suppose that my expectations were for a sleek and delicate fragrance with a youthful freshness and charm. The list of ingredients inspires confidence in this. It is described as ‘A romantic & refined freshly-squeezed floral fragrance with top notes of Lychee, Guava, Pomegranate Flower and Chinese Pink Peony and with middle notes of Passion Flower, Nymphea Musks and Rosewood which are freshly squeezed and refined in the final perfume. On smelling the perfume the youthful femininity is striking. The scent is light and is incredibly fresh. The alcohol is indistinct and overshadowed by a beautiful concoction of flowery and fruity scents which compliment each other and achieve a delicious innocence and dreaminess. Yet beyond this, from the middle notes, lurks something a little more shadowy. There is a blend of heavier and more insistent musk and dark woody scents which gives the impression of a darker yearning, beneath the wistful top notes.

I first inhaled the scent on the cards provided when perfume testing. I have generally found that this is where a fragrance is at its best. When perfume is applied to skin, body heat can cause it to smell completely differently and usually not as pleasant. I would say that the same is true of eternity moment and it is a terrible shame. The beautiful fragrance can be reduced to smelling cheap, stale and highly disappointing. To remedy this I have discovered that the best time to apply it is on cool, dry and clean skin, so about five minutes after showering. The cardinal rule is that perfume must NEVER be applied when wearing clothes, even underwear and jewellery. Whatever you read about spritzing perfume in the air and walking through it just before leaving the house, please ignore. The perfume embeds itself in the fibres of the clothes and instead of naturally evaporating off like on the skin it lingers and becomes stale. Therefore there is no absolute rule of which body part to apply perfume to. However there are some no-go areas. Anywhere on the body that secretes its own scent, such us behind the ears, will mix with the perfume and most likely degrade it. Apart from this you should apply perfume to anywhere you wish to draw attention to that is not beneath your clothes (lets face it if it is your best feature you should be flaunting it anyway). When I have bare legs I apply it to the back of my knees and the scent continuously floats upwards when walking. Application to the collarbone or back is sensational and a little applied to your inner wrists can have breathtaking when flirting as a natural body movement is to flick your wrist to expose the attractive inner arm. Choose only one or at the most two places to apply the perfume as otherwise highlighting is lost and the fragrance can become overpowering. The scent of Eternity Moment is delicate but more than a couple spritzes undermines this and its beauty becomes lost.

************************Value******************** ***

Eternity Moment is a modestly priced perfume and a 30 ml bottle can be bought for around £26.00 at Boots although it is currently on sale there for £18.00. Larger bottles can be bought but I believe that it is better to buy smaller bottles as if kept to long perfumes can start to go a bit stale. A 30 ml bottle generally lasts me about a year with twice daily applications. As a guide for present buying it is best suited to those between 16 and 24 years as beyond this it could seem a little infantile and demeaning. However I think that most within this band would appreciate its femininity and feel it is able to reflect them, as a good perfume ought to.

*************************Verdict***************** ****

Eternity Moment is a gorgeous perfume which seems to have it all. An envious image coupled with a unique and beautiful scent which can be bought for a relatively cheap price. I appreciate that perfume taste is highly personal but I would recommend this perfume to all who can relate to its delicateness, youthfulness and just general loveliness.

Summary: A fresh, beautiful and youthful fragrance

Great review but ugh glad I haven't seen yet more of the overexposed Miss Johanssen. Some interesting tips for perfume application as well, though I would never buy a fragrance without seeing how it settled on my skin first. :-)
