To avoid any confusion, the item I am reviewing here is Carolina Herrera's 212 Men On Ice (2005 Blue Edition).
This fragrance is described as adding a brisk and invigorating touch to the original 212 Men. With natural essenses of citrus fruits, cinnamon and sandlewood, this fragrance is ideal for daily and sporty use.
First off I have to ask, HOW cool does the bottle look? I actually have mine out on show in my bathroom (hey - my bathroom is blue - it matches! lol) However, as cool as it might look, on closer inspection, it does look kinda cheap...
Anyway, on to the actual fragrance - it's not particualry strong or overpowering, nor is it anything to write home about - its ordinary, generic.... but on this occasion thats actually a good thing as it makes it more accessible and definitely easier to give as a gift. Its certainly more musky than citrusy, and unmistakably masculine.
This is certainly an ideal summer fragrance (with this being a summer fragrance, and thus a limited edition, it may be difficult to get hold of, although a new edition does seem to be released annually), it lasts a fairly long time, though it does wear off after a while.
Carolina Herrera for Men came into my collection because my dad didnt like the bottle he had received as a gift. He may not have liked it, but after a quick sample I decided it was nice enough to take home and sample at a later date.
2 years later I finally got round to trying it and as always Im happy to share my views on a fairly unknown aftershave on the market.
I didnt buy my bottle, but you can expect to pay in the region of £25.00 for a 50ml bottle of the EDT. The best price I have found whilst researching the aftershave was at www.strawberrynet.com. They sell a 50ml bottle for £24.80. Shop around, you will probably get a better price. Personally I wouldnt pay more than £25 for a bottle. It is a fairly nice fragrance but nothing to write home about.
The actual packaging to this product is rather refined. The box made from good quality card is smooth to the touch, with raised gold dots making it easily identifiable to the consumer. The bottle however is rather plain and dull, being squat in nature and not standing more than 15cm tall, the clear chunky glass looks like it belongs in the 1930s. Remove the lid and you have the standard atomiser that dispenses the fragrance.
Carolina Herrera is marketed for as an aftershave for romantic occasions and is made up from the following notes:
Top notes: Fougere, clove and lavender
Middle notes: Amber, tobacco and geranium
Base notes: Sandalwood, cedar and musk
These notes to me would suggest a rather floral scent that lies on the skin rather heavily with deep woody undertones giving a masculine fragrance.
When I first sprayed myself this morning it seemed very light and refreshing. The lavender was immediately noticeable and so was the geranium, but there was also a lingering spicy smell, which was only evident when I really had a good sniff. The smell changes immediately with the floral lavender and geranium fading completely leaving the fragrance heavy, spicy with a very earthy smell.
Over time the whole fragrance fades and is replaced by an extremely spicy musk scent that although faint is noticeable to those around you. It isnt unpleasant but it certainly isnt light, refreshing or in any way sexy which means I cant understand why it is marketed as a fragrance for a romantic occasion. I get the impression that this even though nice, wouldnt have any women drooling in anticipation .
I see this more as a fragrance for casual wear and maybe for wear around the office. Its durable and lasts for well over 8 hours before fading completely so its ideal for a day at work but nothing else.
Three sprays from the bottle are all that is required to give good coverage making the actual product very good value for money, as the bottle would take well over 4 months of daily use to actually run out.
All in all Carolina Herrera isnt an offensive fragrance, its one of those fragrances that tries to be something it clearly isnt. Ill continue to wear it for work but when this bottle is finished I wont be buying another. If you are looking for a fragrance that is fairly cheap, long lasting and spicy/woody in nature this is for you. If you are looking for something light, refreshing and will make you stand head and shoulders over everyone else look for something else.
Thanks for taking the time to read and rate.
I suppose that one of the good things about travelling abroad and especially to a country where many of the heavily taxed items like cigarettes, alcohlic drink and fragrances are sold so cheapily, is that you get the opportunity to go into a shopping frenzy that you would certainly not have the pleasure of doing here in the U.K. or in Europe. One of the benefits of going shopping mad is that you tend to purchase items that vary from your usual patterns and your usual favourite brands, as you are given that opportunity by the prices that these items are available at. On my recent trip to South America I visited one of many shops specializing in these items and one shop in particular could my attention by its huge array of fragrances. This particular shop was located between the borders of Brazil & Argentina in an area referred to as “no mans land”. You couldn’t really call it a shop but rather a duty free zone consisting of several shops under own roof and specializing in Luggage, Electronics, Toys, Cigarettes, Alcohlic drinks & Fragrances to name a few. The choice of fragrances was absolutely breath taking and prior to stepping into this place my origianl intention was to pick up some cigarrettes only. That concept changed as soon as I walked into the place. It took me about one hour to walk around this shop and stopping whenever something caught my eye. Each fragrance had a tester available and you just needed to spray a bit on the special tester cards that were available on each shelf. After sampling over twenty different fragrances I settled for one, which prior to that I had only distantly heard of and that was Carolina Herrara 212 for Men. The first thing that caught my attention about 212 was the shape of the bottle. It was unlike any I had seen and it’s simplicity somehow managed to give it something that not many could deny appreciating. The bottle is shaped in a long cylin
derical form and if you were not aware that this was indeed a fragrance, many might be forgiven for thinking it was a deodorant spray or powder. It gives off a very masucline appearance in its style and colour. Both the bottle and the box are done up in a lovely matt grey silver finish and if I can recollect correctly I have never seen another fragrance in this colour. You can’t get to see the actual colour of the fragrance and I suppose in a way that is good as many a prospective customer of a fragrance are put off by several colours and primarily those that are in that limey green or plain transparent. Once again that same simplicity is reflected in the wordings on both the box and the bottle, with the words “212” and “MEN” printed without fuss on the box and simply “MEN” printed in a neon blue colour vertically on the bottle. The actual smell of 212 is something that is so difficult to explain and could only really be appreciated if one could sample it oneself. 212 for Men is referred to as containing sandalwood and spices and containing the spirit of incense. Well most fragrances contain sandalwood so what makes this one different. I suppose its that additional ingredient that give it it mystic and originality. That special ingredient has to be something to do with spices and incense, as they have rightly mentioned. It somehow envelopes you and makes you want to close your eyes for a second to take in its intense aroma. After that initial phase you are left with an extremely refreshing and oriental type of smell and something that everyone will enjoy (gals especially) I never really thought that I would feel this way about any fragrances other than my favourite ones, but then I say that all the time until another peach comes along. 212 for Men is not a fragrance that you would want to wear for casual or day wear. Rather I personally feel that this
fragrance should be reserved only for evening wear and occasions. It’s as if you need to give it a bit of respect. As far as pricing goes this is one area I cannot really help you with since I purchased it for a fraction of the price that it’s available at over here. However on average the Eau du Toillette 100ml goes for around £34.00 and the 50ml at around £24.00 a bottle. I would not recommend the Aftershave, unless you also use the EDT, as this does not really reflect the true impression of 212. I hope that I have enticed you enough to want to purchase this and what I can assure you is that 212 for Men is something, I personally think, you will never want to let go off once you have appreciated what it has to offer.
Do I sound arrogant and obnoxious saying that title? Well I can afford to be with this eau de toilette. As a 16 year old in 18 year old clubs, I need everything I can get to get one step ahead of those older guys. This goes a long way. Why? Carolina Herrera 212 for Men Smell ----- It's gorgeous. It is very clean and fresh. 'Apparently' its very sexy and a huge turn on :-)-music to any guys' ears. The smell is simple, yet exotic and it stays fresh for the whole day. If i spray some on in the morning, one spray on each side of my neck, I am sure that it was still smell as strong and good that evening well into the night. As a vain guy, I would not go out to a club without spraying twice to top up the smell or after a shower just before but I'm sure if I were to spray in the morning the effect would last all night. I find that in the morning, when your dumping your stuff in the washing, the smell is not of that stale cigarette smoke, or that disgusting booze smell the next morning, it's the refreshing fragrance. Packaging --------- The bottle is about the size of a can of beer(crude I know but a good analogy for blokes, I feel!). The dimensions are:- 5.6cm diameter 12.7cm height It is a circular prism with a stylish metallic colour. On the one side of the bottle is MEN written in a blue transparent glass, while in the same design on the reverse is 212. The bottle stores 100ml, but is very heavy for the job it does. The seal top is very simple to use with a magnetic soft core in the top and a magnetic top on the bottle. It sounds complicated but is actually very simple and effective with drippage if stored in a bag. The bottle has a push to spray mechanism which I find that, although the sprays are all the same size lacking in choice, it saves losing lots with the dab method. Prices ------ The fragrance is sold b
y Carolina Herrera, New York, who until recently were very unknown. However, thanks to the success of its feminine brands, is becoming more well known and there are now many stockists such as Boots and all parfumeries. You should expect to pay between £20 and £30 on the Internet or duty free stores, more on the High Street, perhaps £35 for the 100ml bottle. Notes ----- -This aftershave is extremely good to sway the ladies. If you are in a club or anywhere 'on the pull', or even to just surprise the missus, it will work wonders as the fragrance is strong enough to be smelt a while off but not overwhelming as to make somebody feel sick. -Due to the design and weight of the bottle, it is very difficult to decide how much of the bottle you have used. Due to the small weight of the fragrance in proportion to the weight of the bottle, it is too heavy to decide how much has gone. The transparent blue letter is just too opaque to see the fragrance line. Your best bet is to just shake it and listen. -The other products in this range, such as the Deodorant are much less effective than the aftershave. For the price you would have to pay, your better with your regular deodorant. I hope you get as much satisfaction and rewards as I have enjoyed from this product Happy Hunting Chris :-)
I first smelt this when my boyfriend had a new bottle for our holiday last year. Its absolutely gorgeous! (I know im a woman but I suppose my opinion counts as its us that have 2 smell it!) It came in nice packaging-a silver tin effect and in a nice set(around £35 for a set of fragrance, small shower gel and shampoo from Debenhams) The smell isnt heavy and musky, its refreshing and light. Having said this, it lasts all day! You dont need much of this fragrance...Ill call it perfume :op Its good for day and night wear, and you can smell it even when your dancing in a club-great if your on the pull! This really is a fragrance for most ages (My boyfriend has it and so does his Dad). Its quite sophisticated-it doesn’t smell cheap like lynx or anything. The fact that it lasts shows it is a good quality perfume. I dont think everyone will have heard of this perfume, I certainly hadn’t until my boyfriend wore it, but its definitely worth looking for and testing. Its a very original fragrance. I must confess I like this fragrance so much I sometimes wear it myself! I know it’s for men, but it reminds me of my boyfriend! I think most girls/women would like this fragrance, but too much can be a bit sickly. Remember-less is more and subtle is definitely sexy! Other products in the range include: 212 FOR MEN A/SHAVE 100ML - £20.00 212 FOR MEN EDT 100ML SPRAY - £35.00 212 FOR MEN EDT 50ML SPRAY - £25.00 212 FOR MEN DEODORANT STICK - £12.50 212 FOR MEN DEODORANT SPRAY - £14.50 These are online prices from (www.garden.co.uk)but you can probably find them priced differently elsewhere! As you can see-quite a good range. Value not bad as a little goes a long way, although Im not sure about £12.50 for a deodorant stick!?! This fragrance was the runner up in "The Basenotes Awards 2001" for best fragrance. Worth a "test" for sure, especially if y
ou’ve been stuck in a fragrance rut for years-maybe time for a change?? Available in larger Boots stores + Debenhams
The one in the brown box with yellow spots. I discovered this years ago and started wearing it myself (I'm female). I had women chasing me in the street asking me what perfume I was wearing! I'd be stood at the bar and hear girlies saying "Ooo someone smells gorgeous". I bought some for my fella but my better judgement told me not to give it to him after the response I had. It's a really fresh manly smell, not poncey and girly like some stuff men are wearing these days. Reasonably priced, packaging not very inspiring, fab smell.
Launched by Carolina Herrera in 1991, Herrera for Men is a sharp, masculine scent possesses a blend of fresh citrus, tobacco, musk and amber. It is recommended for casual wear.
