I'll admit, I'm not a regular perfume wearer. I just never seemed to get into the habit of putting it on every day that lots of women have. My new bottle of Cerruti 1881 Eau De Toilette was a present/hint from my mum, who thinks I should wear it more often. I'm trying not to take that personally, I don't think I stink!
This fragrance has only been around since 1995, which surprised me when I found out as I thought it was much older than that. A little googling tells me that its considered 'the youngest of the great classics' which seems fitting, this perfume is definitely of the timeless, classic variety rather than the fashionable fleeting kind.
The perfume is refreshingly light, it has a crisp fresh scent that makes you think of newly washed linen and fresh air in spring. Its not too sweet and not overpowering, but its strong enough that one spritz is plenty and lasts for hours. Cerruti 1881 is versatile, its light and casual enough that you can wear it day to day, but also 'special' enough to wear on an evening out, maybe with an extra spray to give it that little bit more impact.
Since I've started wearing Cerruti 1881, I've had a few friends comment on how nice it smells and ask what perfume I'm wearing. One friend has even decided to buy a bottle for herself. At £24.99 for 100ml from The Perfume Shop its pretty good value for money for such a versatile product, you'd definitely get your money's worth.
The bottle is a classic, uncomplicated design, a round frosted glass bottle with a peach/pink metallic lid. Its not as bold or as quirky as some more recent bottle designs, but the smaller 30ml bottle is really handy to pop in your handbag and doesn't take up too much room.
I got this perfume as a miniature in a miniatures gift set a few years ago, but have barely used it.
Cerruti 1881 was launched in 1995 and has become quite a classic.
~ Price and availability ~
You can buy this perfume from Superdrug, Boots and The Perfume Shop. It is currently selling on www.theperfumeshop.co.uk for £12.99 for the 30ml bottle (Recommended retail price £23.00) and £29.99 for 100ml (RRP £49.00).
~ Bottle ~
It comes in a rather unique round narrow bottle. The bottom two thirds of the bottle is frosted glass and the top third of the bottle is its rounded lid.
The glass on the front of the bottle has horizontal ridges across the middle of it.
The lid is made from plastic and it has a peachy pink marble effect. A silver metal band goes around the bottom of the lid, with the words 'Cerruti 1881' imprinted into it.
Although it is instantly recognisable and quite different to other perfume bottles out there, I don't think the bottle is anything special and there is no particular aspect of it that I really like - the shape, the marble effect lid and the ridged frosted glass don't really do much for me.
~ Scent ~
The scent is very unique, like no other perfume I have tried.
It combines top notes of bergamot, freesia, mimosa, violet and blond woods, heart notes of rosewood, chamomile, coriander, jasmine, geranium and orange blossom and base notes of sandalwood, amber and musk.
It is very floral, but there is a real sharpness within it, which does not completely dominate the scent, but it is quite strong and a little bit too harsh for me.
I do like the florals I can detect in this scent.
It is almost like the sharp scent that I detect (I'm not sure exactly what this scent is - it is harsher and heavier than geranium) is a completely separate layer within the fragrance and I can imagine the scent without this sharp note would be really nice. I feel that this harsh, sharpness ruins my experience of wearing this perfume. It is not a perfume I enjoy wearing.
I have found the scent lasts around 12 hours on my skin, which I think is quite impressive, but as I'm not a big fan of the scent this wasn't necessarily a good thing for me, in fact it took some scrubbing to get rid of the smell.
I'd say it is more of a daytime scent than one for nights out or special occasions.
I think it would be enjoyed by people who like harsher floral or spicy scents, but this is far too harsh for me.
~ Conclusion ~
I did want to like this perfume, but unfortunately I really don't like it.
There are florals within it I can detect that I really like, but the sharp, harsh note in it is also very present and I really don't like it.
The bottle is nothing special. I don't dislike it, but I don't like it either.
I would not buy this perfume and would not recommend it unless you think you would like it from my description.
My family and friends know me well and as a result I am always presented with an array of beautiful toiletries and perfumes at Christmas and birthdays. Last year I was fortunate to receive a number of fragrances; some of which I've previously used for a number of years. One of my gifts was a 30ml bottle of Cerruti 1881 and whilst I could recall using the fragrance many years ago my memory of its scent and whether I found it favourable were rather blurred.
I've always considered the packaging for this brand to be a little dated and despite the fact that the designer, namely Nino Cerruti launched this fragrance some 18 years ago I'm sure it looks the same now as it did back then. I cannot admit to being inspired by the packaging and at the risk of sounding ungrateful this is not something I would have purchased myself, particularly as it is an eau de toilette as opposed to a more concentrated eau de parfum.
The top notes which are very light are released in a fine mist and consist of violet, mimosa, freesia, bergamot and a note that I had never previously been aware of, namely blond woods. I adore the fragrance of freesia especially in its natural form where I can witness its delightful aroma whilst the beautiful brightly coloured flowers are growing in my garden. I found the aroma of violet extremely welcoming as whilst floral, it adds a hint of richness to the initial layer of fragrance. The top notes remain for approximately ten minutes before the ensemble of heart notes accompany them where I am immediately able to witness the uplifting and zesty aroma of orange flower together with geranium, rosewood, relaxing and calming chamomile, jasmine and coriander.
These notes work well together in providing an uplifting and refreshing aroma, which I would describe as summery yet very elegant. The remaining base notes consist of ambrette and the adorable aroma of sandalwood together with one of my favourite notes within a perfume, namely musk, which adds a hint of romance. The combination of notes creates a fairly delicate yet crisp aroma, which is suited to women of all ages and is appropriate for daytime use and during warm summer evenings.
Whilst I do not tend to opt for intense and heavy scents during the warmer weather I found the fragrance fairly light and unrecognisable after only a couple of hours. Understandably, this is an eau de toilette, so its longevity is considerably less than an eau de parfum, but I found the musk a little too delicate for my liking. In an attempt to prolong the lifetime of the fragrance on my skin I applied unscented baby lotion to my pulse points prior to application in the hope that the eau de toilette would cling on to my skin as opposed to being immediately absorbed. Whilst this tactic works with the majority of my other fragrances, which are eau de parfums, I did not achieve any results in the case of Cerruti 1881.
I cannot state that I dislike the fragrance, but it just wasn't strong enough for me, as I prefer something a little more intense. Consequently, I feel I can award only 3 stars. Cerruti 1881 Eau de Toilette is reasonably priced and generally retails at around £16.50 for a 30ml bottle. However, at the time of writing a 100ml bottle is available on Amazon for £29.49 plus £1.80 postage and packing.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
Having received a couple of bottles of perfume for Christmas, it got me interested in hunting around in the sales for any other ones that might be going at a reasonable price.
I had noticed this Cerruti 1881 for a couple of years now as the bottle is quite attractive, but always quite expensive to buy. Now was the time for me to purchase this as it was being sold half price for £17.50 for a 50ml bottle in my local Debenhams store.
I've since found out that this was in fact designed by Nina Cerruti in 1995, so it has been around a lot longer than I first thought. Coming in a peachey colour box with "1881" in large bold print on the front. I was keen to remove it from the box and see if it still looked as nice as I remembered.
Yes it was exactly as I remembered, coming in a flattish oval glass bottle. Engraved on the front of the glass is the 1881 logo, with a lovely bronze colour metal lid. Again with Cerruti 1881 engraved into the metal. The whole bottle looks a peachey/bronzey colour which is very attractive.
When spraying this on, you really only need a small spray as it is quite powerful, but not to overpowering. It also has good staying power and will remain on your skin all day. I can't really describe the smell, as this could be different on different people, but I can tell you what the notes consist of;
Top Notes; Mimose, Iris, Violet, Freesia
Heart Notes; Coriander, Tuberose, Chamomile, Galbanum
Base Notes; Sandalwood, Amber, Musk, Vanilla
Whenever I read these ingredients I always think I definitely will not like this, but once they are always put together the results are amazing. This is really a girly smell that I think is very attractive to men.
A very elegant bottle and perfume for elegant ladies eveywhere!
This has now become one of my very favourite scents standing joint place with Lady Million which I love.
5 Dooyoo stars for a beautiful perfume!
I got married recently, and had been looking around for a fragrance to wear on my big day. I wanted something that was a bit different to the fragrances I normally wear, that would last all day during our celebrations and that came in a bottle small enough to fit into my rather small-ish bridal handbag.
The scent that I finally decided on was one that I used to wear some years ago, but had got out of the habit of wearing - not through any 'fault' of the scent as such, my tastes just evolved slightly and I got into trying new things, I guess.
My decision made, I returned home with my purchase, packaged inside a pretty peach-coloured square box nestled the newest addition to my bridal attire - a circular shaped bottle of "Cerruti 1881" Femme Eau de Toilette.
The selection was surprisingly easy to make. It was whilst I was in my local Boots superstore, trying out this fragrance and sampling that one that my eye happened upon the peach coloured box of Cerruti. Recognising the packaging immediately, I gave the perfume a good spray over my wrist and was instantly reminded of the gorgeous scent that I used to wear regularly. Remembering also that the scent had very good 'staying power' (and given that this was one of the criteria that I was eager my 'Wedding scent' should fulfil), my mind was made up shortly after spraying the much-loved perfume over my skin, and with that I made my purchase.
I paid around £14 for the 30ml sized spray, but it is also available in a 100ml spray for around £30, which is obviously better value but the bigger sized spray would have been cumbersome to carry around with me on my wedding day. I do believe that it is worth shopping around for perfumes and fragrances online and in shops such as "The Perfume Shop", as their prices are usually cheaper. As I was short of time and eager to finish making any last-minute purchases that I had to make, I opted for the convenient choice of buying the perfume there and then, from my local Boots store.
The scent itself is fairly hard to describe, but the first word that comes to mind is feminine. The first whiff of the perfume is a very sweet scented fragrance overall, but not in any way sickly or overpowering. I also think that the sweet tone to the perfume does last for quite a while once it is sprayed on, but the sweetness subsides a little so that the underlying scents come through more easily.
The underlying scent is something that I find to be very floral and again feminine. Though I would not say that the floral fragrance is too much in the way that other floral fragrances can be, a trait which I find to be quite off-putting if I am being honest. I think that a lot of perfumes with a floral undertone to them seem to be aimed at the more 'mature' market and remind me of something that my grandmother (who is in her 80s) would wear. I do not find this to be an issue with the Cerruti fragrance though, and in fact find the opposite to be true as both the scent and the packaging are, in my opinion, aimed at a younger market.
The packaging is made up of a circular bottle as I mentioned earlier. The lid of the bottle is made of a sort of bronze-coloured plastic which is very shiny and so looks like it is made of metal. The bottom half of the circular bottle is a frosted glass in a peach colour, through which I can see the perfume liquid inside the bottle. Both of these half circle shapes fit together neatly to form a circular bottle which I think is quite unique in it's design and is certainly very attractive looking.
The full name of the product is "Cerruti pour Femme 1881 Eau de Toilette", the 'Pour Femme' of course relating to the fact the scent is a ladies one. There is a matching aftershave in the collection which - funnily enough - has the name 'Pour Homme'. There are several matching items to the Cerruti 1881 perfume, such as a matching shower gel. There is also a gift set containing both items which is worth bearing in mind with Christmas just around the corner. The gift set is currently available from www.boots.com for £22 which I think is really fantastic value.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Cerruti 1881 Eau de Toilette. I am so glad that I decided to go with this scent for my wedding day as it really made me feel very feminine and girly without being overpowering in any way. Oh and it is worth noting that at no point during the day did I need to reapply the fragrance as it could still be detected very easily throughout the day and into the evening celebrations.
I'll be hinting to Santa to please buy me more of this fragrance due to being so mad about it once again, I have seldom been wearing any alternative fragrances over the past month or so and so the bottle that I originally purchased is almost empty!
A full set of Dooyoo marks from me, and this really is one gorgeous scent that I would highly recommend for those of you looking for Christmas present ideas!
This is my mum's perfume and I always steal a few sprays when I go and visit the parents. I love this fragrance as it reminds me of spending time with my mum and doing fun things at home.
The bottle is very attractive, it is a round circular shape and is a nice peach colour. It is split in two by a silver motif which says Cerutti on it, the bottom half of the bottle is opaque glass showing the contents of the perfume bottle and the top half is a peach plastic lid. This can be removed to reveal the spray for the perfume dispenser.
The bottle my mum has is quite large- 100ml which retails at £47 in Boots but there is also a smaller bottle containing 30ml for £22. I imagine this is the top prices you'd pay for the perfume and imagine it could be purchased cheaper online or in those discount perfume shops.
Apparently, this perfume was created in 1995 and was made for women with a confident approach to individuality, freedom and self expression. Hmmm, I'd never thought of describing my mum this way before, I think she wears it because she likes the smell of it rather than the previous personality descriptions!
Something I do agree with (according to the Boots website) is that the fragrance is subtle and light and is supposed to capture the smell of clean air. I really like the scent, it is not too overpowering and is pleasant enough to wear every day and lasts very well. It is lovely and feminine yet not too flowery which is definitely a plus from me :-)
Cerruti 1881 Ladies aka Cerruti 1881 pour Femme is a perfume launched by Italian stylist Nino Cerruti, a French fashion house. 1881 after the name Cerruti was to denote when the grandfather of Nino Cerruti (the founder) founded a textile Mill in Italy. Cerruti 1881 Ladies was launched in 1995 (there is a men's one which was launched in 1990).
I have over the years received various perfume gift packs with small bottles of Cerruti 1881 in them and found the scent fairly pleasant. I decided this would be a nice addition to my perfume collection for general daytime/casual use.
I thought the miniature bottles that I had received were quite nicely designed, cute was the word I would have used and found the full size bottles to be of the same design, just bigger and another word to desribe the bottle would be feminine. The bottle is round in shape with a translucent peach colour for the main bottle and an opaque peach coloured plastic lid which has a metallic looking rim sporting the perfume name. The glass bottle iself also has 1881 across the front which gives the bottle yet more of a feminine feel I found.
This perfume is available in 30, 50 or 100ml sizes and is not a scent that will break the bank with prices for the 30ml starting at around £15 and the 100ml being available for as little as £25 if you shop around (prices correct at May 2010).
The top notes for this scent include a rather large mix of freesia, iris, mimosa, jasmine, lily of the valley, bergamot, rose and violet.
The mid (or heart) notes include jasmine, coriander, Brazilian rosewood, chamomile, geranium, narcissus, tuberose, galbanum and orange blossom.
Finally the base notes have woody undertones of sandalwood and cedar along with amber, vanilla and musk.
There's supposedly a linen smell about this scent. I'm not entirely sure what linen is supposed to smell like...
THE TASTE TEST (ERM SMELL TEST ACTUALLY) / MY OPINION
Cerruti's official website claims that this is a woody floral scent which is supposed to depict a free spirited confident woman who's seductive and promises to be sensual! I don't know about that, my husband found nothing sensual in this fragrance on me, in fact, he's asked me not to wear it anymore. It could be that it just doesn't suit me but I sense a rather unpleasant aroma around me within a couple of hours of wearing this. I would almost describe it as a sweaty smell which is quite strange for me as I shower at least once a day and I NEVER smell sweaty.
I can't understand what it is about the scent that reacts like this on me. I've asked other people if they can smell anything unpleasant (not directly asked if they can smell a sweaty smell) when I've worn this but no one seems to have noticed it (or if they have they're not admitting it). I can't even find out if it has this after-smell on anyone else as I don't actually know anyone else that wears this scent to ask.
I've tried the scent four or five times now and am sorry to say that although the initial scent of this is very pleasing on the nose for me which seems to linger for a fairly short period, maybe up to half an hour or so; I'm not at all keen on the smell it gives off after an hour or so. Once the scent has settled on my skin, it doesn't seem to like me. It's not staying in my collection that's for sure.
I'm no perfume expert but I get the feeling that there are possibly TOO many different ingredients which might have just confused what the overall scent is supposed to be.
Considering I paid less than £15 for a 30ml bottle of this, I don't feel too bad, it certainly didn't break the bank. I'm likely to give this away to someone else, firstly I'll probably try my mum and if it doesn't suit her, I'll ask her to pass it on to someone else who it might suit. It's a real shame as the initial scent when you first apply Cerruti 1881 is really very pleasant with the jasmine scent being quite noticeable.
Because of the unpleasant odour once the scent has settled; I'm not happy to give this perfume more than 2 out of 5 - the 2 stars are really for the initial pleasing scent that it gives off and the nice looking bottle. It may react differently and smell better on others but it definitely does not suit me.
I first bought a bottle of Cerutti 1881 whilst on holiday in Benidorm about 10 years ago and have to say I have always had a bottle on my dressing table since and will wear nothing else on a night out. I like a perfume that lasts all night without having to be re-applied and one that I can smell on myself without having to sniff my wrist and this one fits the bill. Its got a very fruity/floral smell and it smells like no other perfume I have tried before and I have recieved plenty of compliments about it. It won't break the bank either at around £20 for a 30ml bottle. The product is also in an easy to grasp & use bottle. You can buy gift sets containing shower gel & body lotion too. This can also be bought in larger 50ml & 100ml bottles and all of these can be found in all major pharmasists & department stores.
I have been wearing Cerruti 1881 for about 4 years now and cannot find any other fragrance that suits me as well. I have always had difficulty trying to find a perfume that wears well on me and this perfume fits the bill! I know of one woman at work and another friend of mine (all of us in different age categories) who say the same! It's a light, feminine fragrance that seems to get compliments from the guys too. I highly recommend it.
Cerruti: Cerruti 1881 pour Femme, Eau de Toilette
I am still reviewing my perfumes and forgot I had this one as not used it in a while. I have been through a few bottles of Cerruti perfume as I have loved the smell of it in the bottle and on. It has been a firm favourite with me for over 10 years or so and I think I first bought it form duty free on one of my trips to Greece. I remember it being relatively inexpensive too for a perfume.
**Who makes Cerruti 1881 perfume?**
Well I didn't realise this but my lovely Cerruti perfume is Italian in origin. Nino Cerruti started off in a family woollen business before producing clothing in the 1950s and ventured first into designer menswear. He moved into womesnwear and set up a boutique in Paris in 1967. The Cerruti Perfume for women was introduced in 1995 after it had been created for the men in 1990. Other perfumes for men and women created by Cerruti include Nino Cerruti, Cerruti Image, Cerruti 1881 Amber, and Cerruti 1881 Black for Men and Cerruti 1881 pour femme Blanc.
I have the 100ml bottle (not that expensive so can afford more than the 30ml!!) It is a glass circle shaped bottle and made of frosted glass. The glass takes up much of the bottle then has a silver rim with Cerruti 1881 engraved on the silver rim in large writing. On the glass bottle on one side it is patterned too. It has a peach lid with the silver rim that pops off. The perfume then has a silver lid and nozzle. It comes in a peach box too that is quite classic and simple.
**The blurb and the Ingredients**
Cerruti 1881 Pour Femme is a woody and floral fragrance. Apparently weaves the finest and most natural substances together. This creates a gentle and feminine fragrance. It is meant to have a fresh and airy aroma and is quite sweet and floral. Ingredients include linen flower is used in the top, middle and base notes to give a crisp and clean feeling. Key ingredients are Jasmine, Freesia and Sandalwood.
**Using it and my opinion**
The 100ml is a good size bottle and the oversized lid helps me not to lose it. It is perhaps too big a bottle for the handbag but I have owned a 20ml bottle which is a better size. When you take the lid off you can sniff the perfume to sense the smell of the scent. It instantly smells crisp and fresh and floral. It is sweet but not too much and has an airy feel to it. It sprays a good amount out of the nozzle and is best applied to arms and neck. I also use this over jumpers as I like the linen smell to it and it is quite a light perfume. Once on you can sense the woody aroma coming though which stops it form smelling so sweet. It is not a heavy perfume and great for day wear.
I would recommend this as a fresh floral day wear perfume with a hint of woodiness to it. It would appeal to most perfume users and is better as a summery or spring perfume. It is also inexpensive and the bottle looks nice too.
**Prices and sizes**
It can be purchased from Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser, The Perfume Shop and online stores. The bottles come in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml and you can get it in gift set boxes so look out for those as it could mean you get a free shower gel or hand cream. The prices are approximately £14-£21 for 30ml but you can get better deals on the bigger bottles.
What would i do if i ran out of my beloved Cerruti?? Well obviously i would just nip down to the shops and buy another bottle. But if supplies were ever to be stopped, i can say that beyond any doubt, there would be, a disturbance.
I 'discovered' Cerutti around 3 years ago and i've had a bottle proudly displayed in my cupboard ever since. ("How can you proudly display something in a cupboard??" I have a strange cupboard which allows things to be displayed - trust me!)
I'm quite specific in my desires for a perfume. I have different perfumes for different times of day and special occasions. Cerruti is the most classic of evening perfumes, it isn't musky and 'old lady-ish' (i.e. estee lauder perfumes) it is fresh, fruity, seductive, addictive, and is the liquid essence of elegance. (I very nearly seduce MYSELF with this perfume!)
There are a very select few perfumes i have whiffed in the past and fell in love with so whole-heartedly as i did with Cerruti.
Its hard to describe a perfume in written format, I have tried (and possibly failed - miserably) but this perfume can be likened to no other i have smelt before, it is unique and whoever put it together, i salute you on behalf of myself, my other half, and all of womankind.
You can buy cerruti in 30ml and 100ml
In thepefumeshop.com you will pay around £15 - £30
I got my 100ml for £18 in Debenhams on a Christmas sale!! (I didn't need any but i will eventually and i'm not missing out at that price!)
This has to be my most favourite perfume of all time and what's even better is it is reasonably priced (under £20 for 30ml and under £30 for 100ml if you shop around).
This is a pretty floral fragrance brought out by Cerruti in 1995 and I think I have been wearing it ever since. It is light and easy to wear both during the day and for nights out. Every time I wear it I get compliments and people are always surprised to find out it is one of the 'cheaper' perfumes. I suppose it wouldn't be for you if you prefer your perfumes with a hint of musk as this is definitely floral. A pretty peach bottle with atomiser, it would also be a perfect gift for someone as it is quite a 'middle of the road' fragrance. You can also buy matching shower gel and around Christmas they often have gift packs on sale with a combination of perfume and shower gel.
cerruit 1881 was first released in1995 and is by far my favourite perfume! Cerruti is a soft fragrance, which is very very femanine and smells of flowers. Every single time i wear cerruti 1881 some one will comment!!! It will either be- wow are you wearing cerruti- man that gets me hot under the collar!!! or what are you wearing, you smell amazing!!
Seriously everyone loves cerruti, i have never met any one who doesnt like it. It is a little pricey, but well worth it- a couple on sprays in the morning and it lasts all day!!
I well recommend getting the gift sets as i have had both the hand cream and also the shower gel. Both of which smell just as fantastic. The hand cream is not oily and leaves your skin feeling moist and smooth and the shower gel, has a huge lather and makes your smelly like roses after your shower!!
GET CERRUTI 1881
Cerruti 1881 is a fragrance which was first launched in 1995 by Nino Cerruti; as well as the perfume you can also purchase the bath and body products which help to layer and compliment the scent of the perfume. People who have dry skin and find that the perfume doesn't have particularly good staying power on them would benefit from using the complimentary shower gel and body lotion before applying the perfume as this would gave the scent a base to layer itself upon therefore increasing the longevity of the perfume fragrance. All peoples skin types are different and perfumes, body lotions, shower gels etc act differently on each individual because of the different oils in our skin.
As you can see from the picture at the top of this review Cerruti 1881 is supplied in a circular shaped glass bottle. The glass on the perfume bottle has a somewhat frosted appearance which blends in well with the lovely peach coloured lid of the bottle. I really like the design and appearance of the perfume bottle because it is feminine yet simplistic looking and I think that it looks nice sitting in the dressing table. The glass on the bottle is see through and you can clearly see the lovely rose coloured perfume inside the bottle which is useful as you can easily see how much of the perfume you are using at any one given time.
Cerruti 1881 is described as having ~
Top Notes of Bergamot, Freesia, Mimosa and Violet
The top notes are the first phase of the perfume; they are usually the most volatile and evaporate from the skin very quickly. The top notes are usually very light and refreshing and their scent usually lasts for anything between five seconds and ninety minutes.
Middle Notes of Blond Woods , Rosewood, Chamomile, Coriander and Jasmine
The middle notes of a scent are therapeutic and balancing oils, sometimes the middle notes are often referred to as the heart notes of a scent. The middle notes are not always evident and can take between thirty and sixty minutes to develop on your skin, and they last for anything between two to four hours
Base notes of Geranium, Orange Flower, Sandalwood, Ambrette and Musk
The base notes are the longest lasting notes in a fragrance, most perfumes use the same base notes. This is because they give the perfume more staying power and stop the top and middle notes from evaporating from your skin as quickly.
As soon as Cerruti 1881 is sprayed onto your skin it has quite a sharp sweet aroma which has an ever so slight floral kick to it. After about 2 minutes or so the fragrance settles down dramatically and changes into a very light airy and sweet fragrance. I was actually quite surprised by how quickly the fragrance settled down into a lighter airier aroma because of the sheer strength of the scent at first. I think that the light airy composition of this fragrance makes this scent the perfect one to wear for romantic nights out or in. You could also use the scent for a casual wear perfume however I do prefer to use this one as a special occasions perfume.
The sweet top note which you can smell as soon as the perfume is applied is that if Violets as they have a really sweet aroma which is really crisp and fresh. The violet top note is quite prominent and seems to stick out the most compared to the Bergamot and Mimosa which both seem to be in the background. The Violet and Freesia top notes compliment each other perfectly and stand out the most as they have crisper sweeter aromas. I think that the Bergamot and Mimosa notes which linger in the background seem to add a little depth to the scent giving it more of a richer aroma.
The top notes of Cerruti 1881 don't seem to last that long before they gradually blend in with the middles notes of the fragrance; on average I would say that the top notes only last for approximately three or four minutes or so before they are no longer identifiable. The freesia top note seems to linger for the longest compared to all of the other top notes in the fragrance composition.
The middle notes of Cerruti 1881 are completely different from the lighter sweeter top notes of the fragrance. The middle notes of the fragrance are more of a floral composition rather than a sweet airy composition like the top notes. Even although the middle notes of the fragrance are mainly all floral the scent isn't too flowery smelling as there is a slight sweet note which seems to break the floral composition up a little. I'm not particularly fond of heavy floral scents but the floral notes aren't heavy or overpowering like you may expect they have a sweet nature which gives the scent a lighter edge. The fragrance which is most evident in the middle phase of the perfume is that of the Rosewood and Jasmine as they both have a sweet smell rather than a flowery one like you may expect. The Rosewood and Jasmine blend in with one another perfectly creating a gorgeous sweet, refreshing scent which isn't at all too flora, overpowering nor cloying. Most of the time I hate any fragrances or beauty products which contain Jasmine in them as sometimes the Jasmine can be too overpowering and cloying, but in this instance the Jasmine is really sweet and not too cloying and powdery smelling. All of the middle notes combine well with one another and some of the notes are more identifiable and prominent than others are. The Coriander is one of the middle notes which is barely identifiable in the scent composition, which is a good thing in my opinion as I once bought a Moschino Perfume which had a coriander note in its composition and all you could smell was Coriander when you were wearing the perfume. I really hated the scent of the Moschino perfume as it did make me feel physically sick, I still feel sick whenever I think about that perfume. The floral Middle notes of Cerruti 181 last a very long length of time compared to the top notes of the perfume. On average I would say that the middle notes last on my kin for approximately 4 hours or so before they gradually fade away and are no longer identifiable.
Again after the middle notes have worn off the fragrance seems to smell totally different again. The fragrance changes from being floral to more of a sweet almost powdery musky scent; which is good for those whom aren't particularly fond of floral aromas. The base notes of the fragrance are mainly musky/sweet slightly woody tones. The musk base note is the most evident at this phase in the perfume because it has a sweet powdery aroma which is really feminine and sweet. The musk is complimented nicely with a subtle hint of Orange Flower which adds a little spiciness to the scent as well as some fruitiness. The Musk and the Orange Flower are complimented perfectly by the scent of Sandalwood and Ambrette which seem to add some richness, depth and woodiness to the base notes of the scent. On average the base notes of the perfume linger on my skin for approximately 4 hours or so before they totally fade away and can no longer be smelt and the perfume needs to be reapplied.
All perfumes smell slightly different on different people, and this is due to us having different oils in our skin. The staying power of a scent also differs from person to person because we have different types of skin oils too. I said in the review that this perfume lasts for about three or four hours on me, but it could last a longer or shorter amount of time on you.
People who have dry skin types will notice that perfumes don't last long on their skin. If you have dry skin and have this problem you should try layering the scent of a perfume by using the matching body lotion or shower gel before applying the perfume. By doing this you are layering the scent and applying a base for the perfume to layer itself upon, so you should notice that the fragrance will last a lot longer on your skin.
If you like the sound of this perfume then I advise that you go into your local perfume store and test it before you buy it. When testing the scent spray it onto your wrist and wear it for a few hours before you decide whether you like it or not, because the scent changes the longer you wear it due to the different notes which make up the fragrance.
When testing a perfume don't smell the scent on a perfume card because it might smell lovely on the card and when you buy it and wear it at home it might smell totally different and you might not like the scent you are wearing. I made this mistake a few times in the past and wasted £30 on a fragrance which I didn't wear again and put in the bin.
Cerruti 1881 has really good staying power considering it is an Eau De Toilette fragrance, normally Eau De Toilette fragrances are quite light and only last on my skin for a short amount of time. But with Cerruti 1881 the fragrance lingered on my skin for well over 8 hours or so, the scent from the perfume was really fresh and easily identifiable a few hours after I applied it. I find that if I use a few sprays of Cerruti 1881 in the morning before I go to work, I can still smell it on my skin hours afterwards when I return home at 5pm, which is really good considering I don't have to carry a bottle of perfume about with me when I am at work.
When I am using the perfume I find that three or four sprays at any one given time is more than enough; as if you use too much of this fragrance it has a somewhat cloying almost powdery aroma which is quite intoxicating and overpowering. Less is definitely more with this perfume as it can also smell sort of cheap if you are wearing too much of it.
~*~Price and Availability~*~
Cerruti 1881 is available to purchase from most larger department stores and perfume shops such as Boots and Debenhams, it is also available to purchase from some online retailers as well although the price you pay or the perfume will differ depending on where you choose to purchase it from. I find that you get a far better deal if you purchase online from a cosmetics website as their prices aren't as high compared to high street stores.
As well as the Cerruti 1881 perfume you can also purchase the complimentary fragranced bath and body products which layer the scent of the perfume. People whom find that the perfume doesn't last ling on their skin would benefit from using the body lotion and shower gel before applying the perfume as this acts as a base for the perfume to layer itself upon therefore increasing the longevity of the fragrance on your skin.
The prices for Cerruti 1881 Eau De Toilette are as follows ~
200ml Body Lotion £20
I think that Cerruti 1881 is a gorgeous fragrance which has great staying power and a gorgeous sexy scent. Personally I think this is a really fresh light and airy fragrance, which would suit females of any age as the scent is quite fresh and sophisticated and doesn't smell cheap and sweet; if you don't apply too much of it. I think that this scent is most probably best used as a evening wear fragrance; however you could use it as a casual wear scent as well if you wish because it does have great staying power.
If you like fragrances such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix Rouge, Red Jeans etc then you will like this fragrance as well as they are all quite similar.

I am a perfume lover and this is one that I have a long standing admiration for. I have been buying this for over ten years, I love it and always swear I wont buy another bottle as I want to try new ones all the time but once it is gone I miss having it to wear.
This is a soft sensual perfume, which is a grown up feminine floral, it has a very powdery scent and is sweet without being sickly.
This is probably not a perfume most teenagers would like.
It comes in an elegant round bottle and looks as good as it smells.
At £22 for 30ml it costs about the average for a good perfume.
This will last quite well but I find that I need to apply it about every six hours.
It is an ideal daytime perfume but isn't really up to nights out as it just isn't powerful enough. It is ideal for people that don't want their perfume to make them stand out too much.
Designed by Nino Cerruti in 1995 this feminine scent is a blend of blooming fresh cut flowers and linen with woody undertones.
