Advantages: Elegant

Disadvantages: Pricey

I was given some vouchers for House of Fraser a year or two ago and decided I would use them to get some new perfume as I had recently finished a couple of bottles. So I decided to look at what was 'hot' on the makeupalley site and coco mademoiselle was in the top five so I thought I would look into that. Turns out it is an incredibly popular fragrance. Apparently Chanel designed this perfume because they felt that people viewed their Coco perfume as being for a more mature market and they thought they were missing out on the younger section of society so they decided to use Coco as inspiration and redesign it with a fresh new take. There have been quite a few famous faces advertising this including Kate Moss (though I think that was probably back in 2001 when the fragrance was launched as I dont' remember it of late) and the campaign last year with the beautiful Keira Knightly where she was running around the streets in her red dress with the fabulous soundtrack by Joss Stone.

The bottle itself is one of those bottles I consider to be a dressing table bottle, that is, it looks very feminine and romantic. It's quite a simple design. The bottle is clear glass with the liquid inside being somewhere between pink and a peach. On the front are the words Coco Mademoiselle Chanel Paris. The lid is an unusual frosted white T-bar style. It's not my favourite perfume bottle by any means but I guess they are going for the simple yet classic look.

The top notes of this are sicilain orange and calabrian bergamot. The middle notes are morning rose and oriental jasmine. The base notes are indonesian patchouli, haitian vetiver, vanilla from Réunion and white musk. I find it very difficult to say much about the notes in a perfume as I can't generally say what particular note stands out, I only get a general sense of the overall scent but there's the information for those with skilled and experienced noses. I would classify this as a floral but it's not too overwhelming like many floral scents are, it's more delicate and elegant and a bit more discreet and it's quite a warm fragrance. I think the muted colour of the liquid in the bottle rather reflects the discreet scent. The lasting power is good and stays on your wrist for a few more hours than most I own. Bear in mind that this is with the eau de parfum, if you buy the eau de toilette it is less concentrated and thus doesn't last quite as long. I am in my twenties and think this is a suitable perfume for the twenties and upwards. I am not sure it would be right on a teen though as it's certainly not from the Britney Spears school of fragrance. Some people say that even this they think is too old-ladyish but each to their own. I think this scent is not so much of an everyday scent. I wouldn't wear it when I was off to Tesco in my trainers. I tend to use it more for evenings and special occasions.

The one down-side to this is of course, the price. You can get this in various forms: the EDT spray in various sizes, the EDT handbag spray, the EDP spray in various sizes and the old-fashioned parfum and you can get body lotions. The one I have is the 50ml EDP spray and costs £54. The prices are set by Chanel and are the same everywhere I went but you can try Ebay though I hear there are a lot of knock-offs floating around.

Summary: Lovely and delicate

I love Chanel - my fave is Allure Sensuelle, it's very provocative. Like me.
