Advantages: Feminine and sophisticated fragrance
Disadvantages: Expensive
Coco Mademoiselle is a perfume introduced by the French couture fashion house Chanel in 2001 and I have been wearing it virtually ever since! Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel got her nickname after singing in Parisian coffee shops apparently. The company have been producing perfumes such as the iconic Chanel No 5 since 1924. Coco Mademoiselle was marketed for the younger generation of Chanel fans, and has used the likes of Kate Moss and Keira Knightley as their 'spokesmodels' in their commercials and print advertisements. However I think this is an ageless fragrance and suitable for women of all ages. I associate the Chanel brand with luxury and sophistication and like to treat myself.
I have always been a fan of Chanel fragrances and having squirted myself with this one, I was instantly keen. I have to say that this is the only fragrance that I have repeatedly bought. Most times I buy and enjoy a fragrance but am keen to try different ones. My perfumes tend to last me well, as I am not a regular 'top-up' squirter. I spray in the morning before leaving home and again if I am going out in the evening, otherwise I don't tend to bother. For that reason I prefer the Eau de Parfum instead of Eau de Toilette as it then lasts me all day.
Like all Chanel fragrances the bottle is simple yet sophisticated. There are no curves and colours, just a clear, rectangular glass bottle with the name and brand in Chanel's distinctive, classic script. There is a rectangular frosted lid which you then pull off to reveal the spray. You can see the peachy coloured perfume through the glass. The bottle comes in 35ml, 50ml and 100ml.
My usual preferred fragrances are florals, but this one would probably be best described as Oriental. The top notes are orange, bergamot, mandarin and Tunisian Curacao. To my nose I do pick up a sweet, slightly citrusy scent, but the citrus is far from dominant. The sweetness isn't sickly so either.
The middle notes are when it smells more floral to me, and the first few hours after I squirt is when I receive the most compliments as to the fragrance I am wearing. I always receive more complements on this fragrance then any other I have worn. The middle notes contain morning rose, Italian jasmine, ylang-ylang and mimosa.
Base notes include Indonesian patchouli, Haitian vetiver, bourbon vanilla, white musk, opoponax and tonka bean. To be honest a lot of the above means nothing to me, but I can pick up a mucky vanilla scent.
I find that my morning wrist and neck squirt (one each) lasts me all day. After 8-9 hours I can still smell it on my wrist, although I am not sure how strong it would be to other people. Obviously the same fragrance smells different on different people, but I find this a a fresh, light and feminine fragrance. I describe it as light, not because it is not strong, but becasue the scent does not over power or feel heavy and cloying to my nostrils. Because it feels fresh, and slightly floral I think it is suitable for daytime wear, however it is not cheap, so often I just use this for special occasions and use other brands as an all day, every day scent.
I received mine as a gift, but as a guide the 50ml EDP is retailing in Boots at £60.
Summary: Another Chanel classic.
