The CHANEL No.5 Eau de Parfum is available from GBP 48.50. The Eau de Parfum is available in 35 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml sprays. The Eau de Parfum was created by perfumer Ernest Beaux and launched in 1921.
The Eau de Parfum is in a classic, square-shaped flacon with a glass cabochon. The product name is on the flacon. The flacon is a black and white packaging.
The Eau de Parfum is described as follows. "Floral-aldehydic, a bouquet of abstract flowers with an indefinable femininity. No.5 Eau de Parfum is not simply a different concentration, but an olfactory reinterpretation, which is faithful to the spirit and base notes of the original composition. "
The Eau de Parfum is a classic perfume with a gentle, flowery scent. A fruity flavour which reminds of citrus fruits can be perceived. Followed by the flowery flavour of lilies and violets. Oak moss, vanilla and musk can be perceived. The scent is very intensive initially and tends to calm down and becomes gentle.
The top note includes neroli, ylang-ylang, bergamot, amalfi lemon and aldehydes. The middle notes are iris, jasmine, orris root, rose and lily of the valley. The base notes consists of vetiver, musk, sandalwood, patchouli, oak moss, amber, vanille and civetta.
The Eau de Parfum is long-lasting.
I can recommend the CHANEL No.5 Eau de Parfum, as the perfume is long-lasting and not too intensive. The gently, flowery scent reminds of lilies, violets and oak moss.
Wow!!! I cаn't believe there аre women who аctuаllу hаte this frаgrаnce. This is а true clаssic with stауing power! How mаnу other perfumes hаve mаde it throughout the уeаrs like Chаnel 5? Not mаnу. There's а reаson for it. Аfter аll these уeаrs it is а universаl fаvorite. I stаrted weаring this аs а teenаger, mаnу moons аgo. It wаs given to me аs а gift from mу first true love's mom. She wore it аll the time. So I hаve been weаring this for the lаst 30 уeаrs. The ONLY scents I weаr аre Chаnel 5, White Linen, must de Cаrtier or Ceаsаrs. Becаuse Chаnel 5 is still а hot seller it doesn't smell old or outdаted in mу opinion. It's just pure clаss. I аlwауs receive compliments when I weаr this аnd I аm still surprised when people аsk me whаt it is so theу cаn buу some. I thought everуone knew this fаmous scent.
I love the perfume, the cologne, the bаth soаp аnd the lotion. I hаve them аll! I find it's long lаsting but never overpowering unless уou sprау hаlf the bottle on уourself.
To eаch her own I know, but this will forever be mу fаvorite scent аnd I will never get tired of it. Mу husbаnd аnd son love it аs well аnd аlwауs compliment me when I weаr it аround the house.
for the person who purchаsed it from а drug store...thаt sounds like а knockoff or fаke becаuse Chаnel does NOT sell their products to drug stores EVER.
I only bought Chanel No.5 eau de parfum last month. I already have the eau de toilette version, which I have had for about a year.
I wished that I'd gone for the eau de parfum version in the first place.
~ Chanel No5 ~
Chanel No5 was launched back in 1921. The nose behind the scent is Ernest Beau, who created two series of perfume samples numbered 1-5 and 20-24 and asked Coco Chanel to choose one of them. No5 was the one that she chose and it was released on the 5th day of the 5th month of 1921.
~ Price and availability ~
The 100ml eau de parfum costs £94.50 from Boots.
The 50ml eau de parfum costs £66.50 from Boots.
The 35ml eau de parfum costs £47.50 from Boots.
I bought mine from Boots and I would recommend buying from a reputable retailer and never to buy Chanel fragrances from ebay as they will nearly always be fakes.
Most department stores also stock this perfume.
~ Bottle ~
It comes in the stylish, classic bottle, which is so recognisable. I love it. It is rectangular and made from clear glass with a simple white square on the front with, 'No 5 Chanel Paris Eau de Parfum' in black raised lettering.
A large, angular glass lid fits onto the top to finish off the classic design.
The perfume itself is an orangey yellow colour.
~ Scent ~
I love Chanel No 5's scent. It is floral and smoky.
The top notes in this perfume are aldehydes, bergamot, lemon, neroli and ylang-ylang.
The heart notes are jasmine, rose, lily of the valley and iris.
The base notes are vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla, amber and patchouli.
Chanel No 5 was created with mind to compose a scent where none of the notes could be isolated so that it didn't smell like anything particular; it would just be a blend of lots of different notes to give a whole new scent.
When it is first sprayed it is quite strong, but it is inoffensive. The fragrance has a very pleasant floral, soft, powdery scent. It has a smokiness to it, which reminds me of incense. It also has a slight papery scent, which is clean and pleasant.
I can't really pick out any of the notes individually. It just smells like Chanel No 5! I am quite surprised that bergamot and lemon notes are in this fragrance as I cannot detect anything along those lines.
The fragrance is little bit sharp, but I think it is inoffensive. It has quite a soapy scent.
The eau de parfum is very long lasting. It lasts on my skin for more than 12 hours before wearing off, which is impressive.
I notice it on myself during the day and I think it has much better projection than the eau de toilette.
I think Chanel No 5 has quite a mature scent so it is probably best suited to more mature women, but I am in my twenties and also love it so I think it will appeal to a wide age range.
I think this perfume is suitable for both day time and night time wear.
I would recommend this fragrance. It is very distinctive and a real classic.
In the world of women's scents there are good perfumes, there are great perfumes and then, standing above them all, there is Chanel No 5. It easily overpowers all pretenders to the title of the world's favourite perfume; a bottle is sold every 30 seconds. Despite its immense popularity however it remains a classic scent, the perfect combination of seduction and class. It comes in a simple well designed bottle, almost identical to the one originally designed by Chanel herself. The clear glass allows you to see the perfume inside while the minimal, unfussy design makes it stand out from the many pretentious and over the top bottles of modern day perfumes. If you wish for a technical dissection of bass notes and the influence of jasmine and sandalwood then you should turn your attention to a different review, what I can say is that the perfume has an artificial floral scent that's strong and long-lasting without quite being overpowering. For many women I think it's an evening scent though I must admit I feel there are probably quite a few career women who douse themselves in it before heading off to do battle; it's that kind of perfume. Chanel originally created it to represent the new independent women appearing during the 20s, its artificial scent was supposed to set off a woman's natural beauty. Almost a hundred years after it first appeared, I know no woman who doesn't feel sexier, more confident when they put it on. It is admittedly, however, a very expensive perfume and you're paying for the history and the brand as much for the scent. It is also arguably not very unique. It's the little black dress of the perfume world; most women will own a bottle of some sort. It's a scent for the classics rather than the trendsetters. Still if there could only be one; it would have to be Chanel No 5.
For me Chanel no.5 is the most classic of all scents released for general sale in 1922 I think Chanel have more than proved that this perfume has staying power. Marilyn Monroe herself made the perfume famous by the teasing reply she gave when asked what she wears in bed "No.5" was her answer.
The bottle is simple, elegant and classic . It is square with just a simple rectangle 'stopper' style lid. It doesn't need to be elaborate in any way because the scent does all the talking. It has base notes of sandalwood, middle notes of jasmine and mayrose with top note of ylang-ylang and neroli. It is floral but not in the traditional sense. However for me it is deep and makes a statement wherever you go!
If you are going to spend a good amount of money on a perfume like Chanel no.5 then try and buy the eau de parfum. Out of all of my perfumes it has the best staying power, and whilst the scent does eventually fade a little, it really does last for hours. Of course everyone's body is different and perfumes can smell different on different skins, so it's worth testing this at a perfume counter first to see if it's a scent that you can get on with.
The price of this is pretty steep, for eau de parfum you can expect to pay around £80+ this is seriously an investment perfume.! However if there was ever a perfume worth spending money on for a special treat then this is it. It is available at most higher end department stores who generally have a counter in fragrance and cosmetics departments.
If could take only one perfume to a desert island, this would be it. It's my 'go to' scent, and my 'I can do anything whilst wearing this' perfume! Its a really feminine scent and the sort that leaves a pleasant trail of scent whenever you pass by someone. The sort that makes people notice.
I just couldn`t write that many reviews about perfumes without writing one about perhaps the most legendary, classic, amazingly sensual and tempting perfumes in history, the Chanel no 5. This historic perfume has been on the market since 1920, and legendary women such as Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly all expressed that this was their favorite perfume, Marilyn Monroe going to bed with nothing but Chanel no 5. Oh well, I also love this perfume, but my not movie star budget won`t allow me to use it too often, mostly on very special occasions...
There`s no denying it; this is a very expensive perfume! However, you don`t need more than one or two sprays applied onto your neck, and it will last for an entire day or evening! I purchased a 100 ml bottle for the whopping price of 129.99, but then again, I have had this bottle for centuries now, perhaps it will outlive me... So it`s expensive, but this is after all Chanel no 5!
This is without question a fragrance that makes you feel like a woman, a sensual, sexy, classy and elegant woman, all wrapped into one! I can`t explain why, but I always experience a confidence boost when I wear this, and I just feel more appealing, not just to men, but in general! This is a very clasy, sensual and lovely perfume, and it`s difficult to take it apart and describe everything it smells of! I do think it`s a favorite amongst women of all ages, but for some reason, I cannot picture a fourteen year old girl wearing this, as it`s in my opinion a perfume for women 20 years and up all the way to 99... I also have to mention the legendary look and design of the bottle, a pure classic, almost a piece of art to have standing on your bath room counter, this perfume will surely be an envy to all of your girlfriends, and if you`re going on a first date, or perhaps a fifth date, this pefume will get you a husband...
A legendary, sensual, classic perfume all women ought to own!
I purchased this perfume back in January 2010- and it is still going!
A gorgeous smelling perfume which lasts all day, this item is a real winner!
I find I only have to use two squirts of this perfume; any more and it can be a little over- powerful. As you have to use so little, it lasts a long time.
The price is very reasonable for how long it lasts; shop around though as I found a great variation in price. I paid approximately £40.00.
I think this perfume appeals to all ages; I am twenty five years old and I love it, as does my seventy eight year old grandmother!
The packaging is very classy and chic. In a toughened glass bottle, very simple lettering and very plain decoration, it doesn't look too overdone and looks nice on you vanity unit!
I have recommended this perfume to friends, who have bought the item themselves and love it!
Chanel N05 is one of life's little luxuries. It is not only a very subtle smell it is also a statement. I genuinely feel very special when I wear my No5. It has been my signature perfume since my early twenty's. Now 20 years on I dont feel that I have outgrown it, infact I wouldnt want to wear anything else. I would also recommend buyin the eau de parfum. Yes it is more expensive but in the long run it lasts. Even wearing a small amount lasts without being overpowering or sickly. I also think that it is a superb perfume to take from day into evening. Chanel is one of those perfumes that will never date or go out of fashion, as it has already stood the test of time. It is classy and wonderfull to wear, infact I'm sure that it was the only thing that Marlyn Monroe wore to bed!! Enjoy - to be worn on a daily basis. Be carefull not to keep in direct sunlight even thought he bottle is so perfect as it will go cloudy. Best to be kept in a dark space - that way it lasts longer.
I love this. Instantly recognisable. I remember this mysterious perfume being mentioned in a love poem in an anthology at school. I figured it must smell good if it makes you fall in love. A magical aroma. Some people may rubbish it as just being old-fashioned but not me. The fragrance is positively dreamy. Sensual and sophisticated. I feel enveloped in an aura of vintage Hollywood glamour. I feel confident that however, hectic my day my scent will remain amazing. Like Marilyn Monroe I would feel naked without it. It's not cheap but I know I'll empty the bottle. And the parfum goes a lot further than the eau de toilette. The stylish glass bottle looks great on a dressing table but isn't ideal for carting about in a handbag. However, the scent improves as the day goes on. It's like the layers of the scent peel away to reveal something more beautiful and blended with your own skin - a striptease of the scent so as to speak.
Chanel N°5, Eau de Parfum remains one of the classic and traditional perfumes which has graced my dressing table (and my body!) since I was about 18 years old. I think it was the first "grown up" perfume I ever bought - and I've never grown out of it at the ripe old age of 38.
Chanel N°5, Eau de Parfum comes in a classy glass square bottle which is transparent so you are able to see the rich golden tones of the perfume that are in the bottle. In the centre is the simple Chanel No. 5 logo and then a equally simple glass lid which tops the bottle. I think this is definitely a situation where less is more in terms of design. Although I am a sucker for perfume bottles which are elaborate and different, the Chanel No. 5 design proves that there is a place for understated elegance as well. I think perfume of this standard and class really doesn't need any gimmicks.
I prefer the spray version of this perfume because a little can be dispersed over a wide area - and so it seems to last a little longer (and it's also cheaper!). A 100ml bottle cost me £81.00 recently from Amazon.co.uk - but I have managed to find it for £77 previously - and so if you're on the lookout you can sometimes get it for cheaper. There is no getting away from the fact that it IS expensive - but having said that, a 100 ml bottle will last me about a year - and I use it frequently. I really am willing to pay the extra for such great quality and such a unique fragrance.
The fragrance itself is hard to describe as it is such a unique fragrance. It is a very strong fragrance....some may say overpowering.....but I prefer to describe it as distinctive and present. It is unmistakingly citrousy and musky - resulting in a rich, exotic and spicy aroma. It is not the type of perfume that I would wear in the day or for a casual meet up with friends, but if I am going out in the evening or attending a special occasion, like a wedding, then it's perfect. It is sensual and seductive - and makes me feel sensual and seductive!
The staying power of this perfume is also fantastic. If I spray it on in the early evening, it will not need to be refreshed for the rest of the night. I will admit that when I first spray it on it does smell very strong, but within ten minutes or so, the fragrance tends to calm down and melds in with the rest of me (in a good way).
Overall, I love this perfume and really can't praise it highly enough!
If I had to sum up "Channel no. 5" in five words they would be, Sexy, Seductive, Irresistible, Classy and Divine.
Channel No. 5 Eau de Parfum
It was 1920 when this perfume was introduced, it is the worlds best selling women's perfume, with the delectable blended classic fragrances of ylang-ylang, amber, iris, patchouli, neroli, grasse jasmine, may rose, sandalwood and vanilla. It is a gentle, refined, floral fragrance. Recommended for evening wear. Thought of as quite an expensive fragrance, but worth every penny. This perfume is very popular, it also triggered the designer industry of today. Many famous faces have been seen advertising this ever popular perfume, from Marilyn Monroe to Nicole Kidman.
Channel no. 5 perfume comes in a flat, square shaped glass bottle, which is transparent so you can see the perfume inside, the lid on my perfume is a glass stopper, but it does also come in a the spray variety.
It costs from £85.00 for a 100 ml spray bottle and from around £130.00 for 100 ml in a bottle with a stopper. Prices shown are available on Amazon at present. I guess the price varies so much because with a spray most of it goes everywhere, but if you dab your perfume, it's not going to be wasted and will last you a lot longer. It is available in smaller sizes which of course brings the price down somewhat. My husband paid around £40.00 for a tiny 7.5 ml bottle, just to make sure I had some.
My opinion and experience
I have worn this perfume for as long as I can remember, I don't know why I started to use it, I guess I must have smelt it somewhere and decided I had to have some for myself. Over the years I have become addicted to it and constantly have to make sure I always have some. My daughter says whenever she smells it, where ever she is, she thinks of me, she says, I am Channel no. 5.
I don't wear this fragrance all the time as it is far to over powering for everyday use, not to mention far to expensive. However the scent on your skin just lasts and lasts, for me it seems to get stronger, being more noticeable as the night wears on. I think the idea of watering down this wonderful fragrance to produce an Eau de toilette spray is a big mistake, this perfume should be used and worn as intended, maybe costs a bit more, but if you want Channel no. 5 then that's what you should get, not some cheap diluted version, it's just a waste of a decent perfume.
Since I started wearing this perfume, I have noticed that in the past it has had a sort of "Lynx body spray" effect as regards attracting attention from the opposite sex. So in my opinion, this perfume can work as a sort of lure, It definitely worked on my husband, with both of us liking the fragrance so much, it works really well for me I can use this perfume to lure him in, any time I like, it never fails, it is all I need to wear, to guarantee a really good night. My latest bottle of Channel no. 5 was given to me by my husband, he also likes to make sure I always have a bottle.
Maybe some will disagree with me and that's fine, but as this is my opinion, I've told it my way. Perfume smells different on everyone and each and every woman will know their favorite fragrance and will most probably feel just as passionate about their own perfume.
My five little words explained
Sexy: It just makes me feel that way.
Seductive: Gives me the power to seduce and to be seduced.
Irresistible: Is how my husband makes me feel when I wear it.
Classy: It's really in a class of it's own.
Divine: To me, the scent is nothing but.
Although there are many perfumes I like, nothing has ever come close to Channel No. 5, and for me personally, my five little words sum this delightful perfume up, that's the reason I'm giving Channel No. 5 five stars.
Thank you for reading my review which is also posted on Ciao
I was bought this as a present by my now husband when we had only been dating a few months. It wasn't something I had asked for or wanted before but was excited about trying it.
Chanel is probably the best know perfume brand in the world and Chanel no.5 its most popular fragrance to date. Im not sure when it was 1st launched but Chanel no. 5 has been going decades now and still seems as popular even though there is so much choice in the shops nowadays.
When I recieved this gift I was surprised at how large it was. I also thought that the plastic casing looked a little cheap. There is also a very large chanel sign on the top.
The scent is quite musky but floral at the same time. It is extremely strong so you only need the smallest of squirts. Even a small amount, I feel, can be overpowering at times. I think this is more an evening special occasion fragrance rather than an everyday one as the scent is quite distinctive and grown up. Because of this I also think it is more an older persons scent.
At around £50 this perfume is at the top end of the market and I personally think there are much nicer perfumes out there. Whether this is because Im quite young or are just not keen on the scent Im not sure.
Overall I wont be purchasing again and before buying for someone else I would check that it is the type of scent that is appealing to them. It certainly isn't for everyone.
Chanel No5 Eau De Parfum
My husband first bought me this perfume 10 years ago as a gift for our first wedding anniversary and he has been buying it for me on every wedding anniversary since!
The perfume comes sealed in a white box with the chanel logo on the box and the name of the perfume and where it is made - France. It is probably one of their best exports!
The perfume bottle is made of heavy weight clear glass and the perfume bottle fits the box perfectly. The box has extra padding inside with thick reinforced cardboard on all 4 sides of the box. The perfume bottle comes out of the box in absolutely perfect condition.
The glass bottle is completely clear except from a white label in the centre of the front of the bottle. The label says No5, Chanel and then Paris, the label also states if you have the eau de toilette or the eau de parfum version of the fragrance.
When you open the bottle it has a spray at the top of the bottle to disperse the perfume. The perfume has a heavy smell when first sprayed and the strongest smell is sandalwood which smells very musk like. When you first apply the perfume is smells very strong and sultry, the smell is longlasting and powerful.
This perfume is one of the best known perfumes in the world, it is both famous and timeless. Chanel is a designer brand and this perfume is a designer price at £50 for 30mls. I have never ever seen this perfume on special offer!!!
This is my perfume for nights out, holidays and really any special occassion, it has a feel good factor when you apply it and as I said before the scent hangs around for ages.
This perfume has lots of expensive ingredients and that along with the designer label is probably why it has kept so expensive. Also if they make it too cheap then everyone will have it and it will loose it's timelessness and class!!!!
This perfume has top notes of ylang - ylang and neroli. The neroli comes from the bitter orange flower but there is really no hint of oranges or citrus in this perfume, it is a musky floral feast.
This perfume has middle notes of jasmine and may rose, I can definitely smell jasmine in this perfume and this contributes to it's heavy floral scent.
Lastly this perfume has bottom notes of sandalwood, vetiver and vanilla. The sandalwood is what gives this perfume it musky scent.
All in all a lovely fragrance, and I agree that is a timeless classic. If I was paying for this perfume myself myself I might have to start applying a little less each time I use it!!!
I give this fragrance 4 Dooyoo stars, not 5 because it is very expensive and not within a lot of people's budgets.
A lovely perfume without a doubt.
Gabrielle Chanel was a captivating and determined woman, her career in the fashion industry had many hiccups along the way but sheer strength of character meant that her name is as popular today as it was way back when she began her career as a milliner in the early 1900's.
Gabrielle - or Coco as she was more commonly known believed that women should be comfortable as well as stylish and many of her designs met with fierce disapproval from her rivals.
Coco was the clever woman who introduced the `Little black dress` and even all these years on that LBD is still a best seller though it may come in many different shapes and styles to accommodate different era's.
You would think that Coco herself would have been a walking advertisement for her designs but she loved dressing like a `tomboy` and this led her to relax her designs even more and she created clothing that was very casual and laid back that eventually became accepted among her wealthy client list.
In May 1921 a perfumier called Ernest Beaux visited Coco to introduce her to some new fragrances that he had created. Coco smelled them all in turn and then turned to Beaux and said `No 5 ` from that day on Chanel No 5 was born.
Coco Chanel loved simple clean cut lines so the perfume is presented in a square clear glass bottle with a chic black cap and the words Chanel No 5 are there in bold black writing.
Chanel No 5 is probably one of the worlds most famous perfumes and has always been considered the ultimate gift for a woman.
Now nearly ninety years on Chanel No 5 still has it's rightful place on the shelf and it is still a very popular gift.
If you stop to consider the fact that nigh on six hundred new perfumes are introduced in any one year then to maintain popularity for ninety years is quite some achievement.
Coco Chanel knew exactly what she wanted from Ernest Beaux, that bottle had to contain class and sophistication and above all it had to `smell of woman`. Coco wanted the perfume to have magnetic qualities and that was made possible by using `aldehyde's`, these are man made floral smells as opposed to using the real thing.
Chanel No 5 is classed as evening wear and my bottle only comes out for very special occasions.
The bottle has a glass stopper and one tilt of the bottle covers the tip of the glass stopper, this gives you enough fragrance to last for hours.
Every perfume comprises of `notes`, there are top, middle and bottom notes. Each perfume has a unique `recipe` that allows some notes to burst into the forefront way before others.
Chanel No 5 has the synthetic florals in the top notes and once the stopper is removed then they are the first to surface, the top notes also include Neroli oil which comes from the bloom of the Bitter Orange tree and Ylang-Ylang which is an oil derived from a tree blossom. This oil is used in countless perfumes, it adds sharpness to the top note and you can still manage to pick the fragrance of Ylang-Ylang up way down into the base notes.
Jasmine oil is one of the middle notes and as most of us know Jasmine has a strikingly sweet and intense smell that lingers. The other middle note is Mayrose which tends to be far lighter but still a fairly sweet floral.
The base notes are sandalwood and vetiver. The musky sandalwood is content to linger in the background and play second fiddle to the much stronger florals and the vetiver ( which is derived from an Indian grass ) has a light earthy and almost smoky touch to it.
When you unravel the perfume it does seem rather complex but the combination of oils both synthetic and fresh do work well together.
I have heard many people speak highly of Chanel No 5 and then on the other hand I have heard many who find it far too sweet and cloying. Only recently a friend said to me that the fragrance reminded her of a bygone era.
Once you have opened that bottle and put some of the No 5 onto your skin then you cannot get away from it, the fragrance is sweet, rich and all enveloping and it will linger for hours.
Coco Chanel wanted to make her mark when she launched No 5 all those years ago and the unforgettable fragrance will never let you forget her.
From my point of view it is another of those perfumes that are especially designed for the mature woman ( or mistress!) a fragrance that exudes sex appeal and one that you cannot walk away from.
Chanel is probably the most famous ladies perfume in the world. Created in 1921, Chanel is a stylish and timeless classic.
