Advantages: 88 years of popularity

Disadvantages: Nicole Kidman's crazy ad campaign-We won't mention that. Also, very expensive

I've chosen to review Chanel No5 Eau de Parfum as it happens to be my favourite fragrance of all time, a lifelong love of mine.

I currently have two bottles of this upstairs in the cabinet as I write this: I have my new one, which looks like the photo above, which is a sleek, chic black and gold case, concealing a nifty portable spray bottle . Excellent for the handbag or suitcase. But really not very character-ful (is that a word?)

Secondly, I have my old-style glass art-deco style design classic, containing the same Chanel No5 but with a dinky old-school glass dabber (assuming dabber is the correct term). This is useless for taking anywhere, only good for standing in the cabinet or on the dressing table.

Actually, it always makes me feel that I should have a dressing-table, which I don't - it would be a 1950's style kidney-shaped number, with a glass top over the frilled tablecloth. I would be some 1950's starlet, or maybe one of the women in the TV series 'Mad Men'. So, the original style bottle is a big part of the Chanel No5 charm for me personally...

Anyway, they are just some of the images that are conjured up for me by this perfume: You will , of course, have your own fantasies :)

But enough of the packaging. What about the scent inside? Of course every perfume smells different on each individual, according to their body chemistry, but whenever I have worn this, I have had comments about how lovely I smell. Which in turn makes me feel good. Job done!

It's a traditional floral type, which means it's .... well, floral obviously. It's also light and pretty, and due to the quality, it's very long-lasting.

I love the aroma even before I put it on: just sniffing the bottle is divine, and putting some on can lift the most miserable day. You know the days when you feel about 103 years old and look like you live under a bridge somewhere? (or maybe that's just me) This is the instant antidote.

I would have loved to have given my all-time favourite perfume 5 stars, but I have restricted it to 4 due to the expensive price tag. Oh well, nothing's perfect :)

Summary: Simply a gorgeous perfume for all ages
