Chanel N°19 Eau de Parfum
by aclevername
I managed to save up enough Boots advantage card points to treat myself to a bottle of Chanel No.19 last month!
I bought the 100ml bottle. It usually costs £92.00, but there was a 10% offer on all fragrances so I paid £82.80 (or spent 8280 advantage card points I should say - they took a long time to save up).
The ... perfume is called No 19 after Coco Chanel's birthday (which was 19th August). The fragrance was first released in 1970, a year before she died at the age of 87.
~ Bottle ~
The bottle is not as pictured. It is a rectangular shape with a white square label on the front with "No 19 Chanel Paris Eau de Parfum" written in black lettering.
Looking through the back of the bottle you can see the words "Chanel New York, NY" on the back of the white square label in dull greyish looking letters. This is to make it more difficult to create counterfeits of the fragrance.
An angular clear glass stopper forms the lid of the bottle.
There is a ring around the bottles cylindrical neck with two silver stripes going right around the neck, with a thicker white stripe in the middle with a tiny Chanel logo (two letter 'C's one facing left and one facing right) on the front.
I love the design of the bottle and I love the lid as well.
I don't like the fact that the back of the label has writing on the back, as although it is supposed to be discreet, it is easy to see it through the label when the bottle is held to the light.
The perfume itself is a light green colour.
~ Scent ~
The perfume is strong, floral and powdery.
The top notes are green notes and bergamot.
The heart notes are rose and iris.
The base notes are vetiver, oakmoss and leather.
The scent opens to be quite strong and harsh, which I think is the leather note, but it is met by green notes along with rose and iris, which make the scent softer and less harsh.
I love rose and I love iris. I can detect them both in this fragrance, but the iris is definitely more dominant. It has quite an earthy scent
The oakmoss and leather notes give the perfume a harsher woody element, but I have found that as this perfume dries down the harsher oakmoss and leather notes give way to the soft powdery florals and after a few hours the harsher notes are no longer detectable.
I love this perfume. It is feminine, elegant, mature and simple. It smells expensive.
I tend to wear this as a day time scent.
It is quite a mature scent, which I think would suit older and younger women alike, but I think it is probably aimed towards more mature women.
It is very long lasting on your skin and is still detectable 12 hours after application. I have been very impressed with the longevity of this perfume.
I would definitely recommend this perfume, but it is probably best to try before you buy as it is expensive. Read the complete review |

Chanel Coco Noir Eau de Parfum

It is not often that Chanel get it wrong but they did with this fragrance as it has a woody flat smell to it which is very expensive and not great in my opinion. It starts off well and I liked the initial zesty feel to it but as it matures it starts to lose its appeal. This was a gift however at £89 for a 50ml bottle it was an expensive ... gift that fell flat even if the intent was a good one as I am a fan of Chanel fragrances and for me this one is the exception to the rule.
The bottle is a very chunky coal black colour which I think is quite stylish looking, it is a substantial bottle with solid lines and a traditional Chanel design to it. The key notes in this fragrance are;
Top Notes Lemon and Bergamot
Heart Notes Narcissus, Rose, Jasmine and Geranium
Base Notes Tonka Beans, sandalwood, vanilla, olibanum and patchouli.
As I said before I like the zesty citrus smell that is initially released upon application however as this begins to mature it moves from a fruity aroma to a more floral one however the fragrance here lacks any sort of depth for me, you can certainly detect the jasmine in the fragrance however it lacks any real power and seems to be rather weak and slightly insipid. After a while the more musky woodiness of the sandalwood begins to emerge and for me this again seems to lack real body and is a bit light weight.
This fragrance is a bit of a disappointment for me, given the price I would expect something a little more refined and with more strangth, it is like this has been designed to act as a back ground fragrance, something that the wearer can detect but is very subtle and understated, the problem here is that there is not enough fragrance and what I can detect is rather woody and a little weak for my liking. Maybe it just does not combine well with my skin as not all fragrances are suitable for every skin type however I cannot remember having such problems with any other Chanel fragrances. The staying power is not great, maybe 6 hours at the most, not that I was in a rush to top it off.
This is not one I would recommend especially given the price. Read the complete review |

Chanel Coco Noir Eau de Parfum
by walsha11
This perfume comes in a beautiful chunky rectangular bottle which made from a dark black glass. It has a traditional square stopper like you might find from Chanel no.5. This very dark bottle makes me think of the glamour of the 1930s because the lines feel very art deco to me, as does the choice of colours. It has a real elegance and ... mystery about it and this makes it one very intriguing perfume.
The fragrance itself is even more an enigma. It starts off with some lovely fresh citrus notes, made up of bergamot and lemon. This is undercut by a soft sweetness which reminds me of vanilla and also a warming floral note. This combination of scents is really quite lovely and very light and fresh which is fantastic because that's exactly what I look for in a perfume. That said, the initial scent is not exactly what I would conjure up when someone says the name 'noir' to me as it feels like a lovely soft daytime scent.
This quickly mellows though into a very sweet and sticky fruit fragrance. The initial citrus flavours are tempered by geranium, narcissus, rose and jasmine which make up the heart notes. These soft fruity and floral fragrances make up an altogether more rich, sensual and expensive smell which forms the centre of this perfume. It is instantly recognisable as Chanel and has a real sense of elegance to it.
The base notes which are left when the heart notes begin to dissipate are tonka bean, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla and olibanum. This is an interesting mixture and gives the perfume a realy sense of mystery and darkness. It feels much more earthy and deep and the scents are really quite rich. This finishes off this perfume and really lives up to the name of this scent, giving it a darker edge that you almost don't come to expect after the initial notes.
I have to say that this isn't my style of perfume as I far prefer very powdery, floral scents which have a real sense of timeless elegance and femininity. This perfume is elegant but it has a real sensual and dark edge to it which gives it a very unique smell. It is perfect for night time and is definitely one of those fragrances that will make you feel very sexy but I don't find I want to wear it all the time.
This perfume is pretty expensive, as are the majority of Chanel scents, and you'll probably find yourself paying upward of £60 for a bottle. I definitely wouldn't just splash out on it because the scent is pretty unusual. I would say, however, that it might be worth getting yourself a sample and testing it out to see if it is something you'd want to wear regularly as mine doesn't get all that much use.
Overall, a stunning perfume but a little too dark for me. Read the complete review |
