Chanel Chance Eau de Parfum
by angelboouk
Chanel is a French premium fashion and beauty house.
~Chance - The Essential Information~
Chance is a popular fragrance collection offered by Chanel. This collection contains no less than 9 products including pure parfum, shower gel and even deodorant. Today I will be discussing the Eau de Parfum.
Chance ... was released in 2003 and falls into the floral fragrance category. It is described as 'the most unexpected fragrance by Chanel'. Alternative variations of this fragrance are available including Chance Eau Fraiche and Chance Eau Tendre as well as a lighter eau de toilette.
Chance is made up of three sets of fragrance notes :
*Top notes offer the initial fragrance - lemon, pineapple and pink pepper
*Heart notes create the main body of the fragrance - iris, jasmine and hyacinth
*Base notes form together to complete the fragrance - patchouli, white musk, vetiver and amber. Vanilla absolute is also said to make an appearance.
'Unexpected, sparkling and romantic'.
~Design~
Chanel like to keep their bottle designs simple yet classy and the design for the Chance bottle is no exception. It is perhaps a little more simple than the likes of Coco Mademoiselle and Coco Chanel but is still every bit as beautiful in my opinion. The outer packaging consists of a pretty pink box. Opening this box reveals a fairly heavy, faceted round bottle which is crystal clear allowing the golden tinted liquid to be visible. The design is completed by a chunky silver lid and 'Chance Chanel' imprinted on the front.
~Where To Buy~
Chance remains popular on the high street and from online stockists. The prices do not vary much across department stores such as Boots, Debenhams and House of Fraser. Online stockists such as Amazon and The Perfume Shop may offer a small discount but expect to pay the following prices for the EDP.
*35ml - £45.00
*50ml - £62.00
*100ml - £88.00
As you can see, this is a high priced fragrance. The matching body products are also very expensive.
~My Thoughts~
I am an avid Chanel fan but do not get to treat myself to their products often. I have just finished my bottle of Chanel EDP which I received as a gift (I think it was Christmas 2010 I received it). I normally go through perfume like water but when it comes to the more expensive fragrances, I tend to use them sparingly. I am hoping that I will be able to buy a new bottle soon but my heart is set on another Chanel fragrance this Christmas so I cannot be too greedy!
My experiences of Chanel fragrances are mixed. I am not overly keen on Coco Chanel or Chanel No5 but I absolutely adore Coco Mademoiselle. Cha-nce is my second favourite Chanel fragrance and one which I consider to be a special day time fragrance due to how bright it is. Chance has a beautiful strength which can be witnessed by spraying just a small amount on my neck and wrists.
Chance opens with a very natural combination of fragrance notes which give the scent a vibrant and engaging feel - perfect for Summer time wear as it is bright but not overpowering or cloying - it is very clean smelling. The lemon and pineapple have been blended well to form a citrussy sweet and very refreshing, layered cocktail scent. The pink pepper adds warm and depth to the top notes but doesn't retract from the delicious, fruity concoction - it simply compliments it and gives it an edge. It is all very natural smelling.
The top notes last around 1.5hours on my skin before the floral element of Chance can be detected. Chanel have chosen a beautiful combination of fragrance notes here which blend together to offer a high quality, warm floral aroma. There is no cheap bouquet here. The main focus is on the lovely jasmine note. Jasmine can come across as being deep and sensual. Whilst the sensual element is present, the iris and hyacinth lift the scent and the overall aroma is delicate and feminine fresh which I prefer compared to a heavy, in your face floral. The strength of the heart of Chance is favourable with it being very noticeable but not 'in your face' overpowering as such.
Around 4 hours later, the scent changes quite a bit. The fresh, floral notes evaporate and a calming dry down becomes apparent. The musk note is the most prominent. Normally this would put me off as I often find musk too heavy and mature for my young skin. Chanel have managed to focus on the musk but add a touch of the other notes to tone it down to appeal to younger wearers which is appreciated. The powdery musk is complimented with hints of sweetness, subtle spice and the warmth of amber. The finishing aroma is very soothing, warm and quite special when compared to other fragrances using this typical line up of fragrance notes. Chance can still be detected on my skin around 10 hours after application and longer on clothing which I find excellent.
~Suitability~
I would urge anyone to 'try before you buy' when it comes to fragrances as one scent may smell lovely on a friend but may not suit your own skin. I would say Chance would appeal to the younger Chanel fans (mid 20's) to those in their 40s but that is just my opinion. It is much lighter than the older Chanel fragrances but doesn't grasp the complete youthfulness of Coco Mademoiselle. Chance is best suited for wearing during the day through to evening.
~Conclusion~
Chance EDP is a long lasting, high quality scent which I consider to be very feminine and special to wear. It ticks all the right boxes when it comes to strength, quality and variation of fragrance notes as I always feel beautiful when wearing it. The bottle is beautiful too and although expensive, I feel that this fragrance is well worth the premium price tag.
