Dior Miss Dior Cherie Eau de Parfum
Advantages: Lovely sweet scent
I'm incredibly fussy when it comes to fragrance and tend to stick to scents that are floral, feminine and fresh. Chanels Chance which I've previously written a review on is my favourite fragrance and ticks all the boxes on the things above that I find desirable in a perfume but I do like to have something to alternate it with. For this reason I always have a second bottle of fragrance in use and at the moment this is Christian Diors Miss Dior Cherie.
I first discovered Miss Dior Cherie about a year ago when I received a bottle as a Christmas gift and at first I was unsure as to whether I actually liked it or not. It is fruity and feminine but I also find it incredibly sweet which is something I'm normally not a fan of. Once I actually started to wear it and got used to the sweetness I found it to be a scent that grew on me and I really do enjoy using and wearing it now. So much so that it has been one of the few perfumes that I've actually repurchased.
About Miss Dior Cherie
Miss Dior Cherie is a sister fragrance of Miss Dior, designed to appeal to Diors younger and more modern customers. It was launched in 2005 by John Galliano and its release coincided with the 100th anniversary of Christian Dior's birth. The nose behind Cherie is Swiss born Christine Nagel who has also created fragrances for Lancome, Jo Malone, Armani and many other big names.
The bottle I have at the moment is the 30ml EDP which is very different in appearance to the larger bottles which have the silver bow design on the cap. This one is a Square, transparent glass bottle with a frosted, dog tooth pattern running down each side. The front is plain apart from a small off white coloured sticker with Miss Dior Cherie Eau de parfum printed upon it in silver lettering. The lid is made out of transparent plastic and is pretty much square in shape and has a small CD logo etched in to the top.
Overall quite a plain looking bottle apart from the frosted glass detailing but I have to say, I quite like the simple design. I have also owned the larger square bottles with the silver bow on and think I prefer this over that one. This is mainly because the bottle is easier to hold and is less bulky and also because I'm not a fan of the bow.
Top or head Notes
Green tangerine and strawberry leaves
Heart or middle notes
violette, pink jasmine, caramelized popcorn and strawberry sorbet
Fresh patchouli and crystalline musk
When I first spray Cherie I instantly get a sweet hit. The top notes sound like they'll be refreshing and the scent is described as being a chrype perfume but all I get from it is a very sweet strawberry smell that's a little bit sickly and synthetic instead of being fresh. After the top notes have evaporated I get a hint of the floral notes but these are overshadowed again by the strawberry and also by the sugary aroma which I assume is supposed to be the caramelized popcorn. As the base notes start to come through the sweetness warms a little bit and I get the patchouli and musk which freshens the overall aroma but the strawberry is still the dominant scent throughout.
In my opinion it's not a terribly complex fragrance and I am a little bit disappointed that it's not fresher and that the floral notes aren't more prominent but despite the complaints, I still really like it. It's really quite girly and obviously suited to a younger audience which is what was intended when it was created. It would be nice if it were slightly more grown up and sophisticated and I'm sure this would make it more appealing to a wider range of women but the fact that's it not makes it a fun, happy fragrance to wear.
Lasting power isn't bad. It's not an incredibly long lasting perfume but I get a good four to five hours of pretty strong scent before it starts to fade and I'm left with a much more subtle, sweet aroma. This is actually the time when I like the fragrance the most; it's lovely when I get a little fruity hint of it throughout the day.
Priced at £43.00 at Debenhams and Boots for a 30ml EDP, £59.00 for a 50ml and a huge £83.00 for the 100ml, it isn't exactly cheap. The weaker EDT is understandably less but smells quite different which is why I stick with the Eau de parfum version. There is also a shower gel and body lotion available in the same range/scent which are both well over £20.00 and last time I purchased a bottle of perfume I noticed a body soufflé which costs a whopping £51.00 a tub. I have seen the EDP and other versions available online for a lot less than the price Debenhams are asking but it might be worth checking reviews for authenticity on the scents stocked before purchasing. I always worry about designer perfumes from sites I'm not entirely sure about and would personally rather pay the extra and buy from a department store.
Would I recommend?
I would although it's not a fragrance that would appeal to everyones taste but that can be said about all scents anyway as perfume is such an individual thing. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fruity, sweet fragrances and I think this would be a perfect albeit pricey gift for a younger girl who's just getting in to wearing perfume.
As I mentioned above, in some ways I am quite disappointed with certain areas of the fragrance and feel that there is something missing which prevents this being a truly lovely perfume but what I do get out of it I'm happy with. I have already repurchased a bottle once and will do so again when my current bottle runs out.
