Before I even start writing about this perfume I better tell you the story behind why I bought it. When my mom was pregnant - before she found out obviously, she wasnt deliberatly drinking whilst expecting!! - we were given a bottle of Absynthe as a present. We spent the night playing various drinking games with the bottle and then the very next day my mom found out that she was to have a baby. So we always associate the drink with getting pregnant so when I saw that Avon had released this 'Christian Lacroix Absynthe' perfume I knew she would get a laugh out of it so I decided to buy a bottle for us to use. I have to admit I bought this for the reason above alone and not because I assumed it would be nice - Ive been very shocked by this because its actually a really nice scent!!

The Bottle:

Fits in with the overall theme and name of this perfume very well in my opinion - the colours and design are just spot on! The bottle is a teardrop kind of shape in design and is a bright green shade just like the actual drink Absynthe. The front of the bottle has an embossed gold pattern around the name of the perfume which again fits in very well with the brands theme. Normally green isnt the type of colour Id go for as usually I find its quite a masculine colour but with the pattern and the gold that makes this one much more feminine than I expected and its quite different to any other perfume bottles I own so I can display it among them and it stands out really well - it would certainly catch you eye if they sold this in stores. At the top of the bottle is a gold plastic lid which is simply pulled off to reveal the push down spray nozzle you would expect to find on a perfume. As far as I can tell the lid is very secure as it has never leaked and the bottle is stunning and effective - definitely one to add to any collection design wise I reckon.

The Scent:

Im pretty rubbish at picking out the individual notes in a perfume so I did some digging around the net and found the main ingredients that make up this scent are -

Top Notes: Star Anise, Wormwood, Absynthe [obviously!!] & Freesia.
Middle Notes: Orchid & Saffron.
Base Notes: Myrhh, Musk, Amber & Ebony Wood.

I have to be honest I didnt think Id like the smell of this - I thought it would smell like the Absynthe drink tastes but this one really shocked me because its actually a really stunning scent - that smells way more expensive than it actually is I think. First off this seemed to me like a normal floral scent as the Orchid & Freesia were the only scents I could smell which was pleasant enough but not what I was expecting - luckily after just a few seconds this perfume starts to really heat up and that brings the other notes into play. The Star Anise & Absynthe get stronger after a few seconds and give the floral notes a quite spicy yet sweet edge to it - which normally I wouldnt like because spicy scents arent my thing but in this case they give the perfume a nice edge rather than make me feel like Im wearing curry sauce. I like that this perfume has many different levels to it - floral, sweet, heavy, hot, spicy and somehow all the different scents manage to work well and mix together well rather than overpower one another so its actually a really amazing fragrance.

This scent is a very heavy one and its very warm so at times this is quite a masculine fragrance I think. Thats perfect for me though because I like heavy scents that can be worn at nightime but if your looking for a light, normal and everyday scent this wont be it however if your looking for something really different that has a really unique scent then this one will be perfect!!

Staying Power:

Is pretty amazing Ive found. This lasts at least 8-9 hours on my skin - probably because its so heavy - and thats way better than average in my experience so staying power is amazing and you wont need to keep reapplying this while your out and about.

Age:
Id say this one is probably for 20's and upwards because it is so heavy and smells really expensive I assume younger women and teens would prefer something a little lighter and less complicated. However everyones different so if you can test this out (might be hard!!) do before you buy it!

Day Or Night? Summer Or Winter?
I dont think there is a season more appropriate for wearing this perfume but it is 100% a night perfume. I think this would be far too heavy to wear in the day but it is perfect for the evening and it will last all night long.

I will definitely be buying this again because it has really surprised me by how nice it is ad how brilliant the staying power is. The only reason Im knocking a * off is because you wont be able to test this out before you buy as its not available in store - that will mean a few people will buy this on name alone and hate it as its not a scent for everyone! I do recommend it though its amazing!!
