Christian Lacroix Absynthe Eau de Parfum
Advantages: gorgeous bottle, smells nice, long lasting, versatile
Disadvantages: glass on the bottom of the bottle is very thick so looks like you're getting more than you are
I asked for Christian Lacroix's Absynthe perfume for Christmas as I remember really liking it when I tried a sample of it ages ago when it first came out and it comes in the same bottle (only a different colour) as the Christian Lacroix Rouge perfume, which I found too spicy, but I adored the bottle design.
~ Price and availability ~
The perfume is by Christian Lacroix for Avon so it is not available in the shops.
You can order a bottle from the Avon brochure or from their website, www.avonshop.co.uk. It usually costs £20.00 for a 50ml bottle, but can often be found on offer for £12.00.
£12.00 is the cheapest I have seen it for.
You can also buy it in a miniature gift set along with Christian Lacroix Rouge (red bottle) and Christian Lacroix Nuit (purple bottle), which costs £15.00 for 3 miniature 4ml bottles. Absynthe comes in a green/yellow coloured bottle.
~ Packaging and bottle ~
The bottle comes in a green metallic card box decorated with a shiny gold floral design and shiny green embossed vines.
The green/yellow coloured glass bottle is almost teardrop shaped, only with a flat bottom and it has 'Christian Lacroix ABSYNTHE' in small gold lettering on the front of the bottle with a gold floral vine pattern around it, the same as the design on the box.
The design and lettering are really small on the bottle and like I said in my review of the Rouge perfume it looks mega cute.
The lid of the perfume is about an inch wide, wider than the spray button. It is just over a centimetre tall and it is oval shaped, when looking at it from above. The lid is made from transparent green/yellow plastic to match the colour of the bottle.
Something I have just noticed about the bottle is that just under an inch of the bottom is just solid glass, when I had originally thought it was all perfume. This is a clever trick as I didn't notice this at first and I bet if I had a good look at my Rouge bottle (which has dark glass so it would be more difficult to see) it will be the same.
If you look at Dooyoo's picture you can see the thick glass at the bottom of the bottle, but this is an inaccurate picture. The glass bottom actually comes up to the pattern on the bottle - half way up the pattern below the wording. I swear I am not exaggerating here.
It makes it look like you are getting more perfume than you actually are, but I do like the size of the bottle so I don't mind too much, but it could make you feel like you have more perfume left than you actually do.
Another thing I should say about Dooyoo's picture is it looks like the bottle is full to the top, but my bottle was only taken out of the cellophane yesterday and I have sprayed it no more than 4 times and there is almost a centimetre without perfume at the top of the bottle. I did notice that it wasn't totally full when I first opened it, which doesn't bother me, but it seems unfair of Avon to promote the perfume using this picture when it is inaccurate.
~ Scent ~
This perfume contains top notes of anise and Artemisia, heart notes of orchid and freesia and base notes of myrrh and musk.
It is quite a warming fragrance. It is quite a woody scent with a light spicy element. I don't usually like spicy perfumes, but the spice in this is does not dominate the fragrance and it isn't too harsh.
The floral notes are evident once it has settled on my skin, but I would not describe this perfume as particularly feminine.
The scent is very strong and I find the perfume quite heavy.
I have found it to be very long lasting. I have worn it for about 12 hours today and it was still evident before I started spraying more on to help me to write this review.
I think this perfume would be suitable for day time or night time wear. It is quite dark and mysterious and I could easily imagine wearing it for a night out.
I think the scent is pretty versatile and would appeal to women in their 20's (like myself) as well as more mature women. I think it smells like it would be quite expensive.
I really like this scent and I am really pleased with it.
~ Conclusion ~
I like this scent and I would definitely consider buying this scent again once I have used my bottle up.
It is a nice floral, woody scent, which is lightly spiced, but it is not too harsh.
It is long lasting and I absolutely love the bottle. Although it is not the nicest of colours (I think a deeper, less yellow green would have been nice), I think the design is really nice. The gold lettering and pattern on the front are really small and cute. It is a nice shape and the lid is a nice shape and finishes the bottle off nicely.
Summary: Probably a 4.5 out of 5, but I'll round down to 4!
