Advantages: A nice subtle sensual scent
Disadvantages: Doesn't last long
I used to love trying different perfumes when I was younger and due to working in Boots for 12 years before I had my boys I was lucky enough to have been given a lot of testers as incentives or rewards from my manager, after leaving the company I seemed to stick with the one perfume I preferred which was Jean-Paul Gaultier, I did occasionally dabble in others but always seemed to return to my favourite.
This year for Christmas I decided to try something different and I received a sample of Christina Aguilera perfume a month ago, now I don't usually go in for these so called celebrity perfumes but after testing this one I decided to take the plunge and ask father Christmas to put a bottle of this in my stocking! So will it replace my favourite?
THE BORING BITS
Christina is mainly an American singer but found fame when she was about 13 on the Mickey Mouse club with other young stars such as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. When they all started their solo careers Christina was the more raunchier and portrayed by the media to become the out of control one, but obviously that's not what happened and you must have been living on the moon not to of noticed Britney Spears life spiral out of control!
Apparently this perfume was inspired by her honeymoon and love of old movie star glamour, she hopes it reflects her playful sexiness!
Christina launched this perfume in October 2007 and it went on to become the 2nd best selling celebrity perfume of 2007; it was launched through Proctor and Gamble who I was surprised to see is also responsible for other fragrances including Boss, ghost, lacoste, hugo and my personal favourite old spice!
PACKAGING
It comes in a glass bottle that is supposed to be shaped a bit like a curvy ladies body (it would be a lot bigger if it was my curves!). The bottle is designed on vintage movies stars of the past, covering the front of the bottle is a black lace effect pattern that actually looks quite nice. On the neck of the bottle is a small thin black bow, which is supposed to be provocative, the lid is plastic and has a crystal effect but I feel it would of, looked better if this to had been glass. The spray is a normal bog standard one, all in all this bottle does look good but on to the important bit does it smell good?
THE SMELL TEST
Ok the scent of a perfume is usually divided into notes: top, middle & base,
The top note is the scent you smell as soon as you spray.
The middle note is the scent you smell after the top note dies down.
The base note is usually mixed with the middle note after the top note has completely disappeared and that is the true scent of the fragrance.
For this fragrance the top notes are exotic fruit sorbet, sparkling tangerine and fruity blackcurrant tea.
The middle notes are peony, jasmine and plum.
The base notes are amber, vanilla and musk.
So reading that you should know exactly what this fragrance smells like! Yeah right reading that lot it reads more like a cocktail than a perfume!
When I first spray this on you can smell the fruits in it but to be honest not the blackcurrant tea! You then get the floral scent, which is quite nice, and I really don't usually like floral fragrances but the best bit is the scent when all the notes have settled, it really does smell different to anything else I have sniffed. Asking the other half what he thought of he mumbled something about it being fruity, I can really smell the amber mixed with the musk but then also it seems that at times it is a bit fruity, after it has been on for about an hour it becomes very subtle and smells more of vanilla than anything else but this really is when it seems to smell more sensual. I have also asked a few people what they thought of this fragrance when i am wearing it (not strangers in the street but people i actually know!) and most of them have said that is was nice but nothing special.
This fragrance is not heavy and I didn't get a headache from it as some can do, I would say at a push it is a day time fragrance but i have worn it out in the evening. I have tried my best to describe the scent but I would advise you to test it on yourself first as fragrance can smell different on different people.
The only draw back to this perfume is the scent really doesn't last very long, when I wear Jean Paul Gaultier the scent stays with me for ages, if I am out for the night I can still smell it when I get home but I have noticed with this one that after about 3 hours I have to reapply which means I have to take it out with me. I did get this perfume in a gift box with shower gel and body lotion and have tried layering the scent with them but it really doesn't make that much difference.
APPLICATION
The best places to spray are on the pulse points; I have actually found a good place to spray is the back of the knees. When you spray on the wrists try not to rub them together, it's not a good idea to test fragrances during that time of the month (girls only!) as your hormones come into play and you may not get a true scent. Do not over use any perfume as there is nothing worse than being able to smell someone before you see them!!
To keep your perfume fresh do not leave in direct sun light. It is better to keep in the dark and not next to a radiator.

WILL IT REPLACE MY FAVOURITE?
In a word no, I really do like this fragrance it does smell sensual and really seems to suit me but it just doesn't last long enough for me. I received the 30ml in a gift set and that bottle will not last me very long at all where as with the Jean Paul a bottle of that will last me ages. The price is quite good but it doesn't work out cheap if you use it up quickly and have to keep buying it, I may ask for it again as a gift but really wouldn't buy it myself. So my quest to replace my favourite has failed again so it's back to the drawing board or perfume counter!
