Advantages: Strong!!

Disadvantages: It isn't a nice scent!

I should first say that I actually got a small sample bottle of this perfume as part of a gift package for buying ridiculous amounts of Clinique products (!) - meaning that I didn't choose it myself. Therefore I suppose it probably isn't fair that I review it in a way as usually we only review perfumes that we chose for ourselves and therefore probably like!

As it turns out I unfortunately don't like Elixir - at least certainly not for me, or anyone my age. Perhaps on someone older this would be appealing, but I don't find it to be an adaptable fragrance at all like a lot of other perfumes now that could be worn by many different types of people.

So what's the first impression of this fragrance? For me it's one of those POW type scents - I find it really incredibly strong. For me it is an overpoweringly sweet and quite powdery scent. Something very powerful like lavendar seems to be the first hit for me, but with a more artificial and quite sickly sweet aspect to it. Clinique say that the perfume's primary notes are jasmine, rose, ylang ylang and vetiver - and you would immediately recognise the scent as predominantly floral. Perhaps this is why it always smells like talcum powder to me - and somewhat more 'mature'. I really don't know anyone in their teens, twenties, or thirties who likes this perfume. it is definitely for someone older.

I also find that because it is such a strong and heady scent it actually has given me a headache the times when I have worn it. On the positive side though, I guess that if you did like the scent it would have good staying power and would definitely make an impact because of how strong it is.

Not recommended from me but could suit you if you're slightly older and like sweet, floral fragrances.

Summary: Not recommended for anyone under 40.
