Advantages: A one off distinctive classy fragrance
Disadvantages: The "marmite" of perfumes
Aromatics Elixir is made by the brand Clinique, and has been around since 1971.
The official blurb regarding this fragrance describes it as "a refreshing, woody fragrance. This feminine scent possesses a blend of fresh and woody with blend of oakmoss, white jasmine, chamomile and patchouli".
I am not a perfume connoisseur, but I know what I like, and I certainly like this...
This definately isn't a day to day perfume. It's more for special occasions and big nights out. I have to say that this is a perfume you will either totally love or totally hate, and it definately makes a statement!
I have lost count of the times when I have been on a night out and someone has asked me what perfume I am wearing, and they have been keen to know where they can buy it from etc.
But a couple of other people have asked me what perfume I am wearing and you can tell by their face, that I guess they are asking so that they can avoid it rather than purchase it.
It is extremely distinctive, and because it's a perfume which I believe smells like no other, it's impossible to make a "if you like such and such perfume you will like this" type of comment.
Aromatics Elixir is available from major department stores and larger Boots stores, and lately this perfume has become far more assessible than it used to be, as I have recently seen this for sale is a few other chemist type shops as well.
Whilst I usually expect to pay about £40 for this (for a 45ml bottle), If you shop around you can expect to pay about the £30 mark.
One advantage of purchasing this full price from a Clinique counter rather than a cheaper outlet is... Clinique counters often have an offer on where if you purchase 2 items (within with specification) you will get a free set of trial size Clinique cosmetic and skincare products to try.
This is known as "Bonus Time", and the products vary in content, but are a great way to try a premium brand and decide if something suits you before you invest in a full size product, so look out for "Bonus Time" being advertised in store.
I can also say that all the Clinque counter staff I have encountered are extremely knowledgable about their products, and so they can also discuss and help with any concerns you may have about product content or skin types etc.
To summarise - Personally I feel that Aromatics Elixir definitely isn't a day to day perfume. It is more for special occasions and big nights out. My auntie describe this smell as "unique". Personally I would describe the smell as "expensive".
I would suggest that before purchasing this, you try it, leave it for an hour to settle on your skin, and then smell it and judge for yourself. If you like it, but are unsure how often you would get to use it their is also a 10ml size currently available for around £18.
Summary: Not for everyone but I like it.
