I bought my last bottle of Clinique Happy from the Clinique.co.uk website for £32.50 about three weeks ago. Its actually not that easy to find Clinique in the shops anymore, and so when I do run out I generally buy it online which isn't necessarily cheaper, but it is certainly easier to track the fragrance down this way. The £32.50 bought be a 50ml bottle which will generally last me about 6 months.
I don't feel that the bottle and packaging for this perfume is very distinctive or innovative - which is a shame as I do like the more interesting shaped designs that many manufacturers are bringing out these days. Clinique happy looks a little boring and lacklustre - and I know that packaging shouldn't be important....but it kind of is! This bottle would not jump out at you on the shelf - and if it wasn't for trying it on at a friend's house, I doubt I would have given it a second glance.
The bottle is clear and is a flattened cylinder in shape (I don't know how else to describe it!). It has a gold lid to it, which pulls off to reveal a standard spray nozzle applicator. The bottle is emblazoned with yellowy golden words over it, saying "Happy to be" all over it - which is a phrase I really like and which fits my philosophy on life. The perfume itself is a very light yellow / orange....not disimilar to a very light coloured white wine.
Applying the perfume is easy with just a press of the nozzle directly onto the skin. The perfume is released in a fine spray that seems to be sprayed in a mist over a large area and so this means that you're not left with a sticky or wet streak on you. I hate it when you spray a perfume on and you're left with a fine drizzle snaking down my cleavage!!
The smell reminds me of summer...which, in the midst of autumn / winter, is actually generally very welcome. While everything else becomes darker, gloomier and heavier, I like to wear something lighter which reminds me of warmer and sunnier times! Its quite a flowery smell, but not a sickly sweet flowery smell which I generally dislike. Besides the flowery smell is something slighly more acidic....almost zesty, but not lemony....rather more like grapefruit or mango. Despite being a light perfume, I feel its aroma is distinctive and unique.
Most important is how wearing this perfume makes me feel. It makes me feel light, care-free and young. It makes me feel like summer is only just around the corner and that there are good times to be had. It makes me feel energized and relaxed at the same time. I do feel that its more of a day perfume and they type of thing that I'd put on if I was having a day out with the girls, rather than something that's sensual and romantic.
The perfume does have staying power - although not perhaps as long as stronger perfumes like Obsession, Coco, Opium etc. However, because its designed to be a more subtle perfume, I don't think the fact that the aroma fades slightly over time, really matters. I will tend to reapply it maybe once or twice in the day if I have it with me, but if not, although the strength of the aroma does fade after a few hours, it can still be detected and smells good.
Overall, I like this perfume for day wear - or for casual occasions.
I have been a fan of Clinique perfumes since they first brought out the Happy range. I have progressed with each of the newest fragrances as they have been released, that was until Happy To Be arrived. One sniff and I was smitten.
For years I have suffered watching those silly perfume adverts that you see on the TV. The adverts that lead you to believe that you will become beautiful and alluring with just one squirt. For the first time in my life I could associate with those ads, for me it happened. Happy To Be was what had been missing in my life! One spray and I turned into a cross between Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz and Bridget Bardot. Suddenly I became irresistible to men just as the ads had indeed suggested. You may want to know more about this irresistible fragrance.
Happy To Be is a light romantic fragrance, it has subtle citrus undertones, and is light and floral. I smell freesias, lilly of the valley and jasmine whenever I wear it. It is fresh and light but sexy at the same time. it is not a sickly floral scent but has the perfect balance. When I use the body wash, body lotion then perfume subtly building up the layers it smells Divine.
Pride of place at the top of my Christmas list was my beloved Happy To Be. Christmas arrived and I was almost shaking in anticipation. There was a beautifully wrapped gift that looked and felt very much like Happy To Be. But alas my hopes were crushed as I ripped open the paper to expose a tube of anti wrinkle cream (that one is being saved for another review) insulted? No, I love my kids!
The reason that I hadn't got my annual supply of heaven was that Clinique in their wisdom have discontinued this perfume. I have been scouring the Internet since and have found a few companies that have still got some in stock, they are few and far between though but I have managed to get together a good supply to last me a while. I am however a little concerned that it will go off. A big plus for me is that it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.
Clinique, happy to be, Eau de parfum is a nice perfume and comes in a really handy little travel bottle as well as the larger standard ones. This ofen comes free with the clinique presents that you can get free in stores when you spend a certain amount on the clinique counter, so you too can perhaps get a taster of this fragrance?!
It has quite a fresh smell to it and i feel confident wearing it due to its strong fragrance. I feel 'happy to be' is a really good name for this product as it does make the person wearing it feel happier due to the confidence boost you gain from it and and those around them also have a smileon their face as they ask where you got it as they like it!I have had this many a times when i have worn it.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO ALL
I'm not much of a perfume connoisseur, but I know what I like and it's not stinky, overpowering florals like the kind your permed auntie used to wear in the 80s and choke you with as a kid. In fact, I love mens' fragrances - they're woody, musky and don't go stale after half an hour. Unfortunately, wearing Contradiction For Men will probably never do me any favours as far as boys are concerned ... I have, however, found the middle ground when it comes to perfume and that is light, spicy florals. Usually I get those cheapy Body Shop perfumes that you can mix and match, as at least a couple of them usually tend to fit the bill.
I can tell you now, though, that if you've any similar taste to me, you'll love Clinique Happy To Be. I can't tell you about notes and things, because I'm not that clever, but what I can tell you is that it's wonderfully subtle, flowery, maybe with a hint of citrus and spice. Very light and easy to wear - quite summery in that respect. Think floaty skirts and ballet pumps! Definitely worth trying out in town if you're looking for something fresh and wearable.
