Advantages: Fresh, light fragrance, suitable for everyday use, reasonably long lasting

Disadvantages: I find I need more squirts than with other perfumes therefore using up more

I know it's never a good idea to buy perfumes without first testing them, but sometimes when I'm in TK Maxx I can't help myself. Which, considering their prices aren't as good as you can find online, is not such a great idea. Still, perfumes for me are one of those things that are hard to resist - besides the pretty bottles, who doesn't like smelling good?

So Happy was one of those impulse buys, but I'm always glad to have a new fragrance and from the brief blurb on the box, seemed like a safe bet. I'm a sucker for citrus, I love light, fresh scents rather than heavier more "grown up" smells, and the cheery orange box promised a scent to match.

It delivers! Happy is often advertised with the tagline "A hint of citrus; a wealth of flowers; a mix of emothions; wear it and be happy". And it manages to be pleasantly citrusy without being too tangy (thanks to its top note of bergamot and mid/base notes of grapefruit and lemon), and floral (c/o freesia, honeysuckle and Hawaiian wedding flower) without getting into old-lady scent territory. The overall fragrance is sweet, flirty and fresh, light enough for day wear, especially in the summer, but still grown up.

I wear Happy almost every day, and I find that it lasts reasonably well (most of the day and then lingers on my clothes) although I do tend to use quite a few squirts. As it is quite a delicate scent that one or two squirts, for me, is somewhat hard to notice. Fortunately this is a scent which I feel would be quite hard to overdo, there's nothing worse than being stuck in an office with someone wearing an overpowering scent and I have only ever got compliments for how good I smell!

Of course, the drawback is that this makes the bottle run out pretty quickly. I have had this for about three months and am about a fifth down my 30ml bottle. I'd really recommend buying this smaller version, as perfume does have a shelf life of about 1-2 years. I'm not really one to pay attention to those rules (perfume is EXPENSIVE after all!) but with everyday use you should be using up Happy at about that rate.

Speaking of the bottle, I always love to have perfume in a pretty bottle but unfortunately Happy is pretty boring in this respect. A thin oval-shaped bottle with a tall silver lid of the same shape. Small print on the top stating the brand in white and the name in orange. Not exactly a statement but simple and classy.

Price-wise, this is fairly cheap for a higher-end brand at £20 for a 30ml bottle. You can find it a little cheaper on Cheapsmells.com, Fragrance Direct, etc, but not too heavily discounted, usually around £18. There is a lotion and body wash available, and Clinique offer a couple more perfumes in the "Happy" family, so be careful to choose the right one. For me, Happy is definitely my favourite of the lot.

But most importantly...does wearing it make me happy? YES! It's well documented that citrus scents are good for giving you an energy boost and elevated mood, and Happy does make me feel good. If only for the fact that I like smelling nice!

I'd recommend Happy as a good everyday perfume for someone looking for a fresh, discrete scent.
