“ Brand: Coleen McLoughlin / Type: Fragrance / Concentration: Eau de Toilette / Gender: for women „
Coleen: Summer is the follow up perfume to Coleen's original self titled perfume. This perfume became available earlier this year and it was supposed to be a summer version of the original scent though I did find that the original perfume was very summer like anyway. Seeing as I really liked the original perfume, I didn't see any harm in picking up a 50ml bottle of this one and when I saw it for £8.99 in the Perfume Shop I thought it was a bit of a bargain.
The perfume was limited edition but I can still find it easily enough online and in a few stores on the highstreet, especially the Perfume Shop. It is available in 50ml and 100ml bottles and you can be looking at paying anything from £8.99 - £19.99 depending on where you look. The perfume I am reviewing is the 50ml version - the 100ml is taller and blue in colour.
The perfume comes packaged a little nicer than the original and photos of Coleen on the front are long gone so obviously someone somewhere agreed with me that having a picture of her on the front of the perfume was not a good idea. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the woman but I do think it is a little tacky to have the named celebrity on the front of the perfume. The box this time goes for a more girly, summer look and is a grape purple colour and it has little vines and leaves and a couple of butterflies on it. This is in an almost white purple colour. In the middle of the box "Coleen" is printed in the same signature style font with a "x" at the end. Just underneath is the word "Summer" to let you know that this is a different fragrance.
The bottle itself is really pretty this time and alot better than the original. It is shorter and slightly fatter though still square. It is pretty much identical to the box, just that you can see the perfume inside the bottle and you can see just how much you are using. The lid is a deep purple cube shape. It is definately an improvement and much more girly and fun than the original bottle. I really like it and it looks summery too.
The scent is made up of the following scent notes: mandarin, orange, vanilla, rose and a mix of musks. If I am completely honest, I find the difference between this perfume and the original only slight. I still get the wine scent as I did from the original though this time it is masked by a musky smell which makes it seem as though it is more suited to a summer's night or early evening. I have a hard time detecting any vanilla. The perfume is just as strong as the original and starts off with the same heady scent though it does settle down into a musky orange scent which is very pretty and a little different to the original.
I do prefer this perfume to the original due to the muskiness of it but the difference between them is very slight which is a shame. It has the same amount of strength as the original and lasts for around 8 hours.
Design wise, this one is definately an improvement. The general packaging and the bottle is alot better. It is girlier and summery too which is nice and I really liked the design of the leaves and butterflies on the bottle and box. If you really like Coleen's perfumes or prefer scents which are muskier then I do recommend you get it but as the difference is only slight, I wouldn't worry too much if you haven't purchased this perfume yet. There really is no rush.
I was given this perfume as a present for my birthday last year. When I fist sprayed the perfume I didn't think I liked it. It seemed that it was too strong of a perfume for me. But it does grow on you and now I do wear it from time to time.
When fist sprayed this perfume can be overwhelming and very strong. But after being sprayed the over powering smell does fade and you re left with a smell that is a little more wearable.
The smell itself can have hint of fruitiness, but I personally think that those scent are not strong enough. This perfume has quite a string musky smell to it and I think this is the reason why I didn't like it that much. I prefer more sweeter and lighter perfume, which this sadly isn't.
I think when I looked at the name of the perfume I was expecting a fragrance that was a little more sweeter and fruiter, to represent summer. I personally don't think that this perfume has the best staying power, compared to other perfumes, but it does stay for a reasonable amount of time.
I think the bottle of this perfume really does make up for the fragrance inside, as the bottle in lovely. It is a tall, rectangular shape and purple in colour. The lid is a dark purple, whereas the other half is a see-through purple colour, which gets darker at the bottom of the bottle.
On the front of the bottle it says Coleen Summer, in white writing. And on each of the corners of the bottle there are butterflies and branches with leaves on them. I really love the style of writing the name of the perfume is written in and I think this makes the perfume look sophisticated and classy.
Now, because I revived this perfume as a present from a friend, I don't know where she got it from or for how much. But you can get this perfume on the Semi-Chem website for £12.99, and that's for a 50ml bottle. I can say that this is probably the good thing about this perfume, as you do get a lot out of the 50ml bottle and therefore it will last a good amount of time.
I honestly think when my bottle of Coleen Summer runs out, that I won't be buying another one. The fragrance wasn't the worst I have ever smelt, but at the same time I don't find myself using it that often.
So I would say to anyone wanting to but this perfume, to have a sniff of it in a shop or get a sample of it to try first.
I purchased this last year for £7.99 for a 30ml bottle, from Semi Chem as I thought it would be an okay fragrance to pop in my bag and take to work rather than use one of my more expensive fragrances.
The bottle is quite cute, the lid is a deep shade of purple with the glass, also purple, having butterlies scattered delicately across the container and is small enough to carry about.
I can best describe the scent as a fresh, fruity, girly scent perfect for long summer days. One spritz of this fragrance and you are immediately aware of the top notes of orange and mandarin which are deliciously fresh and inviting. After a short while you can then detect the warmer aromas of creamy vanilla and fragrant rose, which gives more depth to this othewise light perfume.
Once this perfume dries down you are left with the more sensual musky scent which gives a more exotic dimension to this fragrance. Don't be put off by the musk, thinking it may be a little heavy for summer, it is still very light and fresh, definitely not an evening type of scent.
Even though I very much like this offering from Coleen, I do think it is lacking a little something, perhaps an extra element in the top notes, may be another light floral scent, but that is only my opinion.
I was quite surprised that a fragrance by Coleen Rooney of wag fame could be so sophisticated, I expected it to be overly sweet and sickly which this is most definitely not.
The scent doesn't last very long, a few hours at the most, but being an eau de toilette I didn't expect it to last long anyway.
For the price I paid it is great value, a delicious summer scent, but I don't think I will make a repeat purchase, the only reason being is that I like to try other perumes and increase my fragrance wardrobe.
I would still recommed Coleen Summer if you, like me, prefer a light fruity/floral scent for summer days, especially if you can get it at such a good price.
