A nice enough scent but not worth the price tag

Comme des garcons - Amazingreen - for men or women

I received this small sample vial in the mail. I honestly cannot say where I got it from as I often request samples and it makes a lovely surprise when they arrive and I get to try things I certainly would risk buying sight or smell unseen or unsmelled!

The package mine came in was a green plastic outer envelope with a small glass bottle mini spray. I love these small sample sizes to try new smells and also I take them on holiday as they are so light and then dump them when I have used them. On the side of the bottle is the name of the scent and in smaller type the brand name, neither are very special, just plain simple text.

This is sold in a green bottle that is sort of similar to an iphone 3 sort of flat stone shaped or a bit like a small hipflask with rounded corners. There is the brand and scent name in a darker simple text and It is simple and very understated.

This is not a brand I have come across before but as i do like earthy scents i was looking forward to trying it. I guess the name is saying that the perfumes are unisex and maybe the clothes too as it is a Parisian based fashion brand owned by a Japanese designer, Rei Kawkubo. Again I have not heard of the fashion brand but I am not very well up in high end branded fashion so hardly surprising I suppose.
This company has 68 different fragrances, the first was created in 1994 and the fragrances are created in collaboration with a large number of perfumiers not just one or two which I found unusual. Amazingreen was launched in 2012 so it is a pretty new arrival and the creator of this fragrance is Jean-Christophe Herault.

Some of their perfumes are unisex while others are specifically aimed at either men or women. This is one of the unisex ones.

"An evocation of the lush exuberance of nature. A dazzling fusion or organic and mineral, of freshness and depth. An outstanding blast of green energy, the creation of the ultimate green fragrance, Amazingreen."

The top notes are : palm leaf, green pepper, green accord, water notes
The middle notes are: ivy, coriander, orris root
The base notes are: gun powder, incense, vetiver, white musk

When first sprayed on the opening is quite intense and strongly fresh and rather aftershave like, hints of my sons spraying their lynx deodorant come to mind. The first impression is strong and slightly herbal citrus.

After about ten minutes or so this does calm down a bit so that you can actually sniff the area you have put it on. At this stage I can strongly smell a definite garden sort of smell that reminds me of when we do the cutting back of our garden plants in the late autumn There is no sweetness in this that I can detect the scents are fresh, leafy and herbal and somehow also has that hint of dry autumn leaves as well.

After a while the base notes should begin to come through but to me it just becomes a milder autumn leafy sort of smell .

According to the site fragrantica this smells like :"The scent of gunpowder in an explosion of smoke and flint, clashes with the green energy of the jungle and the effervescence of spices."

To me this is a really outdoorsy sort of smell with the fresher green leaves combining with the notes of flint and coriander then moving onto the darker smoky aroma from the explosion of gunpowder which is tempered slightly by the creamier white musk. The base sadly doesn't carry much punch just a hint of woodiness, musk and a hint of smoke. They could have pushed the gunpowder more to make it have a bit more depth and smokiness.

It lasts reasonably well on me and I can still smell it faintly about three hours after I put it on I can still smell a hint of gardening in autumn so earthy.

I find it quite unusual but rather manly aftershave to ever really be one for me long term. You could wear it day or night and in my opinion is probably not for the girly feminine sorts of women. It is not feminine in any way. From the man's point of view I wouldn't like to say as my husband refuses to wear 'perfume' as he calls it.

I do quite like it but it is not a cheap perfume at about £70 for 50ml on Amazon and £70 for 100ml and samples selling on Ebay for about £3.50 for 1ml or 2ml bottles. I can't say I would pay that sort of money for this as it isn't special enough for that sort of money.

Most of the reviews I have read about this pan it and say it is disappointing for CdG brand . I have to say I don't take to this as much as I did to the CdG2 I have also reviewed. It just doesn't seem to have much depth to it and is rather too manly for me with no creamy sweetness or woodiness to attract me . As the people in lush say your skin is the final ingredient and that effects how different scents develop. Always try your perfumes first, if you can, before making a big expensive purchase. These samples are a great way to try them. This little bottle was about 2ml and gave me about two or three days use I would say and I am so thrilled I got it as a free sample after seeing the prices on Ebay for the same little bottles. On Amazon the 50ml bottle is £57 and 100ml is £70 which is a lot in my humble opinion.

Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same username.
