Advantages: In my opinion the best CK yet, Very pleasant and long lasting fragrance

Disadvantages: Pricey as are all high quality fragrances

What was one of the presents I got for Christmas?. Yes you guessed it, a bottle of Calvin Klein’s Contradiction Eau De Toilette Spray.

In all my time here I think one of the most difficult products to write about would be a fragrance because there is so little one can write about it. Also explaining the fragrance of a fragrance is a ominous task. However I will give it my best shot.

When I opened up this particular present the first thing I noticed was that it came in a almost black colour box which was of standard shape and proportions and which I found rather simple and common looking.

However once I opened the box and pulled out the actual product it was a different story altogether. The bottle is in a square shape and the cover slips over the bottle almost to the bottom. This is unlike other fragrance bottles that I have used, which usually have shorter covers or caps. The cover is in a matt silver finish and looks really sleek and impressive. The bottle is transparent and almost totally of glass. Only the top part is made of the same material as the cover and holding the spray nozzle. Due to the clear glass you are able to see the colour of the liquid, which is lime green. This is to my liking since most of the other fragrances I have used come in stained glass bottles.

Prior to writing this opinion I did do some homework and found out that Contradiction is available in Eau De Toilette (which is the one I got) and After Shave.

Although this was given to me as a present the 100ml Eau De Toilette goes for £37.99 and is also available in 50ml bottles. The Contradiction range also includes other products and naturally a full range for the women.

Personally I have never purchased a fragrance, be it perfumes for the wife, Eau De Toilette or Colognes for myself, here in the U.K. Since I travel regularly it is much cheaper to purchase them at the Duty Free on my way back home. Since I usually fly via Amsterda
m I end up purchasing them for Schipol Airport, which although not the cheapest, do offer the very latest fragrances.

I first used my new fragrance on New Years Eve as me and the wife were attending a party being thrown by a close friend at his house.
My first impression of the smell was “refreshing” and at the same time not “overpowering”. Many fragrances that I have used are very strong and even with a couple of sprays or dabs you smell as if you’ve used the whole bottle. This overpowering smell usually takes a couple of hours to dissolve itself to more respectable limits. However with Contradiction, once applied it does smell pretty strong but quickly settles down to a more lingering and very desirable levels.

According to the information Contradiction it is Juniper, Bergamot and Lavender. The middle notes are: Sage, Coriander and Fressia and the base of the fragrance is: Sandalwood, Moss and Cedar.

I am not sure about all these fancy scents that it is supposed to contain but what I can tell you from personal experience is, is that it has a lemony and woody smell to it. Essences that supposedly contradict each other seem to instead compliment each other. To me this is a wonderful combination, which makes Contradiction not only a lovely fragrance but also a different one and also one that gives essence to it’s name.

Calvin Klein’s fragrances in general have not been popular with me as I felt that they all very somewhat similar to the mass of other fragrances available. With Contradiction they have produced something that is different from the norm and have significantly raised their stature in my eyes.

Overall I am very pleased with my new fragrance and place it in second spot just behind my all time favourite Cool Water by Davidoff.

pending on that I might be tempted into writing an op on Cool Water and would relish the challenge once again.
