I like to try different perfumes but I have to say I am quite picky when it comes to ones that I will by again and again, in fact I can probably name only five.
I don't particularly care for football and I don't much like the spice girls, so it may seem somewhat strange that I picked a perfume from the David and Victoria Beckham Range called Beckham Signature Story. It did to me to but to be fair, it was on offer.
The perfume comes in a delicate pink box which when you open up is copied into the bottle design. It is very box chunky like a rectangle shape with embossed writing on the back, which for the life of me I can't work out what it says, that you can see through from the front. The front of the bottle is very plain Beckham Signature in solid block writing and the tiny David Victoria Beckham signature logo above.
The lid is again box like in shape a painted silver with the logo on too.
The bottle is glass and quite easy to hold being a 30ml one you can pick it up easily and use with one hand. The lid is secure, it is actually quite hard to pull off to reveal the spray button underneath.
This combined with the square structure of the bottle can squash into your hands slightly, unlike curved bottles.
The spray comes out well and gives a good amount. When I first sprayed it, it reminded me of an older style perfume that perhaps my mum or even grandmother might wear. Not really my thing. But in the testing period I let the smell develop on my skin for a hour then re-visited it.
The smell has somewhat grown on me I have to say. It doesn't appear quite so harsh as it first did and seems to have mellowed into my skin. It is a warm smell that is not to overpowering and would make a nice perfume to wear in the day or to work. I prefer something with a little more spice for the evening.
Apparently the smell was designed to capture David and Victoria's love of vintage things according to the www.theperfumeshop.co.uk website where it can be found for £16.99 for 30ml or for 50ml it is £19.99.
As I am not to adapt at sniffing out what "notes" are in perfumes this is apparently what is in there.
White peony, orange blossom, peach, bitter orange, kumquat, musk, moss and patchouli.
Although it has musk in it which you can smell, the fragrance is not to strong and is definitely not dominated by it. I can smell peony in it and perhaps peach, which I guess is why it gives it a feminine smell.
It last a few hours but then needs topping up, but a squirt is usually enough and being 30ml version you can put it in your handbag quite easily.
Overall, I am genuinely surprised I actually like it and perhaps not something I would go out of my way to buy I would buy if it was on offer.
I've had quite a few of the Beckham Perfumes and like the Intimately Beckham ones. I had never thought of trying the David Beckham Perfume, as I assumed that it would smell quite masculine but I was surprised at how light and floral this smelt. I bought a 30ml bottle of this when I first bought this and I see this currently costs £18. The 50ml bottle is £20, so as usual it is best to buy the bigger size.
The bottle for this looks alright. It's a clear glass bottle which is quite a rectangular shape. The lid is a shiny silver colour and looks nice enough against the light pink colour. The lettering is in black and it looks nice enough.
So how does this smell? The website doesn't exactly tell you much about the scent. The description says "Inspired by David and Victoria's love of all things vintage, Signature Story for Him and For Her are sensuous and elegant fragrances that carry a real signature statement. Although utterly contemporary, these complementary fragrances have more than a touch of film star glamour, conjuring up images of the Hollywood greats." Tells us nothing about the Perfume. So how do I describe this? The notes in here are White Peony, Peach, Bitter Orange, Patchouli, Orange Blossom, and Kumquat. So it sounds all Fruity, which it mainly is, but the Patchouli adds a heavier, Musky and slightly Oriental scent to it. When this is first sprayed it does smell quite strong, but not too bad. After the usual 20 minutes this settles down to a nice scent which doesn't smell too chemically, and it is a subtle tangy Fruity scent.
I would recommend this as an ideal Perfume if you like slightly Citrus Fruity Perfumes with a dash of heavier scent. It's an ok price for a designer brand and a nice lingering scent as well.
I got Beckham Signature for Her from a relative in one of the usual Cristmas gift sets with a perfume, shower gel and moisturiser in it. At first I was a little sceptical - I was expecting something strong and overpowering. I had a sniff and thought it was nice, put the box down and enjoyed the Christmas festivities. I was going to the pub on Boxing Day and thought I'd use one of my new perfumes I had received, so I reached for the Beckham Signature, gave it a little spritz everywhere, and headed out the door. I was amazed by its staying power; friends were asking me well into the night what it was I was wearing - usually I can't smell a perfume on myself for more than 10 minutes after I put it on! My baby Beckham Signature died a painful death as I arroved home one evening to find that it had smashed in my bag (but the bag smells beautiful!)
It's really hard to describe the smell, but I would say it is a mix of fruity, girly and fresh. It's not old, yet don't expect it to smell like sickly vanilla because it doesn't - its just the perfect inbetween! I remembered about this perfume when a friend from work came in wearing it and I was like, 'Omg she's wearing Signature I must buy that again!' and yes, I could smell it on her through the whole shift so I wasn't imagining things! I lovely perfume, and a real pleasant surprise! 8/10. :)
I wouldn't normally buy celebrity perfumes; I always think that they don't ever really get it right but at Christmas I went to Tesco to do the Christmas shop and picked up a bottle of what I thought was Beckham Signature Story for Him as a gift for my Godson. On checking the bill when I got home I saw perfume £17.99 on it and grabbed the box and saw that I had picked up Beckham Signature Story for her instead, I hadn't looked properly as I didn't realise there was a his and hers version. As I couldn't be bothered to take it back I decided to keep it in my collection and got my Godson the correct one from the local pharmacy.
I wouldn't normally not test a fragrance before I purchased it either so this was another first for me and it will be a last. I am not impressed with this fragrance at all; I find it smells very masculine rather like an aftershave.
Its notes include peach, bitter orange, kumquat, rose, white peony, orange blossom, musk, patchouli and moss.
The perfume is described as being an elegant, feminine and floral, however I cannot pick out any floral notes in this fragrance just a rather bitter orange smell. The longevity is poor as well it disappears entirely after about 2 hours.
The bottle is pretty boring as well just a plain square glass bottle with Beckham Signature written across the middle and a square silver stopper. The fragrance inside is a very pale pink. To what purpose I am not sure but there is some writing on the inside of the bottle that does not make any sense, I think that is meant to be a love note or something, but it is written in half sentences so no idea what that is all about, it is hand written with joined up writing so it could be that I just can't make the text out properly. There is also no indication on the bottle that it is for him or her, nor does it mention it being the Story version and as they do another fragrance called Beckham Signature, if you have thrown out the box one could get confused.
After I had used this perfume a few times, I started to dislike it more each time, so I relegated it to the loo as an air freshener.
You can buy this perfume from some supermarkets and chemists, for around £17.00 for 50ml bottle.
A perfume by the Beckham's is something I have always thought about and wondered many times about purchasing; the thing that stopped me is the celebrity side. Everyone and everyone in the celebrity circle have a perfume out and I didn't want to purchase it just because it is by the Beckham's, so I didn't.
Thankfully for me I received it as a Christmas present in 2009. At the time Beckham Signature Story for Her had just launched as well so when I received it, it was very new and I was excited to try it.
There is also a Beckham Signature Story for Him, which compliment each other.
The packaging is elegant as you would expect from the Beckham's and I wouldn't expect anything else. The bottle is in a see through rectangle with simply dvd Beckham Signature in black on the front. A touch I do like is at the back of the bottle that you can see from the front. The back sees a frosted white coating with different words on in elegant writing, because the perfume is peach coloured the front frosted part also gives of a peach colour giving it a very girly feel. It gives the perfume a lovely edge, which I haven't really seen on other fragrances.
The base of the white spray is chrome as is the lid with dvb on the top; the lid securely pops back down into place.
The heart notes to this fragrance include; White Peony and Orange Blossom. White Peony is a beautiful white flower, which is highly fragranced and Orange Blossom is a flower that blooms before the orange fruit emerges on the tree.
The scent of these two gives off a sweet, floral and almost tropical smell.
Top notes include; Peach, Bitter Orange and Kumquat. Peach gives the fragrance its fruity aroma, Bitter Orange is citrus and Kumquat is a slow growing shrub and is sweetly fragranced with a hint of sour.
Base notes include; Musk, Patchouli and Moss. Musk is a popular scent that is used in a lot of fragrances and body sprays. Patchouli is most known as a powerful, mossy, heavy and strong musty fragrance. Patchouli is a bushy herb, which comes from the mint family. It has small pink and white flowers.
Moss are small, soft plants, which grow together in clumps in damp locations, which is more of a musky smell.
Spraying the fragrance straight away you can smell the highly fragranced orange blossom, which is powerful and quite sharp. It smells very girly, elegant and fruity.
As the scent dies down a tropical scent comes though, while staying feminine and floral. It does smell a little sour but I would say more citrus and sweet.
Unfortunately it doesn't take long for the base notes to come through with a musky scent, but on a good note peach is a distinctive scent that always stays within the fragrance that is in the top note as well as staying floral, elegant and tropical.
With this fragrance I am disappointed at how quickly the heart notes fade, I would say it lasted 15 minutes. It goes from a powerful floral, fresh fragrance to a light scent that sometimes you have to really sniff at to smell it but it does last for a few hours.
It is a fragrance that can be worn day or night.
Although this is a lovely fragrance to look at and smell I am disappointed with how long it lasts, as it is a Beckham perfume I really expected more and I don't know if I would re-purchase, which is what I thought I would do initially.
Because of my experience with Beckham Signature Story for Her and the celebrity side of things, it still does matter to me which celebrity is endorsing a particular perfume, for instance I wouldn't purchase a fragrance from a celebrity who I don't like as they get a cut from each fragrance sold.
Beckham Signature Story for Her can be purchased for £11.45 for a 30ml bottle RRP on this is £23.50 (which I have), which also comes with a body lotion, you can get it from cheapsmells.com.
