Davidoff Cool Water Woman Ice Fresh Eau de Toilette
Advantages: Ideal for summer as the fragrance is both refreshing and comforting
Disadvantages: Eau de toilette is a bit weak meaning the fragrance doesn't last long, can be hard to find now
I am a huge fan of Davidoff's Cool Water Woman fragrance - such a huge fan that every year when Davidoff launch a new limited edition summer variant I get rather excited. Cool Water Woman is a fragrance that I associate with summer anyway but I am always interested to see what twist they will put on the original scent.
In 2010 the variant was entitled "Ice Fresh" and I am not ashamed to admit I bought this at the Duty Free shop at the airport within days of it being released as I headed off on a trip to Spain. Two years on my bottle has about a third of the 100 ml remaining and I will try to track down a replacement because I love it so.
~~Bottle and Notes~~
The bottle for Cool Water Woman Ice Fresh is almost identical to the bottle you get for regular Cool Water Woman - an almost teardrop shape with a long neck which tapers out for a wider bottom. Instead of being clearly transparent the glass has been given a frosted effect, with the words "Ice Fresh" embossed into the glass giving it a nicely cool appearance.
The top notes are melon, pineapple and mint, with middle notes of sea water, violet and jasmine. The base notes are amber and wood.
Although I have owned this fragrance for two years now, it is the first one I gravitate towards whenever the sun shines. As the weather has been so pleasant over the past few days I have worn it as a matter of course.
The top notes of melon and pineapple are not immediately evident when I apply Cool Water Woman Ice Fresh. The mint is far more predominant, giving an earthy aroma. The melon and pineapple add a sweetness to the mix but not overpoweringly so.
The heart of sea water, violet and jasmine would suggest something far more floral but I find the sea water is what dominates the fragrance at this stage, giving a refreshing and light aroma. I love sea water in a fragrance and Davidoff use it to great effect in the Cool Water range and it doesn't let me down in Ice Fresh.
The base notes of amber and wood round off Cool Water Woman Ice Fresh beautifully, adding a sense of comfort to what is overall a refreshing and light fragrance, giving me a sense of being held in a reassuring embrace with an old friend.
My biggest gripe with this eau de toilette is the fact it really doesn't have much in the way of staying power at all, and despite hunting for an eau de parfum I couldn't find one in this variant. If I apply this in the morning - and I apply it liberally - by lunchtime it needs topping up again. I do wonder if the lack of staying power has something to do with the overall subtlety of the fragrance but it is an annoyance.
A further annoyance is of course the fact that this is no longer widely available, something that continues to irk me as I see Cool Water Woman Wave continue to fill the shelves despite easily being the most disappointing of Davidoff's variants of late. It is available online, retailing at £32.05 on Amazon but you will have to hunt. I do plan on buying another bottle as I definitely prefer the Ice Fresh variant to last year's Summer Dive but being the cautious sort shall wait to see what Davidoff release for summer 2012.
Overall this is a lovely, light fragrance which is perfect summer as it both refreshes and comforts in equal measure - I just wish it stuck around a little longer.
Summary: Beautiful summer fragrance from Davidoff
