Demeter Fragrances offer a range of everyday scents which are said to be designed to reflect how a child would smell them. All of their scents contain a singular scent note of a familiar smell but the different scents can be mixed and matched to form layered scents. There are over 250 scents in the fragrance library and one to appeal to all including Apple Pie, Christmas Tree, Condensed Milk, Green Tomato etc.
~Vanilla Cake Batter~
The range of sweet scents that Demeter offer is quite extensive but my review will focus on Vanilla Cake Batter. These scents are made with 95% natural ingredients and there is no artificial colours or emulsifiers present. Vanilla Cake Batter is said to replicate the smell of the batter or cake mix when in the bowl and before it is cooked. Other vanilla variations include ice cream and cookie dough - yum!
There are other products available in this scent including a roll on perfume, massage oil, body lotion, room spray and a diffuser oil.
The design of the packaging will vary depending on which size of bottle you purchase. My bottle is a 30ml 'pick me up' cologne spray bottle but you can also purchase a smaller 'splash' bottle. The bottle design is very simple yet practical. The bottle is made from clear, thick glass with a long, silver lid concealing the spray. A simple label adorns the front giving the product information. I find this size practical for carrying around in my handbag.
~Where To Buy~
The largest range of Demeter Fragrance scents can be found on their website www.demeterfragrance.com. They are based outside of the UK but do ship here at a cost of $40.00. Within the UK, the range is a little more limited but Vanilla Cake Batter can be found on Amazon in a 120ml sized bottle for £27.99. It is cheaper on eBay - £12.99 for a 30ml bottle and £24.99 for a 120ml bottle. The other Demeter scents start from £3.00 for 15ml on eBay - always buy from a genuine seller.
My sister is addicted to the Demeter Fragrance range and recently treated me to a bottle of Vanilla Cake Batter as she knew I would love it. This range of scents is excellent in my opinion and if like me, you have a favourite childhood scent, you are likely to find a scent that appeals. I believe they are unisex too! I have tried a number of Demeter scents so far including Scottish Shortbread (yum), Crayon (this is very realistic) and a few others. When my sisters last package arrived, we spent a good amount of time doing a blind sniff test to see what scents we could detect and it was so much fun!
I don't wear this scent daily as I have other perfumes that I alternate between. I do, however, like to spray this on when I am feeling low as it immediately transports me back to a happy time in my childhood and therefore cheers me up no end. The cologne spray is clear and sprays beautifully out of the simple glass container. It sits well on my skin and dries quickly with no irritation. It is very light and gentle on my skin and I tend to spray it onto my neck and my wrists as well as a quick spray across my clothing to enhance the scent further.
I must say that this is by far my favourite scent that I have tried in the Demeter range. I love sweet smells and this just ticks all the boxes for me. It is quite a strong smell at first but never gives off that awful alcohol tinge that cheaper scents often do. The intended scent of Vanilla Cake Batter starts to develop really quickly and I must say - it is absolutely gorgeous and very realistic!
The first time I tried it I was dubious as I couldn't really understand how they could capture the scent of eggs, flour, sugar and vanilla in a scent - it doesn't seem right or normal but it works and that is the beauty of this scent and the Demeter range in general. The initial scent is that of pure, sweet vanilla. It smells perfectly natural and in its raw form - not synthetic or sickly at all. Within minutes, the vanilla mingles with the other 'ingredients' and this results in a gorgeous unbaked cakey aroma with is simple mouthwatering. The ingredients are well binded so no eggy smell but simply a treat of sweet and sugary, slightly warm and delicious vanilla scent. It smells extremely realistic and just takes me back to Saturday afternoon baking with my Gran - vanilla sponges or fairy cakes. I loved licking the remaining contents of the bowl so this is a trip down memory lane for me!
The scent remains quite strong on my skin for an hour or two and when I have sprayed it on myself before guests arrive at my home and they walk past me, they have commented if I was baking as it does smell so scrumptuous! I find that it is a scent form of Yankee Vanilla Cupcake (which is one of my favourite Yankee scents) and it lifts my mood. Unfortuantely, the scent doesn't last forever and after three hours or so, it is no more than a whisper of vanilla on my skin. It is easy to top up though and I can happily wear this all day without feeling sick from the sweetness. It does make me peckish at times. I often spray a little of this on my pillow at bedtime as I find it to be a relaxing scent. I would wear it at any time but it is lovely to use in the evening.
Would I recommend Vanilla Cake Batter? Without a doubt! It is a fun, comforting scent that has the ability to bring my mood from rubbish to content in two sprays. If you love the smell of vanilla then you are likely to appreciate this but it may be too sweet for some. I find it to be a delicious, heartwarming scent that is so unusual and unique. It is more expensive than the other Demeter scents when bought from eBay and I do believe it is one of Demeters best sellers so buy it while you can!
It would make a lovely gift as would the other Demeter scents as you can match them to the receivers favourite scents.
Thanks for reading :)
