This is one of those perfumes that have really confused me. I had an idea of what I thought this one smelt like before I tried it. I thought it would be an earthy, musky scent, but instead, initially it was a very sweet fruity scent, but this soon faded into something warmer and more like what I was expecting initially.
About the Brand
Diesel are best known for their denim, but there have been a few perfumes/aftershaves released by the brand as well. Diesel was founded in 1978 by Renzo Rosso and his mentor Adriano Goldschmied. In 2007 L'Oreal and Diesel launched Fuel for Life (for him and for her) together, and there have been more fragrances released since such as Loverdose and Only the Brave.
The perfume itself
The packaging on this perfume is fairly simple. The bottle comes in a lacy bag, which is a nice touch, but once you take it out of the pouch, the packaging is very minimal, a curvy glass bottle with just the name in gold letters and some basic information. There is a 'warning' on the bottle which says to use with caution, but since nothing out of the ordinary has happened since I started using this, I can't vouch for this warning.
Fuel for Life is inspired by Venetian liquor and contains flashes of blackcurrant and jasmine, blended with citrus followed up with waves of dry wood and patchouli.
The heart notes of this perfume are Raspberry and Heliotrope, a purply pink flower that smells slightly like cherry pie.
The top notes are Star Anise and Grapefruit
The base notes are Patchouli and Dry Wood
As I said before, the fresh burst if this is something very, almost sickly sweet, but this quickly fades. Initially I thought it was a little too sweet for me, but it fades into something deeper and nicer after a few seconds. I have also found that after a few times using of this, the initial sweetness isn't quite as overpowering (maybe I've just got more used to the scent?) and I have found that I am drawn to this perfume rather than some of the others on my dressing table.
What do I think of this perfume?
I do like this perfume, but I feel it fades too quickly. I find this scent only lasts around two hours before I need to reapply it. Therefore, I find that I have to carry this around with me if I want to keep the scent throughout the day, so I have knocked one star off for the longevity.
Price and availability
This is available for around £40 for the 30ml, £50 for the 50ml and £60 for the 75ml which is slightly more expensive than some other brands on the market. It is available from all leading chemists and perfume retailers, and also from Diesel stores. The cheapest I have found this fragrance was £25 for 30ml from Superdrug online.
Fuel For Life was created by Diesel a few years ago and it is designed to be a fragrance that is sexy yet sophisticated. It comes with the slogan 'Use With Caution' and has the tagline, 'Are You Alive?' The fragrance is supposed to portray longevity and life long passion that will leave you energised and ready to go. A fragrance has also been created for men which goes by the same name and several special editions have also been released over the years.
One of the top notes of this fragrance is Pink Pepper which is created using the spices from dried berries and gives the perfume a definite warmth. This aroma is accompanied by the citrus blast of the Mandarin.
The heart of this fragrance is created using the sweet and fruit aroma of the Blackcurrant. This fruit is joined by the scent of the gentle Jasmine flower which brings further sweetness to this perfume.
The bottom notes give a further warmth to the depth of the perfume. Beginning with Patchouli, the fragrance has a pungent, earthiness which is created by the herb and is made deeper still by the addition musk.
Packaging and Price
The glass of the bottle comes encased with a soft material that is covered in holes and wrap around the bottle like a warm woolly jumper. The material around mine started getting tatty from being carried around in my handbag so I took it off and it left behind a fairly boring bottle. The men's fragrance comes packaged in a similar way except theirs is wrapped in a brown cloth.
The bottle itself is a completely average and boring shape with only a few plain gold words printed on the front. The bottle is transparent and you can see the pale golden liquid inside. When you remove the shiny gold lid, you reveal the golden dispenser which you push to release the fragrance.
The fragrance will cost around £30 for a 30ml bottle. It is also available in 50ml bottles and costs around £36 so this is obviously the more economical choice. A larger 75ml bottle is also available. The fragrance can be bought from large department stores such as Boots, from fragrance stores and many online websites so if you shop around, you may find it for cheaper.
When you push the dispenser once, a fair amount of the product is released. It is released as a fine mist so won't shoot out and stain your clothes or soak you, as long as you don't hold the bottle too close to you before spraying. The perfume is not strong or over powering so you may need a few squirts to get the right level of fragrance.
When I initially spray this fragrance, the overriding aroma is that of fruitiness. The blackcurrant is extremely evident and the presence of Manderin is strongly felt. The fragrance has an intense sweetness that is almost sugary and better suited to a teenager.
If you bear with the perfume however, after a few minutes an obvious warmth is created by the fragrance that makes it a pleasure to wear. The spice of the Pink Pepper starts to shine through giving the fragrance more class and sophistication. I am not a fan of spicy perfumes but this one is so subtle and delicate that I enjoy wearing it. It smells more like aniseed than some of the more stronger spices.
The fragrance is obviously there but is not too strong or offensive. It is one of those fragrances that you wear rather than it wearing you. It can get sickly if you go completely overboard with the application but you quickly learn the right amount for you.
I would say this fragrance is more a day fragrance than a night one but it is really suitable for both. It could be worn subtly for work and then layered on for a night out with the girls. It is a sophisticated fragrance that still has an edge of fun and rebellion to it. I think this perfume is better suited to be worn in the winter because I don't find it refreshing enough in the summer months.
The fragrance is fairly long lasting on the skin although it does start to become weaker and fade after a few hours but it never completely disappears. You may feel that a reapplication is necessary if you are moving from work to meet friends and you want to smell nice.
All in all, this fragrance is both sweet and spicy. It is somewhere between classy and fun and can be worn day and night. It isn't overpowering but it is obviously there, yet shouldn't be offensive to those around you. If you really don't like sweet things, this won't be for you but I think this is one of those middle of the board fragrances that the majority of people would like.
This a perfume that I remember my mother getting for Christmas one year. She didn't wear it a lot, so i'd usually borrow it every now and then. At the time I was about 14, and my mother was 40. I also believe my 68 year old grandmother has worn it on occasion.
It's definitely a perfume that doesn't have an 'age limit'. You often hear people say 'oh no, that's an old womans perfume' or 'I couldn't get away with wearing that i'm too old', but in this case, Diesel: Fuel For Life is not one of those perfumes. It's got quite a strong scent, but it's not over powering.
I'm trying to find a way to describe the scent, but I guess it would be quite fresh, and "pretty". It's very feminine and i'd personally save it for a 'going out' perfume and not an every day perfume.
I have to say, it also last very long. Considering i've had the perfume for 5 years or so, i'm only a quarter of the way through the bottle and I do use it when going out.
If I were to recommend any perfume to friends or family it would no doubt be this perfume, as it makes me feel great when i'm wearing it.
I'm a huge perfume fan and come Christmas I can regularly be found in Boots scanning the shelves for gift set bargains. A couple of years ago when I was on such a hunt I came across Diesel Fuel for Life and I have continued to buy it ever since.
Diesel Fuel for Life comes in quite a plain and simple bottle. However, the writing and the top are gold which although quite traditional adds a bit of interest to it. Diesel have tried to make the bottle more interesting by adding a cream coloured netting over the top. This can be stretched to cover the whole bottle or be left to cover around half of it. Although the bottle isn't particularly pretty the net definitely makes it more interesting and it does look good sitting on my chest of drawers with all my other bottles.
When you first spray this it does seem strong, so if you were looking to test this make sure you are gentle with it! I remember when I tried the tester in Boots I had to walk around the shop a few times to let it calm down. This is a really good thing because you don't have to use lots meaning that the bottle will last a long time. The initial smell is quite musky but you can definitely make out jasmine and something fruity, though this does dissapear quite quickly. This smell is meant to be mandarin but I can't quite make it out. The smell is very sweet and I love perfumes like this. However, I think a lot of people may find this a little too sickly.
I think that the smell of this is definitely better when it settles down. It becomes much more musky and does smell quite sexy. It also lasts ages even with just a couple of squirts and although I do like to top my perfumes up I know I don't have to with this one. Again this is great in making sure you don't run out too quickly. This is a perfect perfume for a night out and although can be worn in the day during Winter, I find it's a little too much for the Summer.
I would recommend this perfume if you generally like quite strong and sweet perfumes. However, unless it's on offer I wouldn't recommend buying this from Boots as it is quite expensive at £28.00 for a 30ml bottle. However if you look around online you should be able to find it much cheaper. On Amazon the 30ml bottle can be bought for around £15.00 which is a bargain considering how long it lasts. If you like to make your perfume stronger and last even longer (which isn't really needed with this one) then you can also buy Fuel for Life shower gel and body lotion.
I chose this perfume for a Christmas present last year because I love the strong scent. Don't get me wrong, it's not at all overpowering, but it has a great, slightly musky scent which is very sexy. I did get this in winter and it is definitely a fragrance more suited to that time of year (in my world at least!) and I love wearing it for going out or when I need an extra confidence boost. Something about the smell always makes me stand a little taller.
The bottle is a nice, simple design, not as eye catching as some others although the lace is a nice touch on some bottles. I got mine as part of a gift set and so the lace was not on it. However the lid is very secure and I've never had any handbag spillage issues. I always worry that perfume bottles will smash if I drop my bag and this bottle in particular I have always felt seems a little less sturdy than others, but I have dropped it plenty of times and it's still intact.
Overall a great fragrance which lasts for ages and is very alluring. One of my favourites out there at the moment and a really fantastic price for how it smells.
Diesel Fuel For Life Eau De Parfum Pour Femme......
I will often try out new perfumes when in Boots just to see if there is a fragrance I particularly like but on this occasion I bought this perfume on a total spur of the moment in the tiny Lloyds Pharmacy which is linked to the Doctors where it work.
It was priced up at £35.50p which I thought slightly expensive but I do get a 20% discount on top of that so it worked out a little bit cheaper and after checking on line the price I paid wasn't especially high seeing as I had bought the larger sized 50ml bottle.
There was no tester in the pharmacy and although it was a fragrance I had seen a lot it was not one I had actually smelt before. So feeling like I needed a bit of a pick me up on that particular day I bought it with only a moment's hesitation. The bottle of perfume comes inside a cardboard box and that box was wrapper in a clear cellophane which meant no one had sprayed this perfume so I knew I was getting a full bottle! The cardboard box packaging was okay but nothing overly special it has the design of an old parcel wrapped in strong and with an old style parcel label attached to it. It gives all the necessary information such as what is contained within the box and the ingredients of the perfume itself.
On opening the box and pulling out the perfume bottle I am pretty disappointed as the bottle design is very basic is a sort of oval shape with a gold pull off lid covering the spray pump. That is pretty much it as there is not much of a design to it and the only thing that would set this bottle apart from a cheap one would be the rather bizarre lace cover that is supplied with the bottle. This is stretched over the bottle and can be taken off easily. For me this isn't overly inspiring and I would say the overall design of the bottle is very poor.
Okay so on to the main part of the perfume and again I was not really impressed. At first I started by just spraying one small squirt onto my wrist as I hadn't smelt it before I wanted to be a bit cautious. The smell was very strong and I was right to be careful. The one spray that I had put on my wrist seemed as though I had given three times the squirts and I couldn't believe how strong in scent it was. The scent itself was very strange and not at all what I was expecting. It is very spicy and highly fragranced with Jasmine. The overall smell of the perfume is a very deep and dark one. To me at first it smelt like a slightly old ladies perfume but since the first spray I have somewhat grown to it or at least warmed slightly.
It is not at all a fragrance I would normally go for and it is perhaps more of a winter fragrance than a summer one although I suspect it would be okay to wear on an evening out. Since looking it up on the internet I can see that it is supposed to be extremely strong and should be used "with Caution" as it is double strength. So of course a little bit of this perfume certainly does go a long way.
One spray does indeed last all day so not only is it strong when first applied but it does have a good amount of staying power too!
It is not a perfume I use on a regular basis and is there when I get bored of my more preferred perfumes and I can't say that I would ever think about buying it again. Of course spening all that money on it really does mean that I will have to keep using it until it has all been used up but again it really is not one of my favourites.
I think a score of 2 out 5 stars is what this product is lucky to get. It is not one for me but perhaps would suit a lot of people who prefer a more long lasting and mustier fragrance. Sorry but no recommendation from me this time!
Many thanks for taking the time to read
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
Use with caution..
This is the Diesel Fuel for Life Femme (for her) perfume. It is a fairly recent release perfume and there are male variations available. Diesel describe this perfume as being "deeply seductive and criminally attractive". They state that this perfume has passionate flashes of blackcurrant and jasmine.
The perfume I have came as part of a giftset. The bottle itself is rounded and fairly wide across though narrow around the sides. The bottle is clear and the only information on it is the brand name, perfume name, size of bottle and the words "use with caution". These details are in gold writing. There is a gold pull off cap which reveals a gold spray device built into the perfume. The bottle itself is very basic and not very attractive though Diesel have provides a creamy net effect cover. It is not white as in the catalogue photograph. This is easily removed though it does make the bottle appear pretty and can prevent it from being scratched in your handbag.
*Availability and Price*
Diesel is stocked in the likes of Boots and Superdrug. I purchased mine in a gift set in Superdrug which contained a 50ml perfume and a 200ml shower gel in a pretty box. I bought it in the blue cross sale which meant it was reduced from £25 down to just £12.50. Current Boots prices as follows :
Wish I had picked up another set now! Online retailers such as Amazon and Ebay sell this perfume too!
Ok I am not an expert at picking up notes in perfumes so I am only going to give you my opinion.
As I said before, I bought this as part of a set. The immediate attraction was to the lovely cream and gold box the set came in and the fact it was only £12.50. There was a tester so as you do, I sprayed a little on my arm and walked around the store to let it settle.
The first scent you pick up on spraying is the jasmine and its quite strong to begin with. Once the perfume has settled on your skin, it becomes more fruity which I can only imagine is the blackcurrant floating through. I haven't smell anything like this perfume before and it is certainly not the normal type for me to pick but I really liked it.
The bottle is attractive and the little net cover just makes it pretty in my eyes. I won't use the shower gel though as I always come out in a rash with perfumed shower gels.
As for long lasting - I have finally found a fragrance that I like and that a small amount lasts on my skin for several hours. This means I am less likely to run out as quick as with other fragrances. I feel this perfume has an excellent combination of sweetness and floral so that it is not overpowering on either of them.
Everyone is different but if you are looking for a scent for work or for a night out then I would recommend getting down to your local stockist for a tester to see if it suits you.
Thanks for reading
Now this is another one of my favourite scents. Bought as a present for 2 years in a row as I always use it all up.
In my mind it smells like tiny sweet nectar soaked flowers and honeysuckle. the official diesel description is : inspired by Venetian liquor and contains passionate flashes of blackcurrant and jasmine, blended with the colourful irreverence of mandarin and mysterious waves of vetiver and patchouli.
So maybe I have a good imagination? But anyway, this scent is quite light and quite grown up. I used to wear it quite well when there was formal dress code in the office.
Really the age range is probally twenties upwards, It's not a really young scent. The scent seems to fade quite quickly, but I find that most of the diesel feminine perfumes do this. It's quite cheap though, and often you can purchase a gift set which contains a small tube of matching body lotion and showergel. The body lotion scent seems to last for the whole day, it is much warmer and softer then the eau de parfume
Now i know most people might want to say it's borderline sad haveing matching his and her fragrences but since this particular line of Diesil fragrence launched i'd have to disagree. I was given this fragrence for Christmas after a series of -ahem-very subtle hints.
I'm constantly tired of whimsicle chavy scents and bottled celebrities. When i'm after a fragrence i don't was to smell of a sweetly sick sweet shop. And i don't want to smell like the alcohol section of the supermarked leaked onto my clothing and it's safe to say when they manufactured Fuel For Life they captured the perfect blend of none fo those things.
Since this scent became my most commonly used perfume i've heard the phrase 'you smell nice. What are you wearing?' being said my way more than once.
Would i recomend this perfume?
WOULD I EVER.
But ofcourse be sure to try it on on yourself before purchase because odours change on different people once they've made contact with the skin.
I'm not quite the scientist so I couldn't explain exactly why this happens. But take it from me it does it's the first thing the lady that works in the perfume section is going to want to tell you.
And as i previously made reference there's a men's version aswell.
So if you decide to go with this scent your other half can smell just as sexy as you. ;D
Usually Im not one to like floral perfumes and this one is admittedley quite floral in scent buts its also pretty unique. It has a sweet fresh smell with notes of blackcurrant, pachouli and jasmine - which though sweet are also quite seductive in a way. The scent of the perfume lingers all day which is a real bonus as there is nothing more annoying than having to respray all the time! it also lingers on clothes even loinger so sometimes i like to spray it on my clothes as well!
I really liked the packaging which the perfume came in, though people i've spoke to didn't. It's designed like a parcel wrapped in brown paper, with an address label stuck on, i thought it was cool!! The bottle is presented in a lace pouch, kind of like a little dress ont he glass bottle which is cool but slide off the bottle when spraying it.
I recommend this perfume to anyone looking for a long lasting scent with sweet and seductive undertones!
It's another unphotogenic perfume bottle... it almost looks hideous in the photo.
The first spray I had of Diesel's Fuel for Life I was struck by how original it smelt. It reminded me of strength, dreaminess and vision... how? I really don't know! But that's what struck me. Without looking I definitely knew it was a female fragrance.
The second time I sprayed it it was far too much - it began to become dominating, overpowering and almost intimidating. I felt as if I'd been transported into some cigar room full of old men.
How's that for the magic of scent for you? One spray too much and you turn what was an attractive female strength of character into a masculine characteristic.
That is how Fuel for Life operates... I eventually decided to buy it but I don't wear it because it doesn't suit my personality, but I find it inspiring. I spray it in my room and it gives me a sense of strength and reassurance. However, some days the smell confuses me and I start to think I've picked up some man's aftershave.
I've been learning how to use scent as a pick me up, but this is really different. I've never smelt a female fragrance that gives this kind of 'assurance' and 'strength of character'... it's like a woman exec puffing up cigar smoke in the boardroom... wearing granny chic suits and crochet stockings with the latest platform heels... ready to beat the rush home on her new Harley Davidson and her biker leathers in her briefcase.
I actually didn't quite know what to expect before my first spritz, as I am usually not impressed by many mainstream fragrances. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The Fuel For Life fragrance for women is in the "woody" category for its crispness and warmth which tones down to be powdery and soft. The women's perfume has notes of mandarin, pink pepper, jasmine, patchouli, blackcurrant, raspberry, and musk. This fragrance definitely has a touch of flirtiness and sex appeal, but it's not the womanly sex appeal of spicy or oriental scents. It's more of a young, carefree, sexy that exudes a touch of naughtiness.
The perfume comes in a very distinguishable bottle. It is dressed in a sexy stretchy see-through lace which oozes sex appeal in my opinion. The design is very edgy and different than most fragrance bottles on the market.
With this perfume, a little goes a long way and you save by using a small amount. The fragrance are good for night and day time use and is for someone who has sex appeal and likes to flirt. Someone who wears sexy skinny denim with stilettos and isn't afraid to get decked out for parties and nights out.
I am pretty set in my ways when it comes to perfumes, I have a few that I like and constantly buy but when on a recent shopping trip with my daughter she told me that I simply had to have a bottle of the Diesel Fuel for Life and she proceeded to buy me one. As the bottle and the packaging are clearly marked Femme for female I am assuming that diesel does a male alternative to this but I am unsure.
To be honest at first glance I thought the box looked very boring but when you take a look at the bottle it livens up a bit, the bottle is a round chunky little bottle with a gold lid and what looks like a knitted around it and the lettering "Diesel Fuel for Life. Use with Caution." That would seem like an odd thing to have written on a bottle of perfume but I guess it is just diesel trying to be quirky.
The smell of the perfume is obviously the main thing, I mean a pretty bottle amounts to little if the stuff in it stinks. The scent of this is described as having subtle top notes of mandarin and pink pepper, the mandarin must be subtle because I found no trace of it but as the top notes disappear very quickly I was none too worried by that. The middle notes (the most important ones) are Blackcurrant and jasmine which I find more believable because there is a ripe fruity scent to this perfume with a musky undertone which would fit the blackcurrant and jasmine to perfection.
The base notes ( the ones that will outlast the rest) are patchouli and musk, again this must obviously be where the largely musky tone comes from and you do find that after wearing for a while you are left with pretty much only musk but still a very pleasant scent.
The scent stays with you for around 6 hours after application which is decent for any perfume, the bottle was a 50ml one and cost my daughter £31.50 which seems reasonable value for money and this is now a perfume I will most likely buy again for myself.
I really like this perfume as it is sexy, fresh, soft yet very feminine without being sickly and over powering.
The perfumes notes are described as "passionate flashes of Blackcurrant and Jasmine, colourful irreverence of Mandarin and mysterious waves of Patchouli". I personally think it smells like a rich ice cream with flowers and berries.Very delicious and crisp. This is perfect for day and night in my opinion.
The packaging is not genius or anything special. It is quite plainly a resemblance of a brown paper parcel. The bottle is neat though and easy to handle.
The price is quite good for value if you get a larger bottle.30ml is £24.50, 50ml is £31.50 and 75ml is £34.99 (refrence from thefragranceshop.co.uk).
This is a perfume that would be great as a gift for a friend, sister, daughter, girlfriend, wife ect as it is hard to resist although having read some of the other reviews, it is possibly an acquired taste. If sexy, fresh, soft and very feminine sounds like the lady inmind then you can do no wrong!
i first smelt a sample of this in a magazine and loved it so asked for a bottle for xmas which i got and i have to say i love it as i dont like very sweet scents,im not sure about its wooley jumper, but i have had a fair few different designer perfumes and this comes out as being one of my favs in fact i want another bottle!
Deeply seductive and criminally attractive, 'Fuel For Life' is the bold fragrance for women by Diesel. With passionate flashes of blackcurrant and jasmine, blended with the colourful irreverence of mandarin and mysterious waves of vetiver and patchouli, Diesel 'Fuel For Life' must be used with caution.
