Advantages: Not overpowering and smells lovely

Disadvantages: May be too sweet for some

Fuel For Life was created by Diesel a few years ago and it is designed to be a fragrance that is sexy yet sophisticated. It comes with the slogan 'Use With Caution' and has the tagline, 'Are You Alive?' The fragrance is supposed to portray longevity and life long passion that will leave you energised and ready to go. A fragrance has also been created for men which goes by the same name and several special editions have also been released over the years.

Top Notes
One of the top notes of this fragrance is Pink Pepper which is created using the spices from dried berries and gives the perfume a definite warmth. This aroma is accompanied by the citrus blast of the Mandarin.

Middle Notes
The heart of this fragrance is created using the sweet and fruit aroma of the Blackcurrant. This fruit is joined by the scent of the gentle Jasmine flower which brings further sweetness to this perfume.

Bottom Notes
The bottom notes give a further warmth to the depth of the perfume. Beginning with Patchouli, the fragrance has a pungent, earthiness which is created by the herb and is made deeper still by the addition musk.

Packaging and Price
The glass of the bottle comes encased with a soft material that is covered in holes and wrap around the bottle like a warm woolly jumper. The material around mine started getting tatty from being carried around in my handbag so I took it off and it left behind a fairly boring bottle. The men's fragrance comes packaged in a similar way except theirs is wrapped in a brown cloth.

The bottle itself is a completely average and boring shape with only a few plain gold words printed on the front. The bottle is transparent and you can see the pale golden liquid inside. When you remove the shiny gold lid, you reveal the golden dispenser which you push to release the fragrance.

The fragrance will cost around £30 for a 30ml bottle. It is also available in 50ml bottles and costs around £36 so this is obviously the more economical choice. A larger 75ml bottle is also available. The fragrance can be bought from large department stores such as Boots, from fragrance stores and many online websites so if you shop around, you may find it for cheaper.

Application
When you push the dispenser once, a fair amount of the product is released. It is released as a fine mist so won't shoot out and stain your clothes or soak you, as long as you don't hold the bottle too close to you before spraying. The perfume is not strong or over powering so you may need a few squirts to get the right level of fragrance.

The fragrance
When I initially spray this fragrance, the overriding aroma is that of fruitiness. The blackcurrant is extremely evident and the presence of Manderin is strongly felt. The fragrance has an intense sweetness that is almost sugary and better suited to a teenager.

If you bear with the perfume however, after a few minutes an obvious warmth is created by the fragrance that makes it a pleasure to wear. The spice of the Pink Pepper starts to shine through giving the fragrance more class and sophistication. I am not a fan of spicy perfumes but this one is so subtle and delicate that I enjoy wearing it. It smells more like aniseed than some of the more stronger spices.

The fragrance is obviously there but is not too strong or offensive. It is one of those fragrances that you wear rather than it wearing you. It can get sickly if you go completely overboard with the application but you quickly learn the right amount for you.

I would say this fragrance is more a day fragrance than a night one but it is really suitable for both. It could be worn subtly for work and then layered on for a night out with the girls. It is a sophisticated fragrance that still has an edge of fun and rebellion to it. I think this perfume is better suited to be worn in the winter because I don't find it refreshing enough in the summer months.

The fragrance is fairly long lasting on the skin although it does start to become weaker and fade after a few hours but it never completely disappears. You may feel that a reapplication is necessary if you are moving from work to meet friends and you want to smell nice.

All in all, this fragrance is both sweet and spicy. It is somewhere between classy and fun and can be worn day and night. It isn't overpowering but it is obviously there, yet shouldn't be offensive to those around you. If you really don't like sweet things, this won't be for you but I think this is one of those middle of the board fragrances that the majority of people would like.

Summary: A lovely perfume that is both sweet and spicy
