Loverdose is a fragrance by Diesel that I bought myself from Amazon.co.uk a few weeks ago as I had a voucher and it was a good price.
~ Price and availability ~
I bought a 50ml bottle of the eau de parfum (this also comes as an eau de toilette) direct from Amazon for £29.50.
The 50ml bottle was also on offer at Boots at the same time for £29.50. It usually retails for £38.99 for 50ml.
There is also a larger 75ml bottle available, which is currently on offer from Boots for just £38.50 and a 30ml bottle which is £30.00.
It is available from Boots, Superdrug and most department stores as well as online retailers such as Amazon.
~ Bottle ~
The bottle is made from purple coloured, angled glass.
According to Diesel 'The bottle is symbolically designed to resemble a heart-shaped diamond pierced by an arrow'.
The lid is black and there is a black 'arrow' going from the into the middle of the bottle covering the dispenser tube.
' Loverdose Diesel', is written in small silver lettering on one of the many sides of the bottle.
The bottle is quite pretty.
~ Scent ~
I am usually not a big fan of Diesel scents. I have had three Diesel fragrances over the years and I didn't particularly love any of them. They all tend to be quite masculine or spicy, which is often a bit harsh for me.
The first time I tried Loverdose was about a year and a half ago and I found it harsh and disliked it so never bothered with it again until recently when I was in Boots and I tried a tester on a piece of card to remind myself of how awful it was and I found I actually quite liked it and I took the card with me sniffing it now and again and it started to really grow on me.
Now I love it and find it difficult to see how I ever found it offensive.
Loverdose has top notes of star anise and mandarin.
The heart notes are Sambac jasmine, liquorice and gardenia petals.
The base notes are amber, vanilla and woody notes.
The perfume has a lovely scent of liquorice combined with creamy vanilla. It has a slight sweetness to it, which comes from the liquorice, but it also has a slight harshness to it.
It does smell quite strong when first sprayed.
Having liquorice as one of the main notes, this fragrance reminds me of Lolita Lempicka's perfumes, most of which have liquorice flower as one of their notes and I really like them.
The fragrance has excellent staying power. There is still much more than just a trace of this scent on my skin after 12 hours. It also has good projection and I notice it on myself regularly throughout the day.
I prefer to wear this during the day, but I would consider it for nights out as well. It isn't too heavy for day time wear, but it has enough presence for night timer wear.
I imagine this fragrance is one that would be best suited to younger women in their 20's or 30's. I don't think it would feel out of place on more mature women, but I think this is probably targeted towards younger women and I think the scent would suit younger women more.
I love this fragrance now and I am surprised at how much my opinion has changed about it. I would recommend it, but it is worth trying before you buy!
I'm a huge car fan and also like collecting unusual items so for a present I was bought this as it combines two of my passions. Diesel for the car part and a distinctive bottle for the unusual part. Like they say, it's the thought that counts and a lot of thought was put into this gift.
=== Bottle ===
I love the shape of the bottle as it doesn't stand up like a traditional bottle of perfume. There are many flat edges to the bottle but the 'base' allows it to stand perfectly well at the angle shown in the picture. It is in the shape of a heart and there is a black, plastic part running through the inside of the bottle. This is meant to represent a dagger. There's a smokey purple tint to the fragrance which is highlighted in the glass.
A black lid simply pushes on and off to reveal a silver pump action. One spray is more than enough as it produces a wide mist of the fragrance.
=== Fragrance ===
I've never been good at trying to describe smells ~ I always have an image of Jilly Goolden, the wine 'guru' trying to describe it for some reason.
According to basenotes.net
Star anise, Mandarin
Sambac jasmine, Liquorice, Gardenia (See! Jilly Goolden...."I'm getting essence of liquorice!)
Amber, Vanilla, Woody notes
None of that makes any sense to me but it may to one of you. I prefer to describe it as a light and sweet kind of smell. It's unlike anything I've had before. It certainly is a feminine fragrance and just one squirt lasts the entire day. Obviously fragrances are different for everyone but people have complimented me when wearing this. (New Year's resolution ~ wear perfume everyday.)
=== Price ===
Diesel is a well-known designer brand and as such, often attract a hefty price tag. I was surprised to see that a 30ml bottle (like the one I have) costs around £28.99 from Boots.I find this extremely reasonable for a perfume as a little really does go a long way. If you shop around too I would expect you could find it cheaper too.
You are also able to purchase this in a 50ml bottle (£38.99) and a 75ml bottle. (£48.99) but for me this size is more than adequate.
=== Recommendation ===
I have no problem in giving this 5 stars and recommending it. Would make a lovely gift for someone or indeed, why not treat yourself? It originally came out in 2011 but it is still in production now so there are no problems finding it.
You can also get the same scent in body lotion which I own and love.
I simply adore my fragrances and I get through a lot. There are so many great perfumes out there be it high branded or cheaper options.
Diesel - Loverdose Eau de Parfum:
'Loverdose Eau De Parfum is an addictive oriental perfume. The stunning Loverdose bottle is a heart shaped arrow head representing a beautiful but deadly weapon of seduction'
- www. thefragranceshop.co.uk
When going to purchase some items in my local Superdrug at the counter they always seem to have special offers on. I was drawn to the purple hearted bottle; I like it when things look different to the normal.
So I picked it up and sprayed some on my wrist. Soon as I smelt it I was loving its rich sweet aroma that floated nicely around my nose. It wasn't a sickly sweet at all, more of a warm comforting sweet. So I added this to my shopping, bonus being on offer too! Until a couple of months back I hadn't noticed this before in shops. So now I am happy I found it!
Top Notes: Mandarin Orange, Star Anise
Heart Notes: Jasmine, Gardenia, Licorice
Base Notes: Amber, Vanilla, Woody
Everybody's skin reacts different to scents and for me the notes I can detect the most are star anise, jasmine and amber. Thankfully I don't pick up the licorice as I hate the stuff; it is certainly a deep woody kind of fragrance.
I personally normally go for lighter and fruitier scented products but this one just got me hooked from the start. When I have it on or smell it out and about my mind pops burlesque! It has the rich seductive feel about it. I love how things can make you feel.
For me this is a rather unique kind of sent as I haven't smelt anything like this one before. The longevity of this is pretty much standard I think last mostly around four hours and then mellows out but full time I feel is around six hours max.
When spraying the first few squirts it doesn't choke you like some can, albeit strong when first putting the fragrance on. Once it has been sat on my skin for around an hour that for me is when the jasmine and amber really come into play. I haven't experienced any staining to my clothes, or any skin irritation.
Like I said this will change on other people skin my mom seems to hint more licorice when she steals this! And even though I dislike licorice it still smells gorgeous. I feel this is suited to mid-twenties and above, for me it's a sophisticated, independent and sexy scent!
My over love for this is the awesome looking bottle, it doesn't stand up like a normal perfume bottle as it lies on its side. The smoky purple colour and shapely hearted glass really is a perfect touch and certainly stands out in my collection.
Price and Availability:
I had the 50ml bottle costing me £25.00, normally priced around the £35mark. You can so get the 30ml and 75ml bottles. There is also gift sets with body lotion which I personally wouldn't mind trying.
This is one of my favourite scents of the moment, perfect all round scent which can be used day or night. Price wise I feel is pretty much standard for a higher end brands, it lasts well, and smells just divine. I love it! I fully recommend this one ladies.
After this I will look forward to trying other Diesel products.
Five out of five stars from me.
Thank you for reading.
I'll be the first to admit, I didn't expect to be keen on this fragrance at all. The marketing didn't appeal to me, coming off as just a tad tacky, and the blurb about having 'hypothalmus stimulating molecules' really did have me rolling my eyes. The bottle is nice, although looks a little too like it belongs with Vera Wangs fragrances, and it was only on the grounds of having another vaguely interesting bottle on my shelf that I gave this a try, not expecting much.
On first spraying, Loverdose doesn't smell like anything special. After the instant 'chemical' smell fades away, the best way I could describe the initial scent would be 'nice'. Just nice; not great, but certainly not awful. It starts out quite sweet, with a generally warm scent. But then comes liquorice- and there we have what made me change my mind about this fragrance.
It's a strong scent, almost 'sherbetty' against the soft vanilla tones, and completely makes this perfume for me. As for lasting power, after sitting on the skin for an hour or two, it does mellow down, smelling almost like star anise, but I love that initial liquorice burst, so I reapply frequently. Your mileage may vary, but I've found I can't really trace the scent on my skin after the five hour mark, but it lasts well on my clothing. The sillage is minimal, for me, with the fragrance staying close to the skin- I particularly like that, as I'm not keen on my perfume entering a room before I do!
Overall, this scent may not be the most innovative or exciting release, but for a perfume I was expecting to out-and-out dislike, it's snuck up on me, and I find myself reaching for it often.
I'm quite fussy when it comes to perfumes, so much so that I tend to stick to the same one! However last Christmas my Mum bought me Diesel Loverdose for a change.....and much to my surprise I absolutely love it. As for the perfume itself, I've found that it's not too overpowering yet stays on your skin/clothes for the duration of your day/night out. It seems to be described as smelling of vanilla and liquorice, which I would say is pretty accurate. Also it comes in a pretty cool heart shaped bottle, now, I know that the looks of the bottle aren't everything (should be more about the scent!) however as someone in their early 20's it's a pretty trendy looking bottle to have on your bedside cabinet and makes for a lovely looking present. Overall, I'd say that the look and style of it seems to come across as being very much aimed at the teen market, however I urge everyone to give it a try.....or at least have a spray of it on your wrist the next time you pass a perfume shop. You won't be disappointed!
I'd never had an interest in this perfume as I personally thought the bottle looked like it was aimed at younger teenage age group and looks cheap but I got a free sample in my 'welcome to student halls' pack provided in my room when I moved in. As I only have a sample I can not give a full review of the bottle but I have seen it advertised in magazines and seen it in shops too. The bottle is clears and shows the purply pink coloured perfume inside. It is heart shaped but cut in a way that reminds me of how diamonds are cut, the bottle lies on its side which makes it look much more interesting and would like nice on a shelf or dressing table. The spray part comes out of the dip in the top of the heart and is black and silver. I imagine a smaller sized bottle would be easy to carry around in your bag too but I feel a larger size might be a bit too bulky.
The smell of the Loverdose is pleasant, very warm and musky, if I had smelt it in a shop I doubt I would have bought it as I do not love the smell enough to buy it but seeing as I got my sample for free and I don't entirely hate it, I still wear it. The main smells are vanilla, liquorice, mandarin, star anise and dry woods. I am only familiar with what the first two smell like but it all smells great together. It's a very warm, musky scent and is more of a night time smell than a day smell as it's quite heavy but sweet smell, definitely a sexy smell!
The perfume is described as 'Loverdose is the sexy & addictive fragrance from Diesel. It represents a woman who is sexy, playful and irresistible. She receives an overdose of love from those around her, but she wants more. She desires pleasure, adrenaline & passion.' I have to say although I am not overly keen on the smell, I do agree with it being sexy and addictive. I think the sexy part is the vanilla and the addictive part is the liquorice, which seems quite an odd ingredient in a perfume if you ask me but it does work! The smell is very long lasting and I can smell it pretty much all day with only a spritz or two around my neck and one for my wrists. It is a little spray on first application but calms down to a deep, sexy smell.
I would definitely recommend this perfume, but not to people who like light fruity smells as this is more musky floral scent. It is also very fairly priced for a designer label at a little over £30 for the 30ml bottle and just under £50 for the 50ml size.
~*~*~ Diesel - Loverdose ~*~*~
~*~*~ What is it? ~*~*~
This is one of my total favourite fragrances and it is by Diesel, over the years I have noticed that Diesel had introduced some of the more cheaper scents available on the market but when I saw this advertised it was another that I fell in love with, the bottle just really captured me.
It is described by Diesel as -
A spellbinding essence that makes the woman who wears it irresistible, and the man who comes near her fall madly in love... A new, subversive, unexpected women's perfume. A true DIESEL signature.
~*~*~ The Bottle ~*~*~
Well as I have already said it was the bottle that initially captured me, I loved the look of the bottle then and I still love it now. The bottle is a clever diamond cut amethyst coloured glass heart with a black dagger piercing the center. Due to the irregular shape the bottle cannot stand in an upright position, it can however stand in three different ways, all sideways but it does look amazing!
It is such a creative design and it was my initial reason for wanting it and I am pleased to say that not only do I like the bottle but I also love the perfume inside too!
~*~*~ The Price ~*~*~
I have had a quick look on line and found the following prices -
www.semichem.co.uk - 30ml £32.99 ~ 50ml £46.99
Superdrug - 30ml £34.99 ~ 50ml £47.50
Debenhams - 30ml £36.00 ~ 50ml £48.50 ~ 75ml £59.50 ~ 30ml gift set £36.00
With Christmas coming up it would be worth holding out a while as it may go on offer in a few places.
~*~*~ The Scent ~*~*~
Oh wow, incredible! I really adore this scent. The sweetness of the licorice blends so well with the vanilla and gives this a warm delightful scent. The opening notes are fairly strong and I am guessing that is the star anise, I love the warmness of this scent. It has a thick sweetness about it that I just really enjoy. This is my preferred night out scent as I find it lasts so well, it is an amazingly sexy scent and I always feel rather special with this on.
It always attracts comments when people notice a waft of the sweet warm scent. Amazing!
The notes in this perfume are ~
Top Notes - Mandarin Orange, Star Anise.
Middle Notes - Jasmine, Gardenia, Licorice.
Base Notes - Amber, Vanilla, Woodsy notes.
~*~*~ Overall ~*~*~
Well this is down on my Christmas list for Santa! I am running quite low on this at the moment and I am not impressed!
This is in my top three favourites and I wear it quite a lot, it is one I mainly choose on a night out as it has excellent staying power. The initial sweet spiciness stays with me for a while and then gives way to a warm licorice vanilla scent, I just really find it incredible. I have loved this from the first moment I ever tried it and my love has never waned.
A rumor has it that due to the presence of secret Molecule A, the formula's alchemy causes an addiction to absolute love, extreme passion and an irrational, uncontrollable enflaming of the senses.
Now I am not sure about that but it certainly gets comments, I have never had anyone say it's a nasty smell, only how 'Lush' it is!
Needless to say I adore it, and have nothing bad at all to say about it.
Thanks for reading :o) x
I will begin by saying, I'm not a massive perfume fan. I find a lot of them give me a headache or make me sneeze, perhaps an allergic reaction? I'm not sure. I got this perfume as a gift from my boyfriend about six months ago and instantly fell in love. It is a fresh, young fragrance. I've seen it in Boots for around £35 for a 35ml bottle, which is reasonable for a designer perfume (and you get the Boots points too). It's not too strong which is great for me but I've got loads of compliments when wearing it. It's not too weak either, like some body sprays. I really do enjoy wearing it, just a couple of spritzes and I'm ready to go, I always spray a bit in my hair too as it seems to stay longer. Finally, it looks so lovely on my dressing table, it sits on it's side in a beautiful purple heart shaped bottle. I do find describing smells quite difficult so what I will say is it reminds me of DKNY apple, the red one, if anyone remembers that.
Perfume and I...a love story x
My name is Anna Louise. My favourite of my senses is smell... I know-what a curious and verging on the ridiculous thing to say I hear some doubters saying! ...But if you do understand me, you know what a thrill a fragrance can be. Its really inexplicable to me how just a concoction of fragrant notes can create hugely different and amazing fragrances to suit every occasion, mood, and create or add to memories, but ohhhhh they can! Hey I'll tell you now I know nothing technical about perfume, its creation nor production I only know what I like...
Well lets start here...
I was introduced to Loverdose last year and I was so glad I was. Thanks to my lovely sister! We have a love affair with a certain high street Health and Beauty store...you know...the best one, both of us having worked in our local branch for several years. Well lucky Katy was invited to a Fragrance roadshow...just prior to the Loverdose launch. There was a Loverdose filled room with glitz and glam, sparkle and shine, and it smelt tremendous so I am told. The first I knew she came home with a bottle of the stuff...it was love at first sight and smell. Firstly I've always been a bit of a girly girl and love a bit of hearts and romance, and my favourite colour is purple so it appealed to me right away. Its bling and gorjuss! Its a purple heart shaped bottle which kinds kookily stands on its side. Then i smelt it after a pretty smoothly atomised burst. Hmm. How can I describe it? Well its ubersweet, fizzy but kinda slightly spiced, floral and vanilla-ey all in one. My initial thought was honestly 'Oh sexy!'. Loverdose PR says..."beautiful but deadly narcotic for the senses". I agree. I class it as a midnight into the early hours at a rock and roll gig style-fragrance. When I've worn it I've felt saucy, felt more sexy...and wanted to leap on my partner even more often! LOL. I've had comments and questions about it, I've heard someone I don't know say 'hmm loverdose' when I've been wearing it. To me it doesn't suit the daytime as well, but the feelings it evokes are a bit addictive so I've often wanted to wear it anyway. I've since read some more technical reviews and it talks about 'liquorice florals', 'almost-bitter dry woods' and names its elements as mandarin, lemon, star anise, gardenia, jasmine, liquorice, vanilla, ambrox, cedar and sandalwood. Yeah sounds about right.
In short I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Its made by Diesel by the way (Italian denim-wear label apparently), they sell it in most H&B retail outlets. You'll expect to pay a bit less than the following RRP's in most retail outlets on the high street (30ml for RRP £35, 50ml for RRP £47.50, 75ml for RRP £58). Although the price is a little on the high side if its not on any kind of promotional offer, its not ridiculous. I recommend Superdrug though for competitive prices, great staff and beauty points ;p.
One of my Christmas gifts this year was a selection of miniature designer fragrances, which in my opinion was a great gift, as I love trying perfumes to see what I like and what lasts without necessarily having to purchase a whole bottle. This Diesel Loverdose is one of the miniature bottles in the set, however, a 30ml bottle can cost between £30 and £40 which is pretty standard.
There is no doubt that the bottle itself is very eye catching, and I did recognise the bottle shape and design when I opened my miniature gift set. This eau de parfum bottle is in the shape of glass heart with a deep purple tinge, and black lid. Unlike a traditional bottle, this one doesn't sit upright, and inside sits on its side resting on a small flat part of the bottle.
This fragrance is classed as 'sexy and addictive' representing a 'sexy, playful and irresistible' women who desires ' pleasure, adrenaline and passion' according to Diesel. This eau de parfum includes notes of mandarin and star anise, alongside liquorice and vanilla, with a base note of dry woods.
When I first put this fragrance on my skin, I felt it was a little strong, and I knew pretty quickly it wouldn't be one that I would be wearing to work, as it certainly wasn't a day fragrance. You can immediately smell many of the notes within this fragrance when you first apply it - I can very easily pick out the star anise, liquorice and even the mandarin. Unfortunately, I cannot pick out the vanilla, which a scent I love. The other notes are simply overpowering. I did hope that this fragrance would settle on my skin and mellow a little, but no such luck. In fact, it is so strong, it reminds me of some of my husbands stronger aftershaves (the ones I don't particulary like!).
On a positive note, this fragrance is pretty long lasting, and will linger on the skin for a good number of hours before fading completely. It is easier to imagine someone wearing this on an evening out that during the day.
I am a much bigger fan of the floral fruity fragrances that are light and summery and which can be worn all day. This fragrance, in my opinion, is way too strong for daytime, and to be honest, for me, far too strong for the evening as well. THis is why I am glad I got to try this fragrance out as a sample, because it certainly isn't for me and I wouldn't ever be buying a bottle of it, no matter how attractive it looks. THose who like their fragrances stronger may be better suited to this!
I had Diesels new Loverdose for Christmas and having never liked any of Diesels previous perfumes, I was pleasantly surprised.
A gorgeous different aroma, it does have quite a strong smell and can seem quite sweet to some people but I have found that it always lasts throughout the day. I normally wear at the weekends or for going out and love it when I put my coat back on and get the fresh smell of this again.
I have received several compliments on the smell and do not think I will ever stop wearing or tire of it.
Many people have said they dont like as they cannot stand aniseed but I must say, when you initially spray, you can slightly smell it, it is soon overpowered by the sweet aroma.
Top notes: Mandarine Orange, Star Anise
Middle notes: Liquorice, Gardenia, Jasmine
Base notes: Vanilla, Wood, Amber
The bottle is quite quirky, a purple chiseled heart shaped chunky bottle which can stand in many different positions ( so when I am in a rush in the morning, I'm not messing about making sure I ahev stood it up properly).
As it was only released just before Christmas, it was initially quite expensive to buy. I have come across 3 different sized bottles, 30ml, 50ml & 75ml, prices range from £25 - £50 depending upon which size you get.
I had it as part of a gift set and got a 200ml body lotion too. It makes me smell gorgeous all over and all day long! The good point about using the body lotion and the perfume is you only need to spray a small amount.
I noticed after Christmas, a lot of the bigger stores like House of Fraser, John Lewis and Boots were selling off the gift sets in the sales, I managed to buy another set, including 50ml EDP and 200ml body lotion for £24, I think a lot of people also did this as you can pick one up from EBay for around £40 whereas the gift sets are nearly £50 in the shops again.
I would really recommend this perfume, I have been using for 3 months now and hardly used any.
Thanks for reading.

Diesel is an Italian clothing brand since 1978 and founded by Renzo Rosso. It started with clothes (and especially jeans) but has expanded into a brand with an extensive line of clothing and its own fragrance line. In terms of clothing, the company focused primarily on young people aged 18 to 25 years, but now there is also a special children's line and sport line.
Lover Dose is the latest fragrance for women of the Diesel brand. The fragrance is a "love potion" that is a beautiful but a deadly weapon for seduction. In other words, women conquer men with ease as they use this fragrance. When I smell the spray, I notice immediately that there is an anise like smell in it. Furthermore, the scent of vanilla and clearly something both floral and fruity. It's a nice blend of different scents that support and reinforce each other.
Top: mandarin and anise
Heart: jasmine, gardenia
Base: amber, vanilla and wood tones
It is essentially a sweet scent that is a fresh, fruity accent combined with a floral accent. The scent of vanilla is clearly recognizable. The bottle is a beautiful heart-shaped bottle that can lie on the side. The bottle is not smooth but has some angular shapes, like a sparkling diamond. The bottle has a purple color. The spray on the top is largely black, except for the upper part which is silver.
The most striking ingredient is definitely sweet vanilla that you smell really all day. The fruity and floral accents alternate a bit and that surprised me in the beginning. I thought it was purely more a fruity floral fragrance. I can enjoy this fragrance all day so it is definitely a scent that is worth the money. If you are a lover sweeter fragrances than I can definitely recommend this!
I got the Loverdose set with the perfume, body lotion and shower gel for Christmas and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised! It is a very feminine perfume, sort of a spicy floral smell. I think the main scents are liquorice and vanilla but it smells very flowery. Some perfumes with a dominant liquorice smell are too sweet and smell horrible, but the vanilla smell helps mellow out the scent. It allegedly contains molecules which stimulate the part of the brain which controls attraction and lust. It comes in a beautiful purple, heart shaped glass bottle and the bottle alone is so pretty that it makes you want to buy it! The gift set that I got contains a 30ml bottle of the perfume, a 50ml bottle of the body lotion and a 50ml bottle of the shower gel and it costs under £35! I would definitely recommend this perfume to anyone, and even if you think that you will not like it, I would recommend you to try it anyway, you may be surprised!
