Another one of my favourites when I visit the airport. I go straight to the Diesel shelf. Generally all the male Diesel fragrances I like. However the "Only The Brave" is the better one of the lot. However for Christmas I was given this by my wife.
A very distinctive glass bottle, its in the shape of a fist with the word "Diesel" going across the knuckles. For a man, its rare to find well designed bottles. The likes of Boss, CK etc really do not put a huge amount of effort into it.
So the smell.
Base notes: Amber, Leather Accord, Cedarwood
Top notes: Lemon, Mandarin, Coriander Leaves
Your see then from the top notes that this is a fairly fruity fragrance. Something I guess that can be hit and miss with regards to what you want your man to wear. But honestly, its not that fruity and still very masculine. If you're looking for something that smells fantastic, can be worn virtually any time during any season, I'd say this stuff is as good a bet as any. I've heard that most people get a really strong mandarin orange opener, but sadly I don't. Though I wish I did as I love oranges. I get a fresh, somewhat aquatic, slightly lemony opener that dissipates rather quickly (within 30-60 minutes) and leaves me with more of a woodsy, musky accord, with maybe a hint of vanilla. Then late in the day I get that strong amber/cedar dry down thing happening.
Duration I would say is approximately 6hrs. Enough for a night out.
Cost. Well your looking at approximately £34 for 30ml and £38 for 50ml. Still quite expensive, and very rare to find it discounted.
Oh, and the wife loves it. So great all round.
I recently forced my boyfriend into buying this due to the sheer fact it makes me melt..
Now, this isn't going to be a standard 'it smells good' review, because I'm a girl, I'm not the one wearing it.
But, it does smell pretty darn good. It has an almost feminine overtone which fades to a musky undertone which is unlike any mens fragrance I've smelt before. Not only that but the smell is that pungent that one little spray at 7:30am is still evident at 7:30pm.
I'm not alone in it making me weak at the knees, many of my female friends have a similar reaction which can never be bad for a guy.
I see no problem with the bottle myself but my boyfriend does think it looks 'cheap and tacky', which I can understand. A standard glass square would have been better than pulling out cheap metaphorical packaging.
Over the last year I have tried a lot of fragrances, Diesel Only The Brave however is one of the best. I had heard a lot about it and saw all the adverts and I received it as a gift last Christmas, I immediately loved the bottle design which is something different. The size is great and can easily be fitted into a travel bag for holidays.
The most special thing is the scent itself, it is quite strong so I recommend not overdoing it, I find a little dab goes a really long way. It smells fantastic and I have had some friends ask which one it is.
I mainly use it for nights out as after hours on the town the scent is still there and doesn't wear off like some.
I strongly recommend this aftershave, from the stylish quality looking bottle to the strong great scent it is a winner for me and you can't go far wrong with it.
I was initially a little hesitant to get this aftershave as I already had a good aftershave. However my girlfriend convinced me and it definitely was a good decision. It smells great which is obviously the point of an aftershave. I sometimes have irritated skin and I have never had an issue with this aftershave. I wear it fairly regularly. Great for a night out with my girlfriend. However I wear it too work occasionally and I have got positive comments on several occasions, and in particular questions about what it is. I find that you dont have to have too much too get a good effect. In fact less is probably better with this product as it has quite a distinctive aroma. In fact I find that it lasts the whole day or night depending on the occasion. It is perfect for all kinds of occasions. If i did not have another aftershave, I would not buy another aftershave as I feel it is a great aftershave, perfect for many occasions. The only reason I do not use it more is that I have a great paco rabanne aftershave as well. The bottle is great too. It feels sturdy which is great as I have damaged bottles before. The design is unique and adds a little bit extra to the product itself. I you are looking for a great aftershave for many occasions this is the aftershave for you.
Get straight in there and say this is by a long shot my favourite aftershave currently on the market. I've tried a number of different ones available and always find myself going back to Only The Brave and I'm currently on my 3rd bottle.
The price for this aftershave is pretty reasonable largely due to the fact it's been around a while meaning there has been a drop in the price. Shopping around a bit is definitely best as you do get a lot of offers in certain stores my last bottle I got in a package with the shower gel included for £20 which was actually cheaper than the after shave on his own.
The first thing you notice as with a lot of the Diesel products is the bottle this one in particular is a sort of coke bottle blue colour glass fist which really stands out amongst other bottles and is definitely the most eye catching one I've seen. It also has a sort of silver rectangle I guess representing a ring going over a few of the fingers with the company logo written on which again is a very cool way to present it.
Now down to the aftershave it has quite a strong sent but it is by no means overwhelming but I do find with this one I need to apply a lot less than with some others I have used (Joop, Cool Water, Millionaire, Armani Code) a couple of sprays in the morning will usually last me up until the end of the working day. To explain the specific scent is quite difficult it's definitely a masculine smell fortunately almost all stores now offer samples and even online you can get small sample bottles so I definitely recommend trying a sample for yourself as it has a unique smell.
I am still yet to find an aftershave that gets me more compliments every time I've had this on at least one person comments about me smelling nice which is always a big plus.
Definitely the best current aftershave from the large range that I've tried definitely would recommend it to anyone.
I love my EDT's, I have been known to buy so many that buy the time I get round to about half a bottle most of them have that funny curry kind of smell that indicates that they've gone off! This is one of the exceptions to the rule though. I always seem to pick this one over most of the others , resulting in repeat purchases of this fab fragrance. I pay around £60 for a 125ml bottle, which to me is good value for money. It has been known to be higher in price but I think now that it has been about a bit it has started to drop in price.
The bottle comes in the shape of a fist, for the more filthier minded of you that could bring on images that couldn't be further from the product itself! I usually buy the 125ml bottle as I find the smaller one doesn't last me very long at all. The DIESEL iconography is vertical to the fist, in a knuckleduster type formation. The bottle is made of aqua blue transparent glass, with the DIESEL logo in a silvery plastic. The disperser is also in silver.
Scent on application
When applying the scent you get an immediately clean crisp impression. It reminds me of a cross between soap and a citrusy burst of lime. This soon changes though and leaves you with a woody type aroma. It's a pretty unique smell but not dissimilar to Gucci Guilty, which is considerably more expensive at the moment.
Longevity of scent
I find that after applying I don't need to reapply for a good four to six hours, I sometimes take it to work with me if I am going out afterwards as it does tend to fade away but for general day to day usage a quick couple of spurts in the morning will do you fine.
It is described as having the following top and middle notes;
Top Notes: Amalfi Lemon, Mandarin Orange
Middle Notes: Virginia cedar, Coriander, Violet Base Notes: French labdanum, amber, Styrax, Benzoin, Leather
I have no idea what half of them are, but you can certainly smell the citrus influences and the woody cedar with a slight spice from the coriander. It certainly packs a punch with those three types of fragrance mingling together!
As you can probably tell, I am a fan, a big fan. I think this fragrance would suit the younger end of the EDT market. It doesn't seem to have the muskiness that you associate with more mature fragrances. It would make a great gift for a cheeky kind of guy that likes to make an impression, or maybe give it a go if you want to try and help someone come out of their shell. The confidence that this fragrance gives you is second to none, it really isn't only for the brave!
I bought this Eau De Toilette after passing Christmas 2010 without actually getting any from anyone else. Being completely out of fragrances I took a trip to my local boots and The Perfume Shop to look around at tester strips and compare prices a little.
After a few scent testing's I was left with a handful of scented strips, yet none of them compared to what I tried next. The diesel fragrance immediately stood out at me with its radical design and then did not disappoint, producing a very strong and powerful scent. To describe the actual scent would actually be very hard, so I suggest you go and smell a test strip, but I can say that the scent is very attention grabbing without being over the top like other diesel fragrances that I have smelled. When I have chosen to wear this aftershave my girlfriend immediately notices the difference - she too loves the scent. In addition the scent seems to last all or most of the day which is a lot better than other similarly priced aftershaves that I have owned.
The bottle the aftershave comes in is a fist shaped from tinted blue glass. Very eye-catching and promoting the strong and masculine persona of the scent. The only downside I would say is that you are stuck with big silver letters spelling 'diesel' across the front of the bottle which I find tacky and just degrades from the stylish design. I understand that the company needs to sell their name but they could be slightly more subtle about it.
I actually bought a 50ml version of this bottle, and 200ml of shower gel in the same fragrance (again highly recommended) from the perfume shop for £25 which is actually cheaper than just the aftershave on its own. Also available however are 35, 50, 125 and 200ml versions for ranging prices of £32.50-£64.50. Please do shop around however as some shops do try to charge over the top for this fragrance.
The packaging the box comes in is white with blue lettering if you buy the aftershave itself. When bought with the shower gel the box is silver with a clear window to see the inside. Personally I find both boxes very stylish and have actually kept the silver one to use for other things now due to the fact that it is just to strong and versatile.
Overall I would highly recommend this product as the smell is sublime and I am sure it will become a classic just as the 'Africa' scent for lynx has. Go find your nearest tester and try some on, you won't be disappointed!
I bought this aftershave as an extra surprise christmas present.
What a surprise it was as henever heard or seen this aftershave advertised.
My partner can be quite fussy with his aftershaves but can say he was pleasantly surprised with this particular one. It is a very manly and strong fragrance without being too overpowering. The fragrance lasted all day and you really don't need to use much. He would definitely say this is in his top 3 favourite aftershaves and he is often recommending it. Often these days I find new aftershaves very strong but do not last very long and by the end of the day need topping up. This definitely did not need to be done with only the brave!
I am so used to my partner wearing the obvious popular aftershaves like Joop and Armani, it was nice to smell something completely different and unique!
I paid £42 for a 50ml bottle which at the time I thought was quite steep. I have since realised many other designer aftershaves are much more expensive that this particular one.
I therefore guess it depends on peoples individual budgets.
My partner definitely receives more compliments when wearing this aftershave than any other brand (women more than men).
Great smelling, long lasting and receives compliments.
I can honestly say you will not be dissappointed with this aftershave, go and have a smell ;)
This aftershave was bought for me by my girlfriend as an extra surprise christmas present.

It was when shopping for a birthday gift for my boy friend that i found this, i have never been a huge fan of diesel fragrances, the female ones are even worse than the male ones, i find them in general to smell rather cheap, and often over powering. I spent almost an hour in boots smelling and re-smelling the different frangrence options (i get pretty obsessive about buying gifts, always wanting it to be perfect) i was pretty skeptical about this aftershave so it was one i didnt pick up until right near the end.
On spraying on to the testing strip, i knew he would love it, how could you not? A scent thats strong yet not to over powering, it is attention grabbing both in looks and smell. The bottle is shaped like a clenched fist, which is said to representing strength, self-confidence and bravery, which i think is a perfect representation of this unique and explosive fragrance. The bottle is a lovely shade of tinted blue glass. Although i must say the appearance is slightly ruined by the silver letters across the fingers "DIESEL" i feel this is a tacky touch to a beautifully designed bottle, but it is still not enough to ruin it. If i remember rightly, the fragrance comes in a white square box with blue writting printed largely across the box stating the name of the fragrance.
This fragrance comes in 5 sizes, so if your not sure about if this is for you, then your best getting the 35ml bottle, at £30 from boots, but i have no doubt that shopping around could get you this item at a much lower price, but since i purchased from boots the prices i list will be based on the prices at boots.There is also a 50ml bottle at £37.50, a 75ml bottle at £49.50 (this is the one i purchased) a 125ml bottle, which i think is new as im sure there were only 3 sizes when i was purchasing, and also a 200ml bottle, again, new. The odd thing about the 125ml bottle is that it is £48.50, thats £1 less than the smaller 75ml bottle, so im not really sure whats going on there....obviously it would be insain to pay £1 more for a smaller bottle.......the 200ml bottle is £60.
This fragrance is really different, a scent that is hard to describe, but with it being so strong you do not need to use much at all, using too much will only push this lovely smell to being over the top and just too much. Because of this a bottle will last a very long time even used daily. The smell seems to linger on the skin all day, and i notice instantly if my boy friend has decided to wear this fragrance, the scent is obvious, and different. Well worth buying but also well worth shopping around, ive seen the 50ml bottle online for as little as £22.....i would not pick boots as a place to purchase again, but i would definately recommend this, the smell was even nicer on skin than on the tester paper, and this really did make for a brilliant gift, as he loved it, and i got to enjoy it as well.
I have more than enough aftershaves and really am not in the market to be buying any more until I have got through the bottles I already have. However when I receive a bottle as a gift I am not going to say no to it.
I received a bottle of Diesel only the brave as a gift from my sister when she visited New York. I like Diesel clothing and own a few of their jeans and tops but I had never until then actually smelt any of their fragrances and my first impressions were quite good.
========== The Bottle ==========
Normally I am drawn to more clean and classic bottle designs and this bottle couldn't be further away from that aesthetic.
First I need to explain that my bottle of only the brave EDT is actually a limited edition and differs from the original bottle in colour only.
The bottle is desinged to look like a clenched fist with a 'knuckle duster' ring on it's two middle fingers that has the diesel name on it. It is certainly striking and looks nothing like any other bottle of aftershave on the market.
The original only the brave comes in a grey/blue bottle but the limited edition one I have is red and the 'knuckle duster' ring and the lid are both gold colour.
Apparently it is supposed to look like Iron Man from the Marvel comics and I can definately see this in the design.
Although it is nothing like my normal style I think it might actually be my favourite bottle as it just stands out so much inbetween all my other plainer bottles and it just looks so young and fun that I can't help but to smile when I look at it.
========== Notes ==========
The top notes in the fragrance are modern leather, lemon, mandarin and coriander.
Heat notes are labdanum, violet leaves and rosemary.
Base notes are amber and cedarwood.
========== The Smell ==========
Only the brave is supposed to be a clean fresh scent like so many other aftershaves these days. It does certainly have a fresh smell to it but there is also something decidedly artificial about it. I personally don't find this too be a problem as if I wanted something that didn't smell artificial then I would use essential oils.
I can definately smell the lemon but this is nearly drownt out by something more spicy and woody.
The scent is definately masculine and there would be no way of not knowing this was a male fragrance which makes a nice change from a lot of modern aftershaves that I own where you would be hard pressed to think they were particulary masculine.
I find it to be quite a versitile fragrance and feel it could easily be worn as either a day time scent or for a night out. It would be as at home in the office as it would be in a nightclub.
I do think it smells very young and can imagine it will be ver popular with teenagers. It also comes across as a bit generic and there are at least 5 other aftershaves it smells similair to. Again this isn't a big problem for me as there is a reason that these types of scents are popular and that's because they smell good.
When you first spray the EDT you are immediately hit with just how potent the scent is. I like a strong smelling fragrance and have been known to practically douse myself in aftershave until I am able to smell the fragrance I am wearing. With this aftershave I don't need to do that and just a couple of sprays is enough for me to be able to smell the fragrance for the entire day.
Longevity is fantastic with this fragrance and those two squirts of the bottle are enough to last an entire day and well into the evening without losing too much of it's potency. Due to the fact that it is so strong you will only use a small amount and this means that the bottle will last for much longer than some other aftershaves that aren't as potent.
========== Price and Availability ==========
As I received my bottle as a gift I didnt like to ask exactly how much it cost my sister but afer having a look online the original bottles of only the brave are selling for around £30 for a small bottle of 35ml and up to £50 for a 75ml bottle.
As well as the EDT there is also a shower gel which is around £20 for a 200ml bottle, an aftershave balm which is £27 for a 100ml bottle and an aftershave lotion which is around £30 for a 100ml bottle.
========== My Verdict ==============
I would definately recommend Diesel only the brave EDT as I find the scent to be fresh and enjoyable to wear. I appreciate it's strength and longevity and I will definately consider buying a new bottle when my one is finished though I don't expect that to be for a long time.
The price for a bottle is about average for a designer fragrance but because it lasts so long I personally think it's better value than about 80 per cent of the other fragrances on the market because this one will last for so much longer.
Because the bottle is just so damn cool only the brave would make a fantastic gift for any young men out there for birthdays or christmas but if you are looking for a decent modern aftershave that will get you lot's of compliments but won't alienate people when this could just be the one for you.
Personally i have never been a big fan of the diesel brand they never really appealed to my liking and in my opinion were way to strong to the smell that I am most accustomed to. However I was quite interested in this product when I first saw it being advertised on the television, i must admit the unusual shape of the bottle first caught my attention. So as I was shopping down town with my fiance the next day i decided to smell a tester and at first i wasnt so sure it still was a bit strong but not a bad smell. My fiance absolutley loved the smell and insisted that i get it as she said she would wear it herself if it wasnt such a mans fragrance! So i brought it and in the end i gradually grew to liking it, i now wear it most often when going out as i dont feel its an everyday kind of fragrance. However i would recommend people to but this as it is a nice smell once you get used to it and i can guarentee women will love the smell of this on any man as well!
I had never previously fancied the Diesel brand much until this Christmas when I was given the gift of this particular fragrance from my mother and have to say it has entirely changed my opinion of the brand and I might consider switching my aftershave allegiance in the near future.
The first thing that hits you about the only for the Brave range is the stylish bottle it comes in. As you can see in the above picture the product comes in a fist shaped bottle with the brand name across the knuckles. It looks very stylish, especially on a cabinet or such like and gives the brand a well made feel as the bottle feels solid and looks like effort has been made in crafting it.
But it is in the scent where this fragrance excels. Straight from the first spray the lush tones hit the nose buds and impress. Of all the family and friends I have associated with over this party-heavy, festive season I have had nothing but positive comments and "What aftershave have you got on?" and people wondering what brand it is. Always a good sign!
The smell is quite fruity at first with hints of amber and lemon and an all round citrus note to it. The smell stays strong and consistent throughout the day and night and the liquid isn't too greasy so dissolves into the skin without leaving marks or the feeling that you have just rubbed lard on your neck as some aftershaves can do.
Although it is fruity as I said before it certainly has a masculine air about it. Without doubt this is intended for the younger end of the market, males between 18-35 probably in looks, smell and appeal.
A 35ml bottle will cost around £25-£30 so its not cheap but given the brand appeal, the scent, the way it lasts and the cool little bottle it is well worth it and not only that but it serves as a perfect gift
In terms of lasting duration the smell is strong with only a tiny spray and last all day and well into the night. Many people have indeed commented on the scent being nice when other brands they wouldn't have been able to scent. Therefore you need caution as to need overuse the product or it will overpower guests and friends and be off putting for some. Given the tiny amount needed to make an impression therefore this will last sometime!
Therefore given the mixture of a strong, masculine and fresh scent with the longevity you would expect for the price I would certainly recommend this product to anyone seeking to try out the Diesel range of fragrances. Diesel is a "cool" brand that tries to distance itself from the rival companies out there and the Only the Brave collection evidences that to the full extent!

My first attraction to Diesel's latest male fragrance 'Only The Brave' last year was based solely around the bottle. I had seen it advertised on TV a couple of times, and loved the shape and cool design of the bottle, along with the name designated to the fragrance, and immediately wanted to get my hands on some.
Luckily for me, my wife picked up on this, and I received a bottle last Christmas, and another bottle this Christmas!
As mentioned above, the bottle is somewhat unique in design. See the picture above of the bottle to get a clear idea of the style.
It is made from a cool light blue coloured translucent glass, shaped into a clenched fist design. There is a silver cap at the top of the fist, which reveals the spray mechanism, and silver diesel lettering over the centre of the fingers on the clenched fist which looks like a ring on 2 of the fingers. This bottle comes in a nice bright white coloured cardboard box, with 'Diesel Only The Brave' printed in bold, black and blue coloured text.
The scent of this fragrance is awesome. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised, when I first got to try it last Christmas, as I didn't really know what to expect, but I had tried other diesel aftershaves prior to receiving this, and I had never been overly impressed with them.
The general smell of the fragrance is instantly recognisable to me now after wearing 'Only The Brave' for over a year now on special occasions. It is very fruity, and has a hint of femininity to it in my opinion, that tends to suit the younger male adult in the range of 20-40 years of age.
The fragrance has base notes of amber, leather accord and cedar wood, which combine well with the fruity top notes of lemon and mandarin, and coriander leaves, with the lemon being particularly recognisable to my nose. The heart notes are labdanum heart, along with violet leaves and rosemary, and this overall fruity scent is very long lasting, without being too overpowering at any point.
This excellent fragrance from Diesel is available at most fragrance stores, such as boots, or debenhams, and comes in a 35ml, 50ml or 75ml bottle size. Having just checked with my wife, she paid around £38 for my 50ml EDT bottle which included a 10% discount from debenhams.
I really like this fragrance for men. It comes in the 'coolest of cool' designed bottle, which is solid and heavy in the hand, and looks great when on display. The fragrance itself has a fantastic fresh and fruity smell to it, which is full of energy and long lasting but not too overpowering. It is quite expensive, and so I tend to only wear it for special occasions, which helps it to last quite a while, and I hope I am lucky enough to get another bottle next Christmasms too!
