Advantages: nice floral/fruity/musky composition
Disadvantages: poor staying power considering it is an eau de parfum
DKNY Delicious Night Eau De Parfum is a fragrance which was launched by Donna Karen New York in 2007, following the release of the previous 2 DKNY fragrances which were Be Delicious and Delicious Red. As well as the Delicious Night perfume you can also purchase other Delicious Night fragranced bath and body products such as the body lotion and shower gel which has the same fragrance as the perfume. The complimentary bath and body products help to layer the scent of the perfume upon your skin therefore increasing the longevity of the scent. People who have dry or oily skin and find that the scent of perfumes don't really last on their skin may benefit from using the complimentary bath and body products before applying the perfume; as this would give the scent a base to layer itself upon therefore increasing the longevity of the scent. Everyone's skin types are different and each individual may experience a different reaction in the staying power or the actual scent of the perfume on their skin because everyone's skin is different.
As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the Delicious Night perfume is supplied in a dark purple bottle which resembles the shape of an apple. The design of the bottle is exactly the same as the earlier DKNY fragrances the only difference is the fact that the colour of the apple shaped bottle is different. The colour of the bottle is like a dark purple/blue shade; the colour of the bottle instantly reminds you of the night time because of the dark and mysterious colouring of the apple shaped bottle. Overall I think that the perfume bottle and the packaging are very plainly designed, as it doesn't have much detailing or design on it. However the use of the metallic highlighting on the bottle and box adds a little sophistication to the overall design and appearance.
FRAGRANCE NOTES
DKNY Delicious Night Eau De Parfum is described as having the following fragrance notes ~
T op Notes of pomelo, ginger, and blackberry
The top notes are the first phase of the perfume; they are usually the most volatile and evaporate from the skin very quickly. The top notes are usually very light and refreshing and their scent usually lasts for anything between five seconds and ninety minutes.
Middle Notes of pink freesia, orchid, jasmine and iris
The middle notes of a scent are therapeutic and balancing oils, sometimes the middle notes are often referred to as the heart notes of a scent. The middle notes are not always evident and can take between thirty and sixty minutes to develop on your skin, and they last for anything between two to four hours
Base Notes of amber, patchouli, frankincense, myrrh and vetiver
The base notes are the longest lasting notes in a fragrance, most perfumes use the same base notes. This is because they give the perfume more staying power and stop the top and middle notes from evaporating from your skin as quickly
THE SCENT
As soon as DKNY Delicious Night is first sprayed onto your skin you will immediately detect a strong and fruity aroma which has an ever so slight spicy undertone accompanying it. After approximately two minutes or so the scent dies down quite a lot and changes into a more mellow citrus/spicy scent which isn't as strong smelling. I was really surprised by how quickly the scent of the perfume settled down considering it was as strong smelling a first. However this scent is absolutely gorgeous and when it is completely settled it has a gorgeous light and airy composition which I'm sure most women would love the scent of.
The strong and fruity top notes which you can smell as soon as the perfume is sprayed onto your skin are that of Pomelo and Blackberries; the Pomelo and Blackberries have a really natural scent which isn't at all synthetic or fake smelling. I think that the scent of the Pomelo and Blackberries complement each other nicely because the blackberry has a really sweet aroma where as the Pomelo has a very citrusy scent which is really similar to that of Grapefruit. The Pomelo has a really sharp, bitter and zesty scent where as the Blackberries have a really sweet, juicy aroma which is really similar to that of Ribena. The fruity Pomelo and Blackberry aroma is complimented nicely by the addition of a spicy top note which in my opinion adds warmth and depth to the scent of the fruity top notes. The warm and spicy top note which is identifiable is that of Ginger; again the scent of the Ginger doesn't have a really sharp and peppery aroma which is synthetic or fake smelling, the ginger has a really natural scent and only adds a very slight spicy undertone to the scent of the perfume.
The top notes of DKNY delicious Night don't really last for a long length of time; I was expecting them to last a lot longer than they did mainly because the perfume is an Eau De Parfum scent and not an Eau De Toilette. I would say that even although this is an Eau De Parfum fragrance the top notes only really lingered for the same length of time as an Eau De Toilette fragrance. On average I would say that the scent of the top notes lingered on my skin for approximately two to three minutes at the most before the gradually faded away and were no longer detectable. The top notes which lingered for the longest length of time were that of the Blackberries and the Pomelo.
The middle notes of DKNY Delicious Night are completely different to that of the fruity and spicy top notes of the fragrance; the middle notes have more of a sweet floral composition. Even although the middle notes of the fragrance are of a floral composition, the scent doesn't smell overly floral as it has a slight creamy/sweet scent which sort of detracts from the floral scent which gives the scent a lighter and airier composition. The middle note which adds the sweet creamy tone to the fragrance is that of Jasmine, the Jasmine is quite sweet smelling although you can detect a really creamy undertone to the scent of the Jasmine as well. Normally I hate fragrances which contain Jasmine as they can sometimes have a really strong and cloying aroma, but in this instance the Jasmine is lovely because it is light sweet and airy as well as having a lovely creamy aroma, which gives it more of a lighter and airier composition. The scent of the creamy Jasmine is complimented nicely by the addition of pink freesia and iris which again are quite sweet smelling and don't smell overly floral. The middle notes which are most prominent are that of the Jasmine and the Pink Freesia, the Iris aroma is quite delicate and barely identifiable as it seems to be somewhat overpowered by the scent of the other fragrance notes. All of the middle notes of this fragrance seem to compliment and blend in with one another very nicely to create a sweet and airy floral composition which also has a slight creamy undertone. The middle notes of the scent again only seem to last for a short length of time on my skin which is really disappointing considering this scent is an Eau De Parfum, On average I would say that the Middle notes only seem to linger on my skin for approximately an hour or so before they start to fade away and blend in with the base notes of the fragrance.
Again after the middle notes of the fragrance have worn away the scent starts to smell completely different again which is good for those whom aren't particularly fond of floral aromas. The fragrance changes from being sweet and floral to more of an earthy and slightly musky scent, the sweet musky fragrance note which is most prominent in this phase of the scent is that of Myrrh, as it has a warm and musky aroma. The Myrrh is complimented nicely by the addition of vetiver and patchouli; I would say that the vetiver and patchouli add slightly woody and earthy tones to the fragrance. The woody and earthy tones are complimented nicely by the addition of a lovely warm and sweet note which is that of Amber, the Amber aroma really adds warmth and depth to the overall scent of the perfume.
The base notes of the fragrance last the longest length of time in comparison to that of the top and middle notes of the fragrance. I would say that on average the base notes of the fragrance last for approximately 5 hours or so on my skin before the perfume is completely faded and is no longer identifiable and needs to be reapplied again.
PERFUME INFORMATION
All perfumes smell slightly different on different people, and this is due to us having different oils in our skin. The staying power of a scent also differs from person to person because we have different types of skin oils too. I said in the review that this perfume lasts for about three or four hours on me, but it could last a longer or shorter amount of time on you.
People who have dry skin types will notice that perfumes don't last long on their skin. If you have dry skin and have this problem you should try layering the scent of a perfume by using the matching body lotion or shower gel before applying the perfume. By doing this you are layering the scent and applying a base for the perfume to layer itself upon, so you should notice that the fragrance will last a lot longer on your skin.
If you like the sound of this perfume then I advise that you go into your local perfume store and test it before you buy it. When testing the scent spray it onto your wrist and wear it for a few hours before you decide whether you like it or not, because the scent changes the longer you wear it due to the different notes which make up the fragrance.
When testing a perfume don't smell the scent on a perfume card because it might smell lovely on the card and when you buy it and wear it at home it might smell totally different and you might not like the scent you are wearing. I made this mistake a few times in the past and wasted £30 on a fragrance which I didn't wear again and put in the bin.
STAYING POWER
DKNY Delicious Night has quite poor staying power considering it is an Eau D e Parfum fragrance, generally Eau De perfumes have relatively good staying power of over 8 hours or so; however this fragrance was somewhat of a letdown and only lingered on my skin for 6 hours maximum. The staying power of this scent means that the perfume needs to be reapplied frequently throughout the day, so you would really need to carry it about with you in your handbag, so as you can reapply in the go.
When I am using the perfume I find that three or four sprays at any one given time is more than enough; as if you use too much of this fragrance it has a somewhat cloying almost powdery aroma which is quite intoxicating and overpowering. Less is definitely more with this perfume as it can also smell sort of cheap if you are wearing too much of it.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
DKNY Delicious Night Eau De Parfum is available to purchase in larger department stores such as Boots and Debenhams; although you can also purchase it online from some perfume retailers and also EBay at a slightly cheaper price. The price you pay for the perfume will differ greatly depending on where you purchase it from; so I would advise having a look around and finding the cheapest deal possible. Most of the time I usually purchase my perfumes online as they are substantially cheaper compared to shopping in store.
As well as the DKNY Be Delicious perfume you can also purchase the fragranced shower gel and body lotion which will layer the scent of the perfume increasing the longevity a little. People whom find that the perfume doesn't last long on their skin would benefit from using the body lotion and shower gel before applying the perfume as this acts as a base for the perfume to layer itself upon therefore increasing the longevity of the fragrance on your skin.
The prices for DKNY Delicious Night perfume and fragranced body products are as follows ~
(Prices have been quoted from the scentstore.co.uk website)
150 ml Shower Gel £17.50
150ml Body Lotion £21.50
30ml EDP £26.50
50ml EDP £34.50
100ml EDP £49.50
MY OPINION
I think that DKNY Delicious Night is a really nice fragrance despite its poor staying power, As the name of the fragrance suggests this fragrance is best worn at night time because of its deep musky aroma; however you could also use it during the day as a casual day to day scent. Even although this scent has a slightly powdery scent it isn't too heavy or cheap smelling unless you spray far too much of it onto yourself.
If you like fragrances such as Very Valentino or Soft Musk then I'm sure this is a fragrance which you would like as it is fairly similar when the base notes are more apparent.
