A few years ago I was looking around for a fresh daily wear perfume as I had grown bored of my J'Adore eau de toilette. It was then that I came across DKNY Pure and I have never looked back since.
I am a bit a bit of a perfume bottle magpie to be honest and I have in the past bought perfumes mainly for the bottle! However, don't expect a fancy bottle with DKNY pure. Instead, it comes in a sleek, simple bottle. It is simply a frosted glass bottle with a plain lid but I quite like that it suits the ethos of the perfume.
Well first off the most important thing about any perfume is the smell and this is where this perfume excels. It has a fresh vanilla scent and according to the DKNY website "accords of lotus flower and Bulgarian rose harmonize with jasmine, freesia, and lush orchid. It finishes with warm amber and creamy sandalwood" - which is a pretty accurate description although it is not a woody scent in any way and is instead nice and fresh. I don't like heavy perfumes as they remind me of my mum so this the perfect smell for me I can wear it daily or for a night out so it is very versatile.
The vanilla used is also ethically sourced in collaboration with the CARE project which in an initiative designed to support women in Uganda which was part of the reason I was drawn to it in the first place.
At just over £30 for a small bottle and £60 for the larger size it is standard price for a perfume and as far as I can see well worth the money.

Coming up to the summer months, I want a fresh casual fragrance that I can wear day to day that isn't too overpowering but is easy to wear. I had received a sample of this DKNY Pure and up until having 'Be Delicious' by DKNY I hadn't tried any other scents by them. This is why I was quite curious to see what this was like as I usually like their fragrances as they are casual but special at the same time. Being called 'Pure' it does give off the idea that it is quite neutral and not too heavy which is what I was hoping it would be and was going for the name.
This fragrance was launched in 2010 and I only received a sample recently but the bottle isn't really eye catching it is almost pure just like the name implies. It looks like a light bulb the bottle to me hanging upside down as it is a spherical shaped bottle and has no colour to it so it is really quite simple. It has a silver lid to it and the box itself is a neutral colour with a brown rectangle on the front that says pure DKNY. I like that it is minimal as it is almost intriguing as the bottle gives no clues about the scent.
With this scent, I wasn't sure of the obvious notes that create this scent as it isn't all obvious. Not being specific but as a general initial feeling I found this to be a fresh, floral scent and at times almost quite sweet and light. It comes across as a very feminine scent which is what I really like and it just seems quite casual and easy to wear. This fragrance is one I find easy to wear day to day and it is a great daytime fragrance because it isn't too much of a statement scent and not too bold but it is noticeable.
Pure DKNY is made up first of all of base notes of transparent jasmine, freesia and lush orchid which is where I picked up mainly on the floral notes. For the heart notes, these are made up of ugandan vanilla, white amber and creamy sandalwood where the sweetness is also picked up from. Lastly, the top notes are dew-on-petals accord, lotus flower and bulgarian rose where again you get your floral notes from. There is a good mix of notes in here and they create quite a mild but beautiful fragrance.
When wearing this fragrance, I find that I only need one or two sprays to make it go on properly. It doesn't really fade all that much when it has gone on, it mutes down ever so slightly but still keeps apparent. The fragrance does have a really good staying power and I never really need to reapply my perfume when I wear this out. If I wear this to work in the morning, I will still be able to notice that I am wearing this by the end of the working day if not longer as it has that good a staying power.
With this perfume, I do really like it but in some ways wouldn't give it a full five star rating because I feel it is nothing spectacular and unique. To get a full star rating a perfume has to offer something different and as much as I like Pure DKNY I feel it is quite a safe scent and isn't edgy enough to make me adore it. The fact that I wear it to work more than anywhere says that it is really quite an easy to wear scent, it is ideal for any woman looking for a sweet, casual, daytime scent and that is exactly what I'd recommend it for.
If you want to buy this fragrance you can from all department stores or places like eBay where you may get a bargain. Theperfumeshop's website sell the 30ml EDP for £34.50 and the 50ml EDP for £47.50. Lastly the 100ml EDP is £66.50 which isn't cheap but it is reasonable for this size of EDP.

Another fantastic and long lasting perfume from DKNY.
I am a big fan of DKNY products, especially their perfumes. I wanted to try this one as it was the new kid on the block, and I loved the smell of the tester. I paid about £30 for a medium sized bottle.
The design is very simple; I guess as this scent is called 'Pure,' the intention is to make the perfume look simple. The perfume is a completely clear liquid and the bottle is transparent glass.
The perfume smells wonderful, quite like vanilla. It has a very simple, yet beautiful scent. It lasts all day, only fading ever so slightly. When you put the perfume on, it isn't too overpowering, and you only need a few squirts for good coverage. I bought this last year (2010) and still have it to this day.
I would recommend it for special occasions, as it has quite a mature smell about it; maybe work events and weddings/Christenings.
You can also buy this perfume in gift boxes along with the shower cremes and lotions for that extra fresh smell.
I am quite fussy about the perfume I wear during the day, as I worry it may be overpowering and get up other people's noses (pardon the pun!). This perfume has a lovely delicate scent, yet makes me feel suitably fragrant all day long.
I recommend testing it when you have an untainted nose, meaning you have not sniffed any others immediately before, otherwise you won't appreciate the delicate infusion.
Despite being quite a "pure" scent as the name suggests, it does have a certain depth and you can detect slightly different elements to it as the day wears on.
I bought mine on holiday, taking advantage of the fact that it was tax free. Now I have gotten used to it, I will definitely buy more when this bottle runs out despite the price, as I absolutely love it.
I have looked it up on the internet and you can get it in the UK for less than £30 if you use a search engine.
I love the bottle too. It is in the shape of a tear drop and looks very classic on my dressing table.
I bought a bottle of DKNY Pure Eau de Parfum prior to going on holiday in early November because I wanted something light and fresh that would be suitable for wearing in the day on the beach or when our sightseeing. After trying this on in the shop, I found its fragrance to be subtle, fresh and light - and therefore I thought it would be ideal for this occasion. A 30ml bottle cost me £24.99 and although it does seem like the larger the bottle you buy the better the value for money, I wanted a small bottle because I didn't want it to take up too much room in my luggage.
The bottle itself is nothing to write home about. It is transparent glass with the Pure DKNY label on it, and a small non-elaborate silvery top. It is applied via a simple aerosol dispenser which needs to be depressed and directed prior to application. It applies the solution in a fine and even spray.
As I said previously, the perfume is very light and fresh and, as the name itself implies, it gives the impression of purity and simplicity. It is not overly complicated - and it is this which means that it is ideal for day wear where you're not looking for complexity or sensuality, but instead simply a pleasant clean fragrance. It is slightly floral, although I do struggle to identify individual floral scents, and instead it is more of a milleu of floral essences which combine to form the overall effect.
If I put this on in the morning, it would last through to the evening, although the intensity of it would fade as the day wore on. I would say that it had good staying power, and that despite its aroma being subtle when you first put it on, this subtle aroma remains for several hours without diminishing.
I will continue to use this for day wear and would recommend it if you are looking for something light and fresh but non-distinctive. However, I do think it is expensive for a non-distinctive product.
DKNY (Donna Karan New York) Pure was a perfume I received on my birthday from my fiancés parents. It was introdued just this year. Its a lovely floral perfume, one of my favourite types. I love the bottle of this perfume, I think its fits the name "Pure" perfectly.
The perfume comes in a white box with flowers and leaves imprinted all over it, also in white. It has a brown/gold band across the front with Pure DKNY written in it, once again in white. The box s very simple and also fits very well with the perfumes name.
The bottle is shaped like a tear drop, plain glass with just Pure DKNY written on the front running vertical rather than horizontal. The whole thing is plain and simple but very stylish.
The perfume is clear and looks likes water.
As I said Pure is a floral fragrance. The notes are:-
Dew-On-Petals Accord, Lotus Flower, Bulgarian Rose
Creamy Sandalwood, Ugandan Vanilla, White Amber
Freesia, Lush Orchid, Transparent Jasmine
Unfortunately the only single elements of this fragrance I can identify are Bulgarian Rose, Vanilla and Jasmine. The fragrance is sweet and fresh. Its a very summery smell and definitely one I would wear in the daytime.
Its not an overly strong perfume and its very girly. I don't see this being worn in the office with a power suit, but that's just my opinion. I would say this fragrance would suit any age but once again that is just my opinion.
Pure is reasonably long lasting, it would definitely last all day, however if you are out for the day and evening you would need to have a quick spray to keep the fragrance going on through the evening.
Pure is available from department stores and also on line. As mine was a gift I looked on the Debenhams website and the prices are, for EDT, :-
30mls --- £32.00
I would definitely recommend Pure, its a lovely sweet floral perfume that would suit any age. Its whole presentation is understated to go with the "Pure" name, yet at the same time stylish and elegant.
I first tried DKNY Perfume probably about 5-6 years ago. I smelt it when on holiday in the duty free and although it was a different 1 to this, I have tried a few of the same designer and have found them all nice.
The thing I like most about the DKNY range is that the perfumes always seem to be pure and crisp smelling, and this one is the same.
I got a bottle of this for my birthday this year. Upon checking online I see that this only came out early this year. I got a 30ml bottle, but see that that size sells for upwards of £25, so it's not exactly a cheap scent.
The box look simple. It has a slight embossed texture to it, and feels good quality. The bottle is lovely. Very simple, but so nice. It is in the shape of a Tear drop, and looks nice and pure. I would say this is more a ball shape, but it is nice nonetheless. The lid isn't that special. Surely for that price they could have made the Lid look nicer?
This has a nice mix of light notes mixed through it. Some of the notes are Dew Drop Flower, Lotus, Jasmine, Amber, Vanilla. The Jasmine adds a deeper scent to it, whereas the rest is so light and fresh.
This Perfume lasts a good while as well after you spray this. I would spray this in the morning and still smell some of it in the afternoon even though I always reapply my Perfume through the day.
Although this is expensive, it smells expensive and lasts a good lenght of time as well, and I will be buying this for myself in the future.
In my opinion DKNY always produce classic, minimalist fragrances, and Pure is no exception. It has an understated feel, but retains the youth and vibrancy that has become the DKNY signature. Pure was launched in February 2010 in the UK, and July 2010 in the US. It currently costs £30.99 for 30ml Eau de parfum at Superdrug, and this is the cheapest I've found (rrp is £34.99). As it's a relatively new fragrance it is not on special offer anywhere yet.
Packaging - Pure comes in a lovely textured box, nothing flashy and crass, but straightforward and uncomplicated. The bottle is tear-drop shaped, and is designed to resemble a drop of pure vanilla. It is a sophisticated, yet simple, design and very appealing. The packaging is also environmentally friendly, including the inks used on the box.
Product - This fragrance is based on vanilla, with elements of dew-drop flower, jasmine, lotus, orchid and amber. The vanilla is sourced from Uganda vanilla bean growers in cooperation with an organisation called CARE supporting an initiative to help Ugandan women support themselves and their families. The first couple of minutes after application it has quite a strong, almost alcoholic smell, however, this softens and mellows very quickly. The vanilla is distinctive and clearly the dominant fragrance, but it is not sickly-sweet like some vanilla based fragrances. It is a soft, clean vanilla fragrance, light and delicate, I think Pure is the perfect description! The smell reminds me of summer and is very feminine. Despite the light fresh smell the fragrance is reasonably long-lasting, and so good value.
Pros - A young, summery fragrance, light enough to wear during the day. In my opinion it is a romantic smell. It's great to find a vanilla based fragrance that doesn't smell sickly or detergent-like. It would make a lovely gift for a discerning young lady.
Cons - The only disadvantage for me is the initial alcohol smell, but as this really does wear off very quickly (in less than 2 minutes) leaving a lovely fragrance, it wouldn't put me off buying it again.
What is pure? a way of life, simple, close to the heart. a drop of vanilla, a drop of good will. Pure DKNY strives to take small steps to help make a difference. Pure and simple.
