Advantages: Lovely smell and reasonably priced.

Disadvantages: None really.

I love my perfumes and never, ever dream of leaving the house without a perfume bottle safely tucked away in my handbag. My mum thinks I’m slightly mad in that I tend to apply it a few times a day and end up going through a bottle nearly every month but I prefer to refer to myself as just wanting to smell nice. I always appreciate it when I catch whiffs on perfume on other people and would hate for people to think I smelt bad and so it’s become almost a daily routine now.

One of my favourite perfumes at the moment is known as Light Blue. It was launched in 2001 by Dolce and Gabbana who have a varied range of scents for both men and women. This particular one doesn’t seem to be as popular as other items in their range so it’s a little more unique than some.

The Packaging

The first thing that struck me about the packaging of the perfume was the fact that the box it comes in is almost velvety to the touch which creates a very odd sensation. The box itself is light blue in colour, as is the plastic lid to the rectangular, glass perfume bottle itself. The frosted glass bottle stands easily on any surface and is ideal for carrying around in my handbag due to the robustness of the bottle. With regard to the modernity of the packaging I’d say this perfume could be due a revamp quite soon as it does look severely dated next to some of the more recent introductions onto the fragrance scene.

The Scent

This particular perfume has quite a floral fragrance which isn’t usually something I go for. The scent itself is quite heavy and sweet which is what my friends say I always look for in a perfume. It’s advertised as containing apple, bluebells, jasmine and white rose as well as having hints of amber and musk. In my opinion I’ve say there’s definitely some strong hints of citrus and also some very mild spices as well in the scent which create the slightly heavy appeal of it. It’s not a sickly sweet perfume though like Ralph Lauren Romance for instance.

I tend to only apply two sprays of the perfume as the scent itself is quite overwhelming, it’s the sort of smell that even when you’ve worn it for a few weeks it still hits you when you first apply it each day. It’s also a smell that will linger on your clothes, I find if I ever spray my clothes by accident and then put them away for a few days, the scent is still evident when I next wear them. I’d say that the perfume doesn’t have that much longevity on the skin, I find I have to reapply every 3-4 hours if I want the smell to remain as strong as it does fade quite easily.

The Range

I always find that at Christmas I get numerous perfume gift sets which contain a bottle of perfume and some other body product when really I’d be quite happy just to get a bottle of perfume – my family seem to think if they spend a little extra they get a much bigger box to wrap! Dolce and Gabbana, for this reason I think, have also produced a body lotion and a bath and shower gel.

The body lotion comes in a dark cream coloured tube which has a plastic circular lid at the bottom to enable it to stand upright on a shelf. The lotion itself is white in colour and is quite lightly perfumed with the Light Blue scent. It’s quite thin in consistency and absorbs easily into my skin leaving it soft and perfumed for a couple of hours. Sadly it’s not quite as moisturising as other brands I’ve tried in the past but the scent it creates does last for a good few hours on your skin.

The bath and shower gel comes in a white tube, similar to the above but it’s much wider than the body lotion tube. It’s a creamy coloured gel which lathers up really well in the shower and creates a fair amount of bubbles if poured directly under the bath water. The scent again is quite light and doesn’t really create as much of an impression as the body lotion.

Price

Boots
25ml perfume: £22.00 / 50ml perfume: £26.99 / 100ml perfume: £48.00
200ml body lotion: £26.00
200ml shower gel: £24.00

The Perfume Shop online
25ml perfume: £17.99 / 50ml perfume: £24.99 / 100ml perfume: £33.00
200ml body lotion: £19.99
200ml shower gel: £19.99

As you can see the actual perfume is quite reasonably priced, especially when you take into account that you can get a huge 100ml bottle for a mere £33.00. Despite the designer tag on this perfume, you’re luckily not going to have to pay a designer price to get it!

Thanks for reading!

I love Light Blue but haven't had any for a couple of years...there are so many perfumes to try! The new Paul Smith Floral perfume smells very similar to this.
