Advantages: Quite nice scent after the initial strength has calmed down
Disadvantages: Too strong at first, orange scent a bit too much
One item that is always on my Birthday/Christmas list is perfume because as far as I am concerned, you can never have too much and I am not a huge fan of cheap perfumes, hence why it goes on my list! I don't tend to request anything specific as my family know me well enough to know what I like and don't like and one perfume I received for my last Birthday was DKNY Women.
This is not a perfume that I had either seen or heard of previously so I was quite intrigued by it. Inside the box was a clear glass bottle which was quite tall and diamond shaped with a glass lid. The bottle is simple, yet has a nice elegance to it. The bottle isn't completely plain as it has the word DKNY down the side in a light, frosted writing.
As for the scent itself, I don't claim to be a perfume expert so at times I struggle to pick up certain notes in perfumes but there was definitely no mistaking this one! I sprayed it without checking what it was supposed to contain and immediately the smell of oranges hit me. This wasn't a subtle smell of oranges, it was quite strong and imposing and I thought if there were other notes in this perfume, they wouldn't be particularly noticeable as they would be pushed into the background by this rather strong orange smell.
According to the description of this perfume 'this fragrance provides a burst of energy with mandarin (they're not wrong!), chilled vodka and sunny daffodils. I like the sound of vodka and daffodils, though as I said, you can't make out either of these.
As this perfume was a gift, I've had to research the price of the perfume for this review and I have to say I was surprised. I received a 30ml bottle and I would have put this around the £20.00 mark, so I was quite surprised to see it retails in Boots stores for £30.00. I know Boots can be more expensive than other stores and you may be able to get it cheaper online as you often can, but if this is the general retail price for this perfume, I think it is overpriced.
If a bottle of perfume costs £30.00 or more, especially for a 30ml bottle, I would put it in the premium brands of perfumes and I just wouldn't class this perfume as a premium brand. I wouldn't put this in the same category as the cheap, tacky celeb brands that are being branded about these days so I would put it somewhere in the middle.
I have to say I am on the fence a bit with this one. The initial smell was a little off putting and I wasn't convinced I was going to like it, but once the smell has settled down onto your skin, it is actual rather nice and it leaves quite a sweet orange smell on your skin. If you aren't keen on the orange/mandarin scent then this definitely wouldn't be for you as this is all I could really smell and any other notes pale into insignificance as the main note is so strong and overpowering.
I was also a little disappointed in the longevity of this perfume as around 2-3 hours after use, I couldn't smell even the slightest hint of this perfume on me which was disappointing. Overall, this is ok, but certainly not the best I have tried and I will happily finish the bottle, but I wouldn't run out to purchase another bottle so I will give this one 3 stars.
Summary: An ok perfume by DKNY but not my favourite by a long way
