Advantages: cheap, appeals to some

Disadvantages: very heavy once applied

I first came across Red Door by Elizabeth Arden about 10 years ago, a friend used a perfume that smelt really nice and one day while at her house she'd left the bottle out. I had a quick sniff and established this was the perfume but never got around to buying some of my own.

I recently decided to buy a small bottle so whilst purchasing a few bits on direct cosmetics I noticed a 30ml unboxed bottle selling for £2.99 so I bought it.

The bottle is clear with a red lid. As I didn't get a box I can't comment on the box.

I smelt the perfume when it arrived and it smelt lovely, it smells expensive and I would say it's not aimed at particularly young women. Pleased with my purchase I tried some on my skin.

Initially I went for a spray on both wrists and my neck but soon realised this was too much. If you are prone to headaches from certain perfumes if you apply too much of Red Door your head will be banging.

I reduced the amount the next time I used it and found it smells better in the bottle than it does on skin. Once on skin it gets very heavy, I don't usually like heavy perfumes so this heaviness was a bit of a problem for me. It lasts hours too so if you like it that's great but if you don't it isn't!

I find it hard to describe smells but this reminds me alot of the perfume Chloe if that's any help! It's definitely not aimed at young women and I'd consider it an evening perfume too.

It's now available for a very small amount if you shop around, it used to be quite expensive but as it's aged it's got alot cheaper, I've seen it for £9 for the same amount I bought for £2.99 which isn't expensive as far as perfumes go.

I'm quite disappointed, it isn't an unpleasant smell but it is too heavy for me and I do get the aforementioned "perfume headaches" when wearing it so I'm going to have to either bin mine or give it away.

If you think you might like this definitely try a squirt on your skin before buying it, it really does smell very different once applied.

Summary: A very heavy perfume that can give you a headache

My mom-in-law just loves this stuff, but it is very powerful and definitely more of an evening scent. It has long staying power, but younger women probably would not like it.
