“ Brand: Elizabeth Arden / Type: Fragrance / Concentration: Eau de Parfum / Gender: for women „
I first came across this perfume as a student nearly twenty years ago, but it has stood the test of time.
I had been searching for the right fragrance, one that was really "me". I'd never really liked any of the cheapie scents available to teenagers, and ran a mile from Impulse, which was then all the rage. The Body Shop did a range of fruity or flowery scents back then too. Some I liked well enough, but not enough to wear one. Plus, they smelt the same on every girl and I wanted to find my own signature scent.
I like sophisticated yet simple, pretty and pure...and unique. After many wanderings around department stores spritzing from different testers (but never too many at a time. I'd done my homework and knew it was important not to "confuse" my nose!), and almost giving up hope, I spied this in the window of a little chemists' shop. I felt a flicker of hope in my heart!
Sure enough, the fragrance matches the packaging: sophisticated yet simple, pretty, pure and unique. There are flowery top notes, yet it's not over-sweet. It has a warm undertone, but not "fuggy" and overpowering. There is a freshness cutting through, but it's not at all sharp. Perfect!
Back to my story...well, by the time I spotted my True Love in the perfume world, I'd also met the love of my life. How romantic, thought I, if my True Love bought me my first proper perfume, "True Love"! Yes, that is utterly over-sweet, sentimental, cloying etc. (unlike the fragrance). However, it is also fact <blushes>. Being a true gentleman and hopelessly smitten with yours truly, even if I do say it myself, rather than puking in a bucket, my darling boyfriend bought me a bottle of "True Love". I've been using it ever since, and although I have since added several other excellent perfumes to my repertoire I can honestly say that this is a real favourite and I don't think it has dated.
Please don't let my schmaltzy story put you off buying what is, in my opinion, a truly excellent all-rounder perfume! It can be happily be used for daytime but packs enough of a punch to work in the evening too. The icing on the cake is that, now it's been out for a while, the price has come right down and it's now available for less than £10 for the eau de toilette version if you wanted to experiment without committing to the full eau de parfum. An amazing bargain for a quality product from a well respected perfume house. Enjoy!
I'm very much a perfume girl. I have twelve altogether, and which one I wear depends very much on my mood. My friends are appalled when I spend £40 on a perfume, but scent is everything, and I feel naked without a bit of perfume on. I generally prefer clean, fresh fragrances, such as Burberry Baby Touch and Flower by Kenzo, but this one is an exception! The one I wear when it is winter and I need cheering/warming up is Elizabeth Arden True Love, which also happens to be my cheapest perfume - my 50ml bottle cost me around £15 with a body lotion from The Perfume Shop, a discount perfume store at the Trafford Centre. Not sure if it's a chain or just a one-off shop, but it's worth a look if you're in there! The bottle itself is quite elegant - it is a thin, rounded rectangle shape, made out of pink glass, with a white lid. It has a gold rim with TRUE LOVE embossed at the side. The smell is very unique and difficult to describe - it is very warm and fruity, and warms you up instantly, but don't get me wrong; it's nothing like brandy! It's neither light or heavy, and is very sweet-smelling. It also has a hint of soapiness about it - it's very faint, but it's definitely there. I love this perfume - I wear this one the most next to Eau de FCUK (imagining getting that wrong and saying I smell of eau de f*ck!), and this is the one where I get the most compliments. My friend has compared it to Glow by J-Lo, and it's not true at all - in my opinion, Glow smells cheap and would make a great, if expensive, air freshener! This is ten times better, and also cheaper. It's quite an elegant, classy perfume - the one for the girls who can't afford Chanel 5, maybe! It settles down into a warm, fruity fragrance after an hour or so, and I have to resist the urge to sniff my wrists all the time! It does not last very long - if I layer it and dab a bit of the matching bod
y lotion onto my wrists before I squirt on some of the perfume, then it lasts all day. If not, it will have vanished by 2pm! However, it is an Eau De Toilette and I suppose six hours is reasonable.. I think you will like this perfume if you liked Flower by Kenzo, Eternity or Davidoff Cool Water. Definitely recommended! It is available in various sizes, starting from 50ml. Prices start from £15 upwards.
I first came across this perfume about three or four years ago. I was buying some eyeliner and the lady from Boots was clearing out the cupboards. She said "Do you want these?" and handed me about 8 little sample bottles!! As I wasn't really a perfume wearer and I assumed it was for the older lady I gave a couple to my mum and sisters. Obviously I was wrong about that! Having forgot about it for a couple of years I stumbled across it one day and decided to wear it. I found that I really liked it! I guess I was a bit suprised as I was 18 then. First of all it smells really warm and dry. It has a slight hint of vanilla, but not a huge amount. I wouldn't say it was fruity or flowery, more woody and there is definatley a sense of musk. Obviously perfume is quite personal, smelling different on every person. I've always found it quite hard to find a nice "posh" perfume to wear that suited me and this one does nicely! Well, I aksed for a bottle this christmas from my blokey, as all the samples had run out!! He went to buy some but they said it was discontinued!!! NO! Then I was on a mission to get hold of some!! I found it however in Asda, Superdrug, Bodycare and on Fragrancebay.com. So you can still get some!! It is £16.95 in Asda & Superdrug for a 50ml bottle and you get it as a set with some Body Lotion. On Fragrancebay its £17.00 for just the 50ml bottle (no p+p on 2nd class though!) Its lasting power is really good. I normally wear it everyday for uni but I wear it to go out at night too. You can dress it up or down! I tend to spray some on my T-Shirt as I'm spraying my neck, or I just put a splash of it onto my T-shirt anyway. I've found that sometimes I can still smell the perfume on my clothes the next day! It'll last all day, but if I'm going out I'll put another couple of squirts on, and it'll then last all night! I think its suitable for anyone from th
e older teenager upwards! I'm 20 now and have no worries about wearing it!!
