Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers Eau de Toilette
by Holland1
My mum wears this fragrance, and because she is notoriously difficult to buy for, she ended up with more bottles than she had use for after receiving them as gifts on various occasions. Being worried that they might go off before she had chance to use them, she donated a bottle to me. Never being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, ... I gratefully accepted.
The packaging for this is cheap and cheerful, with the bottle being a very simple flat shape with a plain white lid. This is encased in a yellow box with a sunflower on it. There isn't anything particularly luxurious or glamorous about this fragrance, but this is reflected in the price, with a 100ml EDT spray currently costing £16.99 from The Perfume Shop.
I was surprised to see just how many different notes there were in this fragrance:
* Heart Notes - Cyclamen, rose, pure jasmine, osmanthus, iris root
* Top Notes - Lemon, rosewood, orange blossom, mandarin, bergamot, melon, peach
* Base Notes - Musk, cedar, amber, moss and sandal wood
In my opinion it's quite a simple one-dimensional fragrance, and I can't really detect any aspects other than the smell of artificially sweet smelling flowers. I think it's a fragrance which is suitable for wearing during the summer months, as there is also a hint of fruit in there somewhere, but I certainly can't detect the musk elements, and this isn't a fragrance which changes very much throughout the day. It's not as complex as the various note elements would suggest.
I find this fragrance quite overpowering, although it is uplifting and to be honest I would describe it as cheap and cheerful. Although I find the scent to be quite artificial, it's a fragrance I can't quite dislike because my mum wears it, so it reminds me of her. It seems to suit my mum more than me, so maybe this is a case of perfumes smelling differently on different people. It's not one I would buy myself, however, and I'll probably only wear it now and then for a change from my usual perfumes.
Being an Eau de Toilette rather than an EDP, this one doesn't last for an entire day, and I think it's one that if you were to top up throughout the day it would have the potential to become quite sickly and overwhelming. It's probably best suited to daytime wear during the summer months, and as a cheep and cheerful uplifting fragrance.

Elizabeth Arden Spiced Green Tea Eau de Parfum
by rolandrat
===The Product===
Elizabeth Arden Eau De Parfum.
Plain glass bottle with image of peach leaf on the front.
Has plain peach coloured plastic lid.
Spray bottle, 5 ml or 50 ml.
===Varieties===
Green Tea
Green Tea Tropical
Spiced Green Tea
Lavender ... Tea.
===Cost===
Paid £3 for a 5 ml handbag sized bottle.
Currently the 50 ml bottle sells for £27 on Amazon.
===My Opinion===
Fragrantica websire state - 'an Oriental Spicy fragrance. Spiced Green Tea was launched in 2001. Top notes are ginger, rhubarb, lemon verbena, anise and lemon; middle notes are jasmine, tea and cardamom; base notes are labdanum, sandalwood, patchouli and incense'.
I bought the small handbag sized bottle a while ago online for £3. It was intended as a little something to go in my present drawer but I ended up using it for myself as I fancied a change.
The bottles of both sizes are the same and are quite nondescript and plain. The handbag size one however is good to carry around with you. The perfume itself is a good daytime fragrance and lasts for about 2 to 3 hours. It is light and refreshing but at the same time is sort of mellow and spicy. The main notes that I can detect are the ginger and lemon and possibly the sandalwood. Although spicy it is light enough to be used for the summer months as well.
Not one I would rave over but I am happy to finish using my bottle. I would not want to spend £27 on a large bottle but I would buy a small one again if it was on sale for around £3. This to me is just an ordinary every day sort of fragrance - not my favourite but nice enough to use and is better than having no perfume on and is not one that annoys me when I wear it.
So in effect just a good ordinary perfume - nothing special but quite adequate.

Elizabeth Arden True Love Eau de Parfum
by Starrynight24
I first came across this perfume as a student nearly twenty years ago, but it has stood the test of time.
I had been searching for the right fragrance, one that was really "me". I'd never really liked any of the cheapie scents available to teenagers, and ran a mile from Impulse, which was then all the rage. The ... Body Shop did a range of fruity or flowery scents back then too. Some I liked well enough, but not enough to wear one. Plus, they smelt the same on every girl and I wanted to find my own signature scent.
I like sophisticated yet simple, pretty and pure...and unique. After many wanderings around department stores spritzing from different testers (but never too many at a time. I'd done my homework and knew it was important not to "confuse" my nose!), and almost giving up hope, I spied this in the window of a little chemists' shop. I felt a flicker of hope in my heart!
Sure enough, the fragrance matches the packaging: sophisticated yet simple, pretty, pure and unique. There are flowery top notes, yet it's not over-sweet. It has a warm undertone, but not "fuggy" and overpowering. There is a freshness cutting through, but it's not at all sharp. Perfect!
Back to my story...well, by the time I spotted my True Love in the perfume world, I'd also met the love of my life. How romantic, thought I, if my True Love bought me my first proper perfume, "True Love"! Yes, that is utterly over-sweet, sentimental, cloying etc. (unlike the fragrance). However, it is also fact <blushes>. Being a true gentleman and hopelessly smitten with yours truly, even if I do say it myself, rather than puking in a bucket, my darling boyfriend bought me a bottle of "True Love". I've been using it ever since, and although I have since added several other excellent perfumes to my repertoire I can honestly say that this is a real favourite and I don't think it has dated.
Please don't let my schmaltzy story put you off buying what is, in my opinion, a truly excellent all-rounder perfume! It can be happily be used for daytime but packs enough of a punch to work in the evening too. The icing on the cake is that, now it's been out for a while, the price has come right down and it's now available for less than £10 for the eau de toilette version if you wanted to experiment without committing to the full eau de parfum. An amazing bargain for a quality product from a well respected perfume house. Enjoy! Read the complete review |
