Advantages: beautiful unusual fragrance, good lasting power
Disadvantages: other women will want to sniff at your man
A scent is always difficult to describe with words only, especially when you're enthusiastic about it.
Armani's own website describes it as the sensation of white cotton slipped over clean, fresh skin. It further calls it simple and direct. I'm not sure if I agree; simple - I'd call it complex, it defies being put into any category. Direct - it's not overbearing but demands attention by being unique and understated. You keep wanting more, the individual notes are impossible to guess at but the composition is irresistible.
The initial fresh notes of bergamot, lemon and mandarin soon settle into a soft spicyness composed of thyme and rosemary.
The outer packaging is tough white cellophane, similar to a packet of coffee that you tear open. The bottle is a simple white cylindrical design, plastic but with a rubbery texture to keep it from slipping. The spray nozzle is integrated into the design, and doesn't distract from the minimalistic shape. But you have to aim it carefully, the button seems to resist pressure at first, but then the liquid rather comes out in a a small stream. And, if not well aimed, you could easily waste the precious stuff.
Currently Boots only offers the Eau de Toilette, and only the 50ml at £33. I does come as a 100ml, and there is also an aftershave version. You might have to shop around for those and for different prices. Personally, I consider any price good value for something as special as this.
My/our own history with this fragrance was quite interesting too. A few years back I realized that a colleague smelt exceptionally nice. He answered my question regarding it with Givenchy Gentleman. Either he forgot or just guarded it as a special secret. I was very disappointed to smell the stuff he had named.
A while later, in a new work place, I detected the same wonderful fragrance, and this time got the real name. At this point I already knew my now husband, and I dragged him along to Boots for his opinion. It turned out he had liked this scent for a while but was afraid to ask about it in case it was a women's fragrance. Being quite a gentle smell it's not blatantly gender specific.
Of course, I surprised him with a bottle of it as soon as he'd started forgetting about it.
My only complaint is that he considers it so special he rarely uses it. So as an occasional reminder to him and to just get to smell it, I sometimes help myself. (I know there is a women's version of this, and probably quite similar. But it has to be this one for me too.)
To summarize, if you're male and prefer understated but not too common fragrances - this is a must. From what I hear, women's responses to it are more than satisfactory.
Again, if you're female, and the man in your life likes unusual and understated smells, put this on the top your list. You will be treating yourself in the process.
Summary: a memorable fragrance
