I first tried this perfume when I received it as a free sample with an aftershave my husband bought for himself. I probably would have never tried this perfume without the free sample as Escada is not really a brand I am familiar with so obviously their marketing worked by introducing new people to the perfume that would not usually buy it.
The trial size was just one of those little vials with a stopper in the top. Now normally I don't really like the smell of perfumes like this as they always seem to kind of smell the same no matter what fragrance they are but this one really captured my attention as its so powerful and different smelling and it has become one of my favourite fragrances.
Escada Rockin Rio was introduced in 2011 (probably why I received the sample as its a new fragrance) and is described as being, "Inspired by the ultimate holiday cocktail - the Pina Colada, and the best of fun times in the sun in Rio de Janeiro. Rockin' Rio has a sweet yet fresh and fruity character - achieved via the combination of tropical coconut and pineapple - that drives its uniqueness amongst the Spring/Summer collection. The top notes of Tangerine and Papaya give it a fresh, tropical zing bringing the smells of Rio to life, while the sweet heart notes of sugar cane and peach deliver the essence of the brand to the fragrance. At the base, the sexy harmony of soft, creamy sandalwood and musks deliver the lasting soft skin note."
I find this a really strong perfume and when I apply it I only really need a dab behind each ear and a dab on my wrists to get a nice even fragrance and one that lasts for hours. The smell is extremely fruity but it is a musky fruit smell rather than a sweet sickly fruity smell.
I loved the tester so much that I bought myself a bottle. At £19.99 for a 30ml bottle I didn't think it was a bad price and given that you only need a tiny amount at a time, this bottle will last me for months yet.
The design of the bottle is definitely in keeping with the fruity, Rio vibe. It is carnival colourful with strong oranges and yellows, beautiful bottle and beautiful smell!
I first came across this perfume a few years ago when I was abroad on holiday and I though the scent was gorgeous but I could never find it in any shops after I got back home so any time my mum was away on holiday I would make her bring some back for me. Eventually when I was out shopping to get a friends birthday present I finally came across it here and was so happy, so needless to say I bought it for them and they loved the scent as well.
The main aromas which can be smelt are very fruity such as pineapple and tangerine and also peach. Combinations of sandalwood and driftwood introduce lovely floral scents which make this perfume very feminine and more of a day wear and casual fragrance. The bottle is very eye catching and summery as it the bottom there is a yellow tinge and then it goes clear slightly and gradually goes to pink for about three quarters of the bottle. At the top there is a silver ring which goes round the bottle and says escada on it and then the lid which is tall and yellow. By the mixture of colours it creates a very appealing and fresh bottle which I think would attract people to testing it and further more buying the fragrance.
A great perfume which is very fruity and summery and suitable for all ages and great to wear of lovely bright summer days as it makes you feel great and all the more like it is summer.
Escada Rockin' Rio
I got this perfume in a Collector's Edition pack of 5 Escada Perfumes; Island kiss, Rockin' Rio, Pacific Paradise, Sunset Heat and Ibiza Hippie.
I first heard of Escada when I bought Pacific Paradise on the Ferry on the way to Italy, from then on the smell always reminded me of that holiday, and became one of my favourite perfumes. So when I saw this pack for £12.50 for 5 small bottles (4ml each), I just had to buy them to try them all, so I could choose my favourite one!
And I must say they were all delicious! With such strong fruity smells which stuck around all day, my only problem was there wasn't enough of it in the bottles, and I tended to use half a bottle each time I used it!
But it gave me a great experience of using them all so I could choose which ones I wanted in larger bottles rather than wasting my money on perfumes I might not like!
== Smell ==
Of course perfume is all about the smell, if the smell is disgusting but it comes in a pretty little bottle, then it's not really worth the money, and although not the nicest of all the Escada perfumes, this is still very nice.
Upon opening the bottle, you get a strong smell of that Escada smell which they all seem to have the same of, I don't know what it is, but all Escada perfumes have it!
When you first put the perfume on, it smells just like all the other perfumes from Escada, but when you put it on there is a very different smell. This has more of a spicy smell to it, and is quite oriental. It is actually quite a wintery smell and after a while the smell kind of turns more berry smelling, like spiced berries in a way.
There is no stinging in your nose when you smell the perfume even when your nose is right next to the bottle top, which to me means a good quality perfume.
The smell is actually very much like the Glade Scented Oils Wild Berry candle when it has been on for a while, which is weird as it is so different to how it smells when you first put it on, just showing how different perfumes can smell when they have been worn for a while.
The smell is extremely light smelling, and is a barely there smell which is lovely in a way as it doesn't over power you or the people around you, but also means you need to wear quite a lot of it if you want people to be able to smell it!
It is by no means my favourite Escada perfume, and the only one I have tried up to now which I don't think I would bother buying in a big bottle, not because it is unpleasant but because the others are nicer and have much stronger smells to them, meaning they last a lot longer.
== How Long does it last? ==
With this perfume, you forget it is there, and within an hour or two, even other people cannot smell it anymore, it is very light smelling which is why it disappears after a couple of hours unlike the other Escada perfumes, so it is only really good for daytime wear maybe for an interview or meeting, something which isn't going to last all day.
== When can I wear it? ==
Even though it would be acceptable to wear at night, I think this perfume as it is so light, is only really good for everyday use, maybe special occasion everyday use, as I said interviews and meetings, it doesn't last long on your clothes or skin, and will be easily over powered by other people's fragrances in the room if they are stronger in smell!
== What is the packaging like? ==
The bottle is the traditional love heart shaped Escada bottle, which is normal with all of their perfumes, with a yellow plastic lid, the bottle is then a bright pink colour, which then gradually goes into a yellow glass at the bottom of the bottle. Its a very light yet bright bottle, which makes me think of the perfume inside it as though Escada made it this light and airy fragrance on purpose to make it a little different from the rest of their perfumes which tend to be day/night perfumes which are a little stronger in the smell department.
The box is a simple rectangle, which matches the bottle inside, it's bright with a pink silhouette of a girl on the front which makes the perfume look fun, but different from the rest of the perfumes, apart from Ibiza Hippie, without the normal girl on the front of the box, making me once again feel like Escada were trying to make this perfume different than the others!
== In Conclusion ==
Rockin' Rio is a beautiful perfume, but is more for daytime use than night time, and not one I would purposefully pick up in a shop to buy again, although the smell is gorgeous as all the Escada perfumes are, it is too light for me and although that means it doesn't over power everything, it also means you have to keep putting it on throughout the day to keep the smell there!
On average the perfume costs around £35 a bottle (this is for a 30ml bottle), which is quite expensive really for a small bottle of perfume. And currently the perfume is not on Ebay.
All in all, I would give this perfume a 7/10.
