*** Escada ***
It's been several years since I first became acquainted with the Escada brand of perfumes. The bottle initially caught my attention, it was so colourful and vibrant and the name 'Rockin' Rio' conjured up all sorts of visions of carnivals and fiesta's, and happy times enjoying oneself on holiday. Therefore it was very apt, that this chance meeting was at a Duty Free lounge, as I was waiting for a flight to the Algarve.
Although I didn't purchase any at the time, I desperately wished I had, and hoped to buy some on my return. Two weeks passed in a whirlwind, and having arrived home with a 'stowaway' (my daughter), thoughts of this captivating perfume were forgotten amongst the excitement of my pregnancy.
*** Summery Fragrance ***
That being said, one year later, almost to the day, we were at the same airport, going to the same destination and fate came knocking. There, in all its glory was Escada perfume, once again. The bottle was the same, the vibrant colours were the same, and the holiday-ish name was the same. It was now called Pacific Paradise, and the fragrance was slightly altered, but it had the same unmistakable notes to it, a sweet sugariness. This time I wasn't leaving until I had it, and I purchased it there and then.
Since that time Escada has become my summer fragrance. Every year I buy the new Escada perfume; usually with some birthday money that I've been luckily enough to receive. :)
*** About Taj Sunset ***
Taj Sunset is only available as an eau de toilette, its 50ml (1.6 fl.oz.) bottle is large enough to last the whole summer long, even when you wear it every day.
The box is a traditional cardboard style, which is easily identifiable; its vibrant colours simply shout out 'look at me'. The fuchsia, mango, lemon and teal colours are unmissable.
The bottle, as always, is an upside down teardrop shape. Where it would normally be a point, this is flattened so that the bottle stands up easily.
The bottle is translucent with just a hint of orange. Where the glass is thicker, it gives a more intense colour and therefore you get a graduating ombre effect. Escada Taj Sunset is written on the reverse of the bottle, and a design reminiscent of an Indian Henna tattoo is applied to the front.
*** The Fragrance ***
Enough waffling about the bottle, I hear you say? What does it smell like? According to the Escada website, this a sweet and smooth scent with a tropical mango fruit note and a velvety cream twist, a contrast that perfectly embodies the adventure and exoticism of summer in Goa.
While that is all well and good - what initially hits you is the sweetness. If you do happen to try a tester, please try it on your skin, and not on the cardboard tester strips. The sweetness is intense and zingy, and reminds me of oranges, and mangoes; Fruity with a tropical sharpness.
Within moments this dies down, and the middle notes come through. These are still fruity but with a slight floral edge. I can't say to my untrained nose what these are but a glance at the Escada website tells me that this flirty scent is due to water lily, lotus flowers, sweet pomorose, star apple and raspberry. I can detect the raspberry fruitiness coming through, but the water blossoms are such subtle scents there's no way I can pick each individual bouquet. This eau de toilette mellows on the skin wonderfully; it almost becomes a dessert scent, rather like peaches and cream.
The final layer is subtle and totally at the other end of the spectrum to when it was first applied. It's said to be coconut cream, musk and sandalwood. It's warm and captivating, and yet mysterious. I absolutely adore it. This is summer in a bottle, not an English summer, I admit, mores the pity.
This is definitely a day time perfume, or even going out with friends. For evening use on romantic dates, this is too light, and fruity. It might be intense in fragrance but it's also sweet and citrusy, some may even say too sickly, to be an evening perfume; it lacks headiness and that voluptous scent that you'd more likely require then.
*** Silage ***
Even though it's a fragrance I love, it's a little annoying to have to re-apply. It has moderate silage (the way that the perfume lingers and wafts). I get lots of people asking what I'm wearing whenever I wear this perfume, but to be completely honest, it's usually not long after I've reapplied. I would say that a spritz of Taj Sunset in the morning will take me through until lunchtime, at which time I'll reapply and that will take me through to the evening. It is only an eau de toilette so that's pretty average I would say.
*** Where to Buy ***
At the time of reworking this review (May 2013) this is currently on sale on amazon.co.uk for a rather more befitting £18.00 including postage and packaging. This perfume was limited to the summer of 2012 and as such will not be available to purchase in most stores that sell perfumes or on the Escada website. I'm glad to see it's still available to purchase though, I might treat myself to another as I only have a trickle left in mine. I would say that £18 is a truer reflection of the price of this perfume; I feel that the £33 that I paid last year was a little overpriced for its longevity.
*** My Thoughts ***
In conclusion, the Escada ranges of perfumes are my summer signature scent, I absolutely love them. This one has got to be one of the best though. I just hope you can get past the initial sickly sweetness, and give this a go, as the fragrance that lingers longest, is the most wonderful, warm, summery scent imaginable.
Even though this was a scent limited to last year, it still gets a big thumbs up and 5 out of 5 from me.
Many thanks for reading my review.

Escada have done it again. Each year they make me fall in love with their fresh fruity summer scents and then they take them away. This scent was no exception. Taj Sunset is a limited edition scent that smells incredible. It's a lovely fruity smell with nectarine, oranges, and a subtle flowery scent mingled in. It settles to a base scent of something coco nutty, with maybe a hint of musk.
The bottle is a beautiful tapered shape that is bright and colourful mimicking the tropical scented contents, and has a simple silver lid. I realise that the scent may not suit everyone's skin type, and that it may not be to everyone's tastes, but it really is worth smelling this fragrance. It is the perfect perfume for summer if we ever get one, and if we don't this is the smell that may help lift our spirits.
Every time I wear this I get comments, as with all of those wonderful fruity tones it really does smell good enough to eat.
However there is a down side to the scent, in that it doesn't last as long as some others do. It does need to be refreshed though the day as it the smell does mellow, and then seems to disappear. (Not that I mind refreshing it as you get all the fresh fruity tones back).
Currently prices on-line are varying, however there are some wonderful bargains out there and it can be bought for around £12 (I may have to stock up for next summer - if we get one)...
Taj Sunset is the perfect perfume for summer. It's made by Escada and was a gift from a client at Christmas, I liked it instantly as it has such a light and fruity fragrance. I don't think the bottle is very imaginative and for the price they could have done better, this looks like a perfume out of the Avon book.
The fragrance of Taj Sunset is quite intensely fruity with a very faint flowery layer. It is mainly a citrus fragrance but that's softened with a strong mango fragrance, it's not a typically musky perfume but a lighter than usual musk does occur after I've been wearing the perfume for 2 hours and then it's always there in the background.
A fresh sweet berry fragrance is apparent for quite a long time in the perfume, it gives the perfume an extra sweetness that starts cancelling out the citrus and rounding the perfume out to a smoother level. It has got quite a juicy fragrance and the fruit notes give it a very tropical fragrance, it's one I'd wear in the summer or spring but not necessarily during the cold months as it's just not a strong enough perfume.
It doesn't last for very long, I estimate under five hours and after that it needs to be reapplied. The spray doesn't dispense a large amount of perfume with each press, and you need to hold it close to your skin as it provides a wide arc of spray which gets lost in the air instead of landing on my skin.
I think this perfume is beautiful. It's ladylike and fresh with a refreshing light fragrance, it's a shame it's doesn't last long as it means my bottle will be gone quicker but it's worth it to have such a refreshing and attractive perfume.
4 Dooyoo Stars.
From the very first second I took a sniff at this Taj Sunset, my mind wondered towards the months of summer, as this is a very "summery" scent, fruity, fresh and exotic! I would say that this is not a perfume for women of the age of 50 and up, as it`s very young and bubbly in its mixture of scents, but b all means, it`s all about personal taste and what you enjoy to wear!
At Boots you can buy this bottle for 30.99, 50 ml bottle, a quite budget friendly and reasonable cost. The bottle looks very exotic and nice, with a original and outstanding design, making it perfect as a gift for teenage girls especially. It is a very exotic and fruity perfume, perhaps a bit too much for my liking, but then again, it`s summer, it`s flowers, it`s sensual!
I would say that this perfume lasts about eight to nine hours on the skin, but I would bring it with me on a night out and "respray" during the night... This is a very summer like scent with lots of fruit and flowers in its mix, and for those lovely months of sun and summer, this is a perfect perfume! Fresh, refreshing, sweet and flowering!
This is a tropical, fruity & light perfume that I wear on a daily basis. I have always been a fan of Escada perfumes and was delighted when I smelt this one for the first time as I absolutely love it! It's reasonably priced and I personally feel it is great value for money as I find once I have sprayed the perfume on myself in the morning I rarely need to top it up again , only on occasions if I am going out in the evening and need a bit more but other than that it tends to last all day. I love the packaging and bottle that it comes in too it has real summery look to it which is also reflected in the smell. Overa I think this perfume is great value for money and a worthwhile investment as it lasts a decent amount of time considering I use it every day!
This perfume retails for £33 for 50ml from Boots stores and many other Perfume stockists.
'Taj Sunset is the vibrant new summer limited edition fragrance from ESCADA; a sweet and smooth scent with a tropical mango fruit note and velvety coconut cream twist, a contrast that perfectly embodies the adventure and exoticism of summer in Goa. '
The bottle, like the perfume, is simple yet sophisicated and the glass is of a ombred orange - yellow colour. It is easy to hold and also stands easily by itself.
THe scent itself is light and refreshing and definately fruity. I often find other perfumes are too musky for me but this is far from that.
If I spray this on my skin in the morning, even if just one sprist, I will still be able to smell it by the evening.
It is dissapointing that this is Limited Edition as it is so perfectly sweet and fruity! It is definately my go-to summer frangrance that if you haven't tried you need to.
Taj Sunset is an exotic, juicy and summery fragrance that opens with notes of Alphonso mango, nectarine and blood orange, leading into a heart that features aquatic flowers with raspberry and pomarosa, resting on a base of coconut, sandalwood and musk.
