      Unisex scent from ESPRIT

[Esprit: French, from Latin spritus, English: spirit]

ESPRIT are an international fashion chain with a number of outlets in the UK, mainly in and around the London area. Their trademark white ESPRIT logo on warm red background can be easily identified.

Initially a company formed in San Francisco in 1968 is now majority German owned. That's probably why I always thought it was a German fashion label.

Connect Her? Connect Him? No, Connect Us!

Connect Us by Esprit was first introduced in 2007. It is freely available in a lot of shops on the continent but to find it in the UK, you are more or less restricted to online shopping. And without knowing the scent, it's a bit of a lottery whether or not the scent will suit.

I am very fond of most things Esprit and have always wanted to try the perfumes/Eau de Toilettes. Without really knowing what I was letting myself in for I ordered Esprit Connect 'For Us' in the Esprit online shop. I knew I could return it if I didn't like it but I preferred not to get into that situation in the first place.

Connect for Us is the Unisex version of the Connect Eau de Toilette range which includes 'for Her' and 'for Him' both scents specifically designed of either man or woman. 'for Us' should be suitable for both, men and women, or at least that is the idea, much like CK One or CK Be which are both Unisex scents.

I looked online to see what scent I was about to get. I am quite fond of fruity scents. One of my favourite scents are from the DKNY range. I also like scents that are subtle and not too much in your face.

I ordered online and paid £19.95 for 50ml of Eau de Toilette. It took about 5 days for the delivery to arrive with me (mainly because I had given them the wrong postcode and the package was delayed by a day).

I was in the office when the package arrived and I opened it straight away. Knowing I would receive the package, I didn't put on any perfume that morning, hoping that the new one would meet my expectations.

      The Flacon

The eau de toilette is delivered in a simple glass bottle, rectangular, wider than high and a simple oval lid covering the spray nozzle. The back of the bottle is printed with the words Us, as well as Him, Her, Me and so on.

Pushing the spray nozzle will deliver a quite large amount of eau de toilette and it may feel quite wet when it first hits you. But this won't last, the liquid will evaporate quite quickly due to the alcohol content.

      What Does it Smell Like?

Connect For Us can be divided into three initial scent notes:

Top notes are: fig, tangerine, apple, blackcurrant and litchi

When first applying the eau de toilette you will notice a very strong fruity scent, and Fig is one of the most prominent scents. You will also quickly realise the tangerine and apple scents. This will only last a short moment until the alcohol appears to evaporate to make room for the next layer of scent, the middle notes.

Middle notes: tuberose, orange blossom, violet and a sea breeze accord

I can't say that I notice much of these middle notes as they blend nicely into the base notes that appear ever too quick for some people but I quite like it when the base notes linger more than the top and middle notes. In the case of Connect For Us you will have:

Base notes: cedar, apricot, peach, amber, vanilla and musk

What I noticed more than anything is the vanilla and musk base notes that melt into the lovely powdery scent that will linger on you skin without you really noticing as well as sticking to your clothes and make the scent last longer.

The scent itself appears to disappear quite quickly during the day and there is a strong desire to reapply the scent. But I have also noticed that sprayed onto textiles, it will stay for a long time, even into the evening and will give the wearer a long lasting feeling of smelling fresh and beautiful.

All in all, I would say that the scent is pretty flowery as well as fruity. The overtones are quite sweet so I would not necessarily recommend this to men. It will be a little too sweet for most. I love it and enjoy putting on the scent for work. But I have also tried it for evenings and it made quite an impression on friends who thought the scent was very expensive yet understated.

So far, all I can say is that I had nothing but positive reaction to the new fragrance. After all, it's not easy buying a scent without having tried it first but I can honestly say that I did not regret buying it and will do so again as soon as the current bottle is empty.
