I am an avid collector of perfumes and fragrances, as I have mentioned in previous reviews, particularly those bought from department stores. Unfortunately Cinnabar by Estee Lauder is one of the few perfumes I have bought which really isn't too my liking what so ever.
I was instructed to buy this from my Mum for her christmas present, as she said it was always one of her favourite perfumes from decades ago, and gave me the "it's been years since someone bought me a perfume" line. Now, considering I'm a student at uni on a budget, £37 on a perfume at that particular time when I was halfway through my first year would normally be too much, but as it was for my Mum (and for christmas) I decided to forfill her wishes and buy her this.
Upon first spray on the tester bottle, I was that taken aback by the strong whiff it gave off (it actually made me cough!), I rang my Mum to confirm it was REALLY the perfume she wanted for christmas. She said yes it is, and something about stop moaning daughter.
The bottle the perfume comes in is okay, and reflects the fact that the perfume it contains is a well established scent, however as a design student I always take the design of the bottle/packging into considering and I have to say it looks as if it is straight out of the 80's and needs a bit of a re vamp. There are far cheaper perfumes out there with a much more imaginative bottle design, and when the contents of the perfume is the colour that it is, I don't think a transparent glass design is at all appropriate!
This dislike of Cinnabar may come as a shock to others on here that rate this perfume very highly, but personally I just really dislike the strong house-hold detergent aroma this perfume gives off (to put it less politely, its smell reminds me of cat wee - sorry!!). The colour of the perfume doesn't help this thought either...
Despite my strong reservations about Cinnabar, it did make my mum very happy when she opened this on Christmas day. I would say if you know beforehand that the person you are buying it for if it's not for yourself, definately likes this perfume and has had it before then it's a great buy. However for someone who prefers floral, more feminine scents that are not overpowering (and won't give you temporary bronchitis!), I really wouldn't reccommend this which is unfortunate, as I generally rate Estee Lauder very highly.
This is such an underated perfume from Estee Lauder.
Has what can only be described as a heavy rich spicy oriental smell with it's overriding fragrance being jasmine. It has been out since the late 70's but has stood the test of time and still smells modern. I always receive compliments when I wear it !
For reasons unknown it isn't heavily promoted by Estee Lauder. Some concessions don't stock it at all and others that do just have a couple of bottles out on the bottom shelf. They obviously still sell enough to keep producing it so why it isn't more widely sold amazes me ! I always buy a bottle of this as a Christmas present for someone and I always live in hope that it will form part of a Christmas box set. It never does ..... !
Is quite an expensive purchase. The last bottle of eau de parfum (50 ml) set me back the best part of £40.
If you are want a true classic timeless fragrance that will stand the test of time look no further than Estee Lauder’s Cinnabar!! Estee Lauder was founded in 1946 in Queens, New York and is now one of the world’s leading manufacturers of quality skin care, makeup and fragrances. One of its all time classic fragrances; Cinnabar was launched in 1978. Cinnabar is different to the modern day so called designer fragrances, it is rich, warm and ever lasting..it is completely different.... it is a true classic. It is often an underrated perfume mainly due to its lack of availability. The instant you try Cinnabar perfume on you are drawn in by its mystical powers…. its spicy, exotic, mysterious and rich. It is the ideal fragrance to wear in the cold wintery nights, romantic dinners etc and creates a sense of warmth and richness about it. In a Class of its own in every sense. Cinnabar actually means a heavy reddish mercuric sulphide which is the primary ore of mercury. The pigment that makes it so red is ground cinnabar. Dont worry its not toxic..though it is endlessly appealing!!! Cinnabar comes in a clear, rectangular shaped bottle with a “spicy” red colour cap!! It gets its exotic feel from the jasmine and mandarin notes. It also contains incense, amber, patchouili. The exotic feel and warmth of incense is quite appealing at Christmas time!! It is available at most large department stores such as Debenhams, Selfridges, Fenwick, Rackhams to name but a few. But you may find that all the range of products are not available such as fragranced talc powder, body lotions, shower gel etc. You should be able to find the basic perfume..which is all you need really ..its such a classic. So how much is this Classic fragrance cost..then (I hear you say..) Average retail price in UK is approx. £25 for 30ml, other sizes available are 50ml. You may find this product cheaper on the int
ernet as low as £25 per 50ml at places such as firedup.com, strawberrynet etc, though please be careful when ordering from some sites as sometimes the fragrances is without the original box..so may therefore not be suitable for a gift..but if its for yourself, go straight ahead folks and treat yourself!! You will save yourself a few pounds without compromising on quality of the substance!! Overall, It is in a Class of its own: Cinnabar is warm, spicy, mysterious and eternally appealing. Wish yoo all Happy and "Warm" Christmas.
If you haven't ever smelled Cinnabar then your in for a big surprise. This perfume smells so good that everybody will compliment you especially your husband or boyfriend. The only thing about this cologne for one thing it's very hard to find(you mainly can get at the malls) and the price it's pretty expensive brand of perfume but well worth the money. This would make a great gift for your wife or girlfriend. They will truly love it and you even more.Women try it you'll love it.
