Gucci Eau de Parfum is a floral, musky oriental (depending on your nose), that first appeared from the ethers of Tom Ford's imagination in 2002, brought to life by perfume nose Daniela Roche. It is not to be confused with the similiarly titled Gucci by Gucci, which came later (why Gucci persist in blandly confusing perfume names is a mystery). I have had a lasting affair with this perfume for almost a decade now. Trends come and go, but for me, this remains a signature scent for cooler (this year bloomin' Arctic!) temperatures.
What makes this glistening, brandy coloured liquid (to sound as battily Nigella-esque as possible!) so special? Even the heavy glass cube it comes in is more akin to a crystal decanter than a perfume bottle. For me, it is a complete perfume experience, in that it starts out as one thing and transforms in its base notes into something increasingly, deeply beautiful. It's rather spicy and unquestionably heady to start with, with a mildly unpleasant blast of sharp herbs. It flirts with being cloying without going over the top, unlike many more popular fragrances (cough Angel). It is sweet, but it very quickly smells more seductive than blatant. The citrus and dry spicy notes I would think cause this.
It is unquestionably an earthy scent, I have seen the musky base notes often described as "dirty", with the enjoyable perfume tome Perfumes:The Guide going so far as to describe it as "sleazy". Gosh, I felt a bit offended at that as this is hands down my favourite scent! The implication I take away from this is that it is too good, too enjoyable, to be a perfume aesthetic's creme de la creme! There is something a bit boozy and seductive about it, it blends in with its wearer in my opinion and you don't feel your perfume is wearing you, rather the opposite. It is sexy, undeniably, but less obvious than many others in my experience. It is more velvet than satin, if that makes sense.
Within half an hour of application the pretty scent of orange blossom subtly emerges from beneath the layers of balsam and sweet musk. In using citric florals like orange blossom, combined with the dense sweetness of heliotrope, and the spicy hint of cumin, this remains ever so slightly crisp in amongst all the woodiness on me. The herbs, which smell a bit tinny to start with, settle down to round the musk into something more interesting than your basic vanilla musk combination. After several hours' wear it does become slightly more muted and universally palatable, so I would advise anyone trying this to give it a chance if they don't enjoy the start. It has excellent staying power, especially on me as many perfumes disappear on me rather easily.
I would highly recommend this to fans of floral musks, and for those who shudder at the thought of Poison or Opium (which are too strong for me), give it a chance to evolve when trying it for the first time, it is not quite so potent once it settles. It is undeniably heady and female, I find it far too strong in the summer and possibly daylight (although I am wearing it right now for research sake!). It is always a pleasure to wear and always feels a little bit decadent - somehow I never get bored of it. I have had my current bottle for a couple of years now and it has aged with little if any change (I think perhaps the top notes start a bit sharper but it ends up exactly the same), unlike some other perfumes I own.
I hope you will give it a sniff, it has been around for a while now and for whatever reason Gucci don't bother promoting it in favour of its newer, inferior (in my opinion!) perfumes. I think it's a modern classic and wearable for most, although perhaps slightly too mature for the very young perfume wearer. It is a slightly less common scent than some others so you won't have the Coco Mademoiselle factor of wearing the same perfume as every other woman in the room in most cases! If buying as a gift, if your giftee likes spicy and sweet things, this might tick the right box, if she's more into cool, watery or candy scents this might not be to her taste. It's all subjective, for me this is my amber box of golden, glorious spice spasms (sweet Lord, I have been watching too much Nigella!).
Gucci Eau de Parfum
Top notes: orris, heliotrope, orange blossom, and vanilla absolute.
Middle notes: citrus, cumin, and thyme.
Base notes: patchouli, vanilla, and deep musk.
I am quite loyal to my regular perfumes as once I like a smell I tend to stick with it. I have had Gucci Eau de Parfum sitting unopened for a while now. Purely because I love the packaging and I have been a little scared by it strong scent which I have smelt before. But after coming to my senses and realising I really need to use it I have recently decided to give this a go.
** Perfume Packaging **
A part of me truly wonders what the fascinating people at Gucci were thinking when they made this bottle. The bottle is itself indeed very glamorous and definitely made to be on a dressing table somewhere rather fancy. The Gucci brand is known for its 'square' design. The solid square thick glass bottom and hefty circular glass lid definitely highlights quality and being three high-end glassmakers: Saint Gobain, Pochet, and Brosse, it definitely isn't for the faint hearted. At the very least it stands as a brilliant paper weight or door stop! It really is that heavy, so not one for carrying around in your handbag. The distinct packaging allows you to see the deep amber liquid on the inside, which automatically gives me an impression that the scent is going to be relatively deep and heavy. It also concerns me that there is a lot more bottle then perfume! However, depending on how good the spray is will depend on how long the liquid will last. When I do eventually finish the perfume, the bottle is so striking and high-class that I will have to keep it. It really is a small piece of art in its own right.
The packaging portrays the Gucci brand perfectly. Robust, glamorous, effortless and simply stunning.
** The Heart Notes **
The heart scents (otherwise known as the middle notes) are what makes up the main body of the perfume and is usually what catches the most attention and appeal. The heart notes are most apparent within an hour of wearing the perfume and generally last throughout the life of the perfume on the skin. So when people ask 'oh what's that smell?' it's usually these notes that they can sense.
Patchouli, orange blossom, vanilla, citrus, cumin, thyme and musk.
All of the main notes really give the fragrance a deep well blended and seductive scent. But without it being to stuffy, the orange blossom and citrus lightens it up just perfectly and the musky scent forms together really well with the vanilla to stop it being too suffocating. The Patchouli and citrus also adds a small zing to the otherwise flat scent.
** Wearing The Fragrance **
This really is an alluring fragrance that I was surprised at how much I liked. Definitely a warm and deep smell, to fit in perfect with the Autumn and winter weather. It does spray really well and you only need a couple of sprays as the aroma comes out very heavy and quite sharp. It is really unlike me to want to wear anything that isn't fruity and light but this really does get to you and grows on you! The deep romantic aroma is very spicy at first, which I think originally put me off the perfume, however it lightens out into something you can't stop sniffing! A light but strong vanilla at first but lightens out into quite a crisp citrus scent and the blossom really comes out.
The fragrance is really strong which in my opinion shows the quality of not only the liquid but also the expertise in the scents being blended together perfectly. Ii isn't something that lingers for hours but does give a subtle sexy smell throughout the day. A few sprays of this and your inner goddess will automatically appear. The perfume lasts a good few hours on the skin and really develops after 20 minutes or so. I don't like to reapply this often as this is one of the few perfumes that I prefer when the scent has actually settles. The powdery after scent is really soft and this is what makes me want to keep wearing the perfume. The first couple of minutes tend to have that suffocating effect so it is always good to spray this before leaving the house. But after a few attempts I have become extremely fond of this perfume.
** Price, Availability & Other Products **
As with most perfumes the price varies depending on where you got and what size you get. I would always advice you to look online as there are so many perfume retailers now. I bought mine for £30.00 for 50ml from The Perfume Shop. The usual places such as Boots etc have it on sale for around the same price. Although I would advise you to have a look online as this perfume tends to cost around £40-£50 for the 50ml.
Gucci Eau De Parfum also comes in-
Eau De Parfum Spray 30ml / 50ml / 100ml
Body Lotion 150ml
Deodorant Spray 100ml
Shower Gel 150ml
** Recommendation **
Launched in 2002, as you would expect, this Gucci perfume really is timeless. It really comes across as a sensual fragrance that lingers on the skin for a lot longer then I imagined, definitely down to the quality of the perfume. Being quite a heavy, but alluring scent it is perfect just before going out for the evening or first thing in the morning so it lingers throughout the day. However, I wouldn't use it as a pick me up throughout the day and it is definitely a winter perfume and not a summer fragrance.
I think this is a pretty good perfume as a present. In general it is a classic strong perfume but even if the person doesn't wear it often they will definitely bring it out for special occasions. Obviously the Gucci name is one that always goes down well and the gorgeous bottle looks good on the eye. Gucci reportedly wanted this to somewhat of an androgynous perfume, a unisex product to the mass market. Hence the slight spiciness to the scent. I can see this working as it does have a strong twist at the beginning, but in my mind I still find that the orange blossom and vanilla give it a slightly more luscious feminine touch. Sorry guys!
100% recommended. Long lasting, warm, rich, zesty and seductive. A true Gucci Love potion.
Thank you for reading!
Gucci perfume is by far one of the most superior in the world. And with any of their perfumes you will rarely be disappointed. The aroma lingers for a good while - which gives an excellent saving in the long term. You will certainly be noticed wearing this fine perfume - which is ideal to wear night or day. The citrus flavour of orange blends beautifully with the vanilla. Rarely is such a perfume readily available at such a fabulous price. This is offered at a very reasonable and "credit-crunching" price. It would make an ideal present for a wife, girlfriend or just someone you really like. Or even treat yourself! It will make a fine accompaniement to your perfume collection. If there is just one perfume you buy this year - make sure it is this one. It will be one of your best buys to date - guaranteed!!
I think that this perfume smells amazing. My best friend bought it for me for a moving away presesnt. I was amazed that she would buy me this perfume becuase i had always conisdered it as a high socialca status womans perfume. I was really pleased when i found out it wasnt actually too expenisve at all becuase i was running low on it and definatyl wanted another bottle. It is now one of my favorite smells and im very happy that i was intoducted to it. it always reminds me of being young and walking past someone at school who always smelt nice but they were older or cooler than you so you never said anything to them. I love this smell so much, its quite musky and is quite warm too. I would recomend this to anyone who wanted to show abit of class in the way the smelt.
I really love to write reviews about Gucci perfumes, because their fragrances can really tell a lot about the women who are wearing them. I think Gucci has a nice selection of fragrances and every women can find something for her. I believe Gucci fragrances has very luxurious smell and some women can have a problem to wear them through the day and can think that Gucci fragrances are only for evening.
When I go shop for new perfume I always want try something new, because I get really quick sick from one smell, so I need to have a nice selection of fragrances at home. At first I love to smell the fragrance at paper and if I like it I apply on my wrist. Then I wear it all day long and see if I don't get sick from it. But another thing I like to do is imagine the person who are going to wear this perfume.
Gucci by Gucci is for me very original, luxurious and also a little bit heavy fragrance. If I close my eyes, I can imagine who is wearing this perfume. It is young lady in her late twenties, wearing heavy fur coat somewhere in cold winter in Russia. She is strong woman with icy eyes, but beautiful face. She likes to have attention and she knows when she is wearing her Gucci everybody will notice her. She knows when she kiss the man on the cheek, he will close the eyes and smell her femininity. Suddenly she disappear but he still can smell her Gucci. This is how I imagine someone wearing it.
Gucci by Gucci is not luxurious only inside but also outside. packaging is very nice and bootle has square shape and to me it describes again, how strong the fragrances is. Now I don't mean heavy but strong smell for strong women. That's why I think Gucci by Gucci is for real women and not for girls, for women with strong personality and for those who know what they want. The prize can be expensive , but now you are really paying for originality, quality and also for of expression. I find 2.5 oz Eau de Parfum for $62.23 on www.perfume.com. I am sure if you will look more around the internet you can find better prizes. Now you maybe think it is still kind of pricey, but you really don't need much of this perfume. You need only one or two spritz and it will last for all day. The most important thing about this perfume is to know how to wear it, with proud ness and with the head up.
Consistence of Gucci by Gucci is blend of orris, vanilla, citrus, thyme, heliotrope and orange blossom. It is hard to explain how this all together could smell and I wish to spritz you a little bit on you wrist when you are reading this review to understand perfection of this fragrance more. Try to imagine smell of something spicy, but also sweet and delicate this is how the Gucci by Gucci smell.
There are three facts I love about this perfume.
It is not for everyone, so when you own this perfume and wear it you are standing out of crowd.
Gucci by Gucci last for long time and I am sure many people will ask you for the name of fragrance you are using.
The bottle and all packaging is luxurious and when you are giving this perfume as a gift, you feel like you are giving something special, not just perfume, but guide to other woman how to convey her personality.
Thanks for reading
This perfume is absolutely gorgeous and I'm so happy to be writing a review on it! An ex, John bought it for me a few years ago and I've bought it ever since as I simply adore it.
It wasn't the one I had dropped hints for when asked what I wanted for Christmas but he was a new boyfriend at the time so I didn't like to say anything and although he had said oh I'll take it back if it's wrong when my eyes must have shown disappointment I tried to smile through my pain! However although I was a bit disappointed because I knew this must have set him back a second morgage and what I wanted I really did want and like and costed probably half the price of this one I was thrilled he'd chosen it and liked it and believed it was 'me' when he explained his reasons for buying it. I decided on the spot on the train we were on as I opened it up and sniffed it that I was keeping it even it smelt the roughest most nasty crap in the world (well I had to once I opened it up lol). I'd just always think he'd think of me as crap lol
It comes in an almost black box and a square glass see through bottle with a thick round lid over a silver sprayer. The liquid is a rich dark deep honey colour. It's very very nice packaging if a little masculine but it does look unusual and robust on my dressing table.
At first sniff it smells of pencil sharpenings and just not nice at all. I remember feeling very disappointed at first sniff and not wanting to say anything still lol but I sprayed the scent on my wrist and walked round the town and when it calmed down it was just stunning and I've been in love ever since.
It's an oriental floral fragrance like no other! I'm sure none like you've probably smelt before! It's just so distinctive and unusual.
The scent is said to be a mingle of Iris, Cumin and Musk and very deep indeed. It's so smooth and rich and decadent and layered. It's a long laster and you don't need to keep topping up the fragrance as a little of this goes a very long way and you can over do it. Less is so definitely more with this and in my view certainly most suited for evening use unless you have a power lunch!
No age range for this you either love it or you hate it and I wouldn't just buy a bottle for anyone that I didn't know if they liked it or not as it really is an acquired taste. I would say you'd have to be quite confident to wear this fragrance and it is classy and would probably appeal more to a more mature lady or a woman who likes very heavy, lasting scents and likes to make an impression. This fragrance does so you have to be brave and people do usually make comments and it is as I stated earlier an acquired taste so be ready for negative remarks lol
It comes in two sizes in the Eau De Parfum , 30ml and 50ml.
Best Price I can find:
Gucci Original 'For Women' 30ml Eau De Toilette £17.04, Cheapsmells.com.
This is incredibly cheap compared to the prices I've paid on the high street of late believe me and it is getting harder to find this fragrance as there are so many Gucci fragrances saturating the market. Do look around and do be aware of fakes of this one cos I've seen them. Also this review is not for Gucci 'Gucci' which has been released onto the market since I wrote this review originally. The one I am reviewing to clarify is Gucci 'Original'. Big difference as Gucci, Gucci is much lighter in fragrance and not even one I like lol
This review is also posted on ciao under this same username.
Well, I seem to have slipped back into my dooyoo thong
I mean thang
I mean thing *blush* and feeling the words desperate to escape from my fingers I pondered my living room for something to write about. At this point, as if on-cue Mr Fish walks passed and sniffs the general air around me cor, you smell bEautiful pet he says as he floats through the room and towards the general vicinity of the fridge. *DING* (inspiration hits) Get me a beer babe I shout Im busy writing an op about me current pong
Im quite a low-maintenance bird really. So long as I have some form of entertainment and a certain level of blood in my alcohol stream, Im quite content wearing nothing but a smile and a favourite Perfume (ooer missus!) Bizarrely, this is very true of me. I dont feel right if I leave the house without a squirt of something pleasant adorning me (please try and keep your minds out of the gutter people, this is a serious opinion or at least it will be in a moment or two).
I have, over the past few years become quite fond of the Gucci range of smells and my current collection contains, Gucci. Gucci II, Gucci Rush (not so keen on this) and Gucci Envy. They all stand out for me in different ways (and all have varying effects on the opposite sex) [hubba hubba] but this one, is a Perfume I know my Mum would approve of me wearing. Plus it really has a sensual scent and makes me feel powerful and womanly. (Look out Mr F!!!)
This pong as Mr Fishbulb lovingly puts it comes in the most beautiful solid glass bottle. The bottle bit is square with the lid round, but flat on top take a look at the picture above you lazy so-an-sos! The general style of the bottle, and then the actual fragrance, to me conjures up images of the 1920s or 30s. Unlike a lot of todays fragrances, this bottle was designed to be on display on a dressing table and would not look out of place next to a hand held mirror and a silver compact. Theres nothing cheap about this, and to be honest as the glass is incredibly thick, it is quite heavy and bulky should you want to carry it around, youd need a blooming big handbag (handbag op to follow ;)). It originally came in a plain dark (black or very very dark brown) box with just the words Gucci Eau de Perfum on it in a small lighter coloured square. Completely non-offensive to all and sundry. The choice of products in the range include Eau de Parfum in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml sizes, and I believe in some places you can get a moisturiser too. Gift sets are also readily available in all good department stores that stock designer fragrances.
The ratio of Perfume to bottle is quite low and you dont seem to get a lot of liquid for your cash, but as an Eau de Parfum you really dont need to apply a lot. As Im sure most of you know Perfume tends to be made up of several layers of scents. Top notes, is the way a Perfume smells when you first put it on. Bottom notes, have absolutely nothing to do with the sound your bottom makes after eating broccoli, but are the bit of the scent that stay with you the longest, long after the initial squirt! That other thing I talked about is calling breaking wind or farting if youre slightly more common.
Scent is a very difficult thing to describe, as it is a very personal thing to like / dislike. This Perfume is said to contain among other things, heliotrope, orange blossom, vanilla, citrus, cumin and thyme. I personally happen to think that it is very well balanced between sweet and musky. Upon first squirt the scent is sweet, but not sickly sweet. This is definitely what I would consider to be a spicy scent with floral overtones. As I said previously, in spite of only being a mere three years old (originally marketed in 2002) this has a timeless quality, not unlike soap and flowers. The primary scent reminds me of sweet vanilla, amber, honeysuckle and a slightly bitter orange citrusy tang. Although this sticks around for a reasonable amount of time, as it gradually fades it fades to a gentler version of itself. When it has worn off slightly there is a musky scent of amber, cinnamon, burnt caramel and (this may sound weird but) the scent of an autumn morning, crisp, yet still damp and colourful. It is a glamorous scent, powerful, seductive and very womanly. I challenge any one of you to wear this and not feel absolutely fantastic as a woman! (Assuming of course that you are a woman in the first instance!)
Although I feel this is a scent that transgresses age, it is packaged in a very grown-up way and comes with a very grown-up price tag! You can pick this fragrance up in most department stores or places like Boots. Definitely worth a sniff next time youre passing. Try a little on and see what its like when it wears off a bit. As it only comes in an Eau de Parfum and not an Eau de Toilette* when I come home from work in the evening the scent is still quite noticeable, even to me when Ive been wearing it all day.
I personally wear perfume every day, though I would probably suggest this scent for most people would be better suited to wearing in the evenings, it isnt too strong a smell to be worn during the day though, but some may find it too much when wearing it through the whole day.
* Eau de Toilette is a watered down version of Eau de Perfum, you get more liquid for your money and although it has the same ingredients, generally it has a slightly lighter scent than the Perfum, but wears off much much quicker. It is always cheaper too, but you get what you pay for in my opinion.
Price guide (based on Boots prices, may vary and is cheaper from online fragrance stores)
30ml - £26.00
75ml - £55.00
Though if you look out for them you can get nice gift sets, example £26.00 for a set containing 30ml Eau de Parfum, 4 x 10ml body lotions & 4 x Bath Caviers (bath salts). So you get the extras free. I always look at the gift sets as they can be either fantastic or appalling value.
If you remember one thing from this op, remember this - Fragrance is a lot like wearing a favourite suit if you pick the right one for you, youll feel like a million dollars, whether it costs you £10 or £100!
Gucci have developed this new fragrance, and in my opinion have created a masterpiece. As soon as I walked into the shop, the classy box attracted me before I even knew it was Gucci. It is rather plain but draws your attention because you have to get up close to read the label. By this point you have succumbed to the slight smell which you obviously have to try. I opened the tester box and to my delight I found a huge glass dispenser which is so big compared to the amount of perfume contained within, it could double up as an ornament! The fragrance is made up of Citrus, Cumin and Thyme in contract with Heliotrope, intertwined with Orange Blossom, Orris & Vanilla. In their words " a deep musk underneath completes this signature scent". In my words- it is so lovely I could eat it!!! You can actually buy this fragrance in the duty free shops at Heathrow airport. The RRP is about £60 but I got mine for £30. If you live in London and often frequent Gucci stores, you can buy it in their shop at: 33, Old Bond Street W1X4HH, London tel 22.214.171.124.716 fax 126.96.36.199.058 for other locations please visit www.gucci.com You can also purchase on-line but at the moment this is only avalable for US based clients.
Launched in Fall 2002, Gucci Eau de Parfum captures essence of Gucci style / Feminine, seductive, modern, and sensual?this fragrance captures all / Fragrance notes include: heliotrope, orange blossom, vanilla, cistus, cumin and thyme /
