I love the scent of gardenia and a month or two ago I got it into my head that I wanted to buy a few of the fragrances from the "Flora by Gucci Garden Collection". The collection consists of 5 fragrances; Flora by Gucci Generous Violet; Flora by Gucci Glamorous Magnolia; Flora by Gucci Glorious Mandarin; Flora by Gucci Gorgeous Gardenia and Flora by Gucci Gracious Tuberose. They were released in 2012. ~ Price ~ I knew I definitely wanted the gardenia scent so I ordered a 50ml bottle online from allbeauty.com for £37.85 (RRP £49.00). There is also a 100ml bottle available which costs £54.95 (RRP £72.00). ~ Bottle ~ The bottle is an elongated hexagonal shape and it is made from clear glass. There is a light pink rectangle on the front of the bottle with, 'Flora by Gucci' in black lettering and 'Gorgeous Gardenia' towards the bottom of the bottle in pink lettering. The lid is also hexagonal and made from clear plastic with 'Gucci' imprinted on the top. There is a black bow around the neck of the bottle as well. I think the bottle is rather cute. ~ Scent ~ The eau de toilette has a very sweet, juicy scent. It has top notes of pear and red berries. The heart notes are gardenia and frangipani. The base notes are patchouli and brown sugar. Even though the scent is very sweet it still smells quite expensive. The fragrances I have tried in the past that have smelled expensive have never really been the sweet ones so it is nice to have something that can be sweet yet still quite sophisticated. The red berries dominate this fragrance. They are so sweet and sparkling. The pear is also very vibrant in this and the gardenia is sweet and delicate. I have to admit I find it difficult to pick out the other notes individually in this fragrance as they are so overpowered by the super sweet and fruity notes. I usually find sweet, fruity scents wear off very quickly, but this lasts on my skin for around 5 hours before wearing away, which is better than I expected for how sweet it is. I would say that this fragrance would be suitable for women of all ages. I think teenagers and younger women will enjoy the sweet, fruitiness, but it would not smell out of place on a more mature woman as it still manages to work as quite a sophisticated, expensive-smelling scent. ~ Conclusion ~ I would recommend this scent. It is sweet and fruity, but still manages to smell quite expensive. I think it lives up to its 'gorgeous' name. The bottle is also gorgeous. A lovely simple design, yet still quite unique and recognisable as a Gucci Flora scent. The smaller 50ml bottles are not only cheaper, but cuter as well in my opinion with their stubby little bottles. For me, this has been a good buy.
I came across Gucci Gorgeous Gardenia when I was in a Debenhams one morning. I initially intended to go in there to purchase a Marc Jacobs fragrance but couldn't resist testing out a few others. As soon as I tested the Gucci one, I was in love. The description of this fragrance is something to do with fresh flowers, particularly a "gardenia", which it apparently smells nothing like. I wouldn't know, I'm not a fan of flowers. My description of this fragrance is that it starts off quite sweet. Strong-sweet. Smells a bit like fresh berries and summer fruits. I feel that the dry-down is quite nice as the scent doesn't change much. You can still smell the original sweetness but has a more sophisticated deeper scent to it. I would say that this scent is quite strong. A little goes a long way, and even if you can't smell it on yourself, other people can. The only downside is that while it is a strong scent, it doesn't last that long. Maybe 3-4 hours, as expected since it is an eau de toilette and not an eau de parfum. I would definitely recommend this fragrance. I'm extremely picky with scents and it takes me ages to find a good one. I absolutely love this one and, although pricey, was worth every penny. It's fresh enough to not feel like you're wearing an old woman's perfume, but just sweet enough so that you don't feel like you're wearing a teenagers fragrance. A very classy sophisticated fragrance. I would never have considered buying Gucci before as I find that expensive designer perfumes are always too strong and overpowering. This one is perfect. Approx prices: 30ml - £39 50ml - £49 100ml - £72 Get the giftset if you can as it comes with a 50ml bottle, 5ml bottle, and a 50ml body lotion. It's the same price as just getting the 50ml on its own! (£49). 4 stars. Had to knock one star off because it's an eau de toilette and isn't long lasting.
Gucci Gorgeous Gardenia Gorgeous Gardenia is from the perfume house of Gucci and is describes as "An elegant, sensual celebration of the shrub's first blossom and sumptuous first bloom." I have tried a few of Gucci's perfumes and on the whole they are appealing to me usually and so when they created this new collection I was keen to try them. House of Gucci is an Italian fashion house and this collection which was released in April 2012 was created under the direction of Frida Giannini. The collection is called Flora by Gucci Garden Collection. The collection recreates the five most important blossoms outlined on the legendary Gucci scarf designed by Vittorio Accornero for Princess Grace of Monaco. These five new editions are: Glorious Mandarin, Gracious Tuberose, Gorgeous Gardenia, Glamorous Magnolia and Generous Violet. Giannini says of the perfume that it is called 'Gorgeous Gardenia' because he "wanted to underline the gorgeously feminine side of this fragrance" PACKAGING AND PRICE This scent comes in a hexagonal tall glass bottle with a transparent stopper. The perfume is a pink colour which shows through the clear glass bottle so it is best to keep it in the box otherwise the light will affect the scent over time. The box is very pretty and feminine with flowers and is actually quite classy and understated. The flowers are black and the box a white or pale creamy colour with minimum colours. I actually like the box more than the bottle which I think is pretty ordinary for this price of perfume. The scents come in 50ml and 100ml eau de toilette s and no eau de parfum is available. The 100ml spray varies in price from about £57 on line to about £70 in Boots and Harrods. The 50ml is £50 in Harrods and again cheaper in on line stores if you hunt around. NOTES TO BE FOUND Top notes: pear, red berries, Middle notes: gardenia and frangipani Base notes; Patchouli and brown sugar Just looking at the notes you can see this is a light and sweet floral. The initial scent that I can smell when I first put this on is fresh and sweet, the two fruit notes are not heavy on the fruit but are more fresh and light sweetness. This scent stays with me quite some time and then after about ten minutes or so the perfume settles and warms on my skin. The more complex floral aroma begins to develop. The two flower notes in this perfume are so tropical and remind me of places we have travelled that have gardens full of frangipani and gardenia. The hotel we stayed in Madagascar had the most amazing gardenia plant that we could smell from quite some distance away and frangipani is a plant that takes me back to my parent's garden in the West Indies where our tree would drop these wonderfully fragrant flowers on the ground. As kids we would collect these and make our own perfume using these flowers and water. The heart notes are sweet and the patchouli is not very evident at all in my view. This is a light sweet uplifting perfume that cannot fail but make you smile when you wear it This is not a complex perfume in my mind. It is fresh and light and sweet with lovely floral notes. It is a perfume that I would be happy to wear anywhere and that is especially good as a spring and summer fragrance as it is fresh and light. It lasted pretty well on me and I would say that about four hours later I could till detect the scent on me. It is not a sophisticated heavy scent so might be more appealing to younger ladies although am not that young and love it. I find I like a range of scents I different situations. This is one that I would take on holiday as I feel I would be happy to wear it in any situation and it would neither too heavy nor too wishy washy. Some floral perfumes are too heady and one dimensional where this although most obviously sweet and floral is also light and refreshing. It is not a complex scent as there are few notes but they blend and work well together. The floral notes of this I think are beautifully done and very light so that it doesn't hit you on the head with headiness. It reminds me of walking in a tropical garden and the mix of flowers that are created when the heat hits the blossoms. it gives the scent a very feminine touch without becoming old fashioned and headache inducing which some florals can be. The overall effect that I get from this is that of a quite sweet, fruity, light uplifting and summery fragrance. It is sweet and rounded . the sort of scent that you have to keep smelling as it is so lovely and feminine .It is refreshing like a summer or tropical garden full of fresh fragrant flowers during the early evening just when the air begins to cool . WOULD I BUY AGAIN Well I didn't buy this I got a small sample bottle at least twice recently and if I could afford the prices that this perfume is selling for then yes I would buy it but I do feel it is very expensive and that I can find other perfumes that I like for a lot less money. So in short even though this is a lovely light feminine fragrance I feel that the price tag puts it out of my shopping bag and is also far too expensive to ask for as a gift so I will just have to enjoy my sample and then forget it.
