=== The Product ===
Premiere is Gucci's latest fragrance offering. It can be picked up from the usual places including department stores, perfume shops and perfume counters in Boots and the like. The current prices in Boots are £45 for 30ml, £64 for 50ml, and £77 for 75ml.
=== How I Came to Own It ===
I'm lucky enough to be part of the Boots.com Product Testing Panel and regularly receive new products to try out and review, sometimes before they're released for general sale. This was the first of a few fragrances I've received recently and as perfumes are not something I tend to splash out on often I was excited to be able to give it a try.
=== What Gucci Say ===
Inspired by the Gucci Premiere Couture collection that debuted at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, Creative Director Frida Giannini conceived a new fragrance legend in the iconic and sophisticated form of Gucci Premiere. Just as a leading lady graces the red carpet with her couture Gucci gown, every woman deserves her Gucci Premiere moment. Gucci Premiere is a powerfully sophisticated aroma, with vigorous notes of wood and musk.
=== The Bottle ===
As you should be able to see from the photo the bottle is a quite a squat little gold effort with a cuboid-ish lid and a little charm hanging from the neck.
I have to be honest and say I personally really dislike the bottle, but this is mainly due to my dislike of all things gold. To me, despite the price tag, gold = cheap and tacky looking, and this is no exception. On the plus side, the lid feels fairly heavy and high quality and looks it too, but on the downside the actual bottle looks and feels cheap and nasty, being plasticky and see-through in certain lights, it really doesn't give off the high-end designer vibe I would expect from Gucci.
=== The Scent ===
Premiere combines top notes of bergamot and orange blossom, heart notes of white flowers and musk, and base notes of leather and wood.
On first spray the initial scent that hits me is the orange blossom which gives a fresh, zesty feel which is quite in-your-face at first, but quickly settles into a more subtle aroma as the bergamot begins to take the edge off.
It's only about 5 minutes before the white flowers begin to peek through, closely followed by the musk, calming the scent even more and creating a softer, more fruity-floral feel. This is the part of the scent that sticks around for the longest, making the 'main' fragrance quite a subtle and classic one.
After roughly 3-4 hours the zesty top notes have dissipated completely and the woody base brings a heavier, deeper feel to the musky-floral heart, but I can't say I notice the leather at all.
=== My Opinion ===
I would definitely describe this scent as quite classic, and personally I find it a bit boring. It is pleasant enough, but there's certainly nothing special or unique about it and I find it reminds me a lot of other fragrances, though I couldn't put my finger on which ones. There's just nothing to set it apart from other fragrances on the market and for me that means it's not really worth the money, as it at the expensive end even of designer perfumes.
It's not too strong or overpowering and I'd say it's best suited to daytime wear due to it's fairly subtle nature. Despite being a fairly light scent though it does have a very chemical edge to it that begins to give me a headache after a while.
I don't think this is a fragrance for the particularly young, perhaps under 25, but other than that it wouldn't seem out of place on any woman. I can't imagine anyone actually disliking it as there's nothing in it to cause offence, but it's not one I can envisage receiving compliments on.
The main saving grace of this perfume is it's staying power, which is where it shows it's quality. The scent lasts all day AND night, to the point that I can sometimes even still smell it after showering the day after applying it, and if it's sprayed on clothes the scent lasts days.
=== The Conclusion ===
I was left quite under whelmed by this fragrance. Although it is a fairly nice scent with great staying power I don't think it's anything special so it's not one I'll continue to use. Having said that it would suit most women and would perhaps serve as a good everyday 'signature' scent that is simple, classic and doesn't scream for attention.
Summary: Nice but by no means unique
