There was a rather poignant story to my bottle of Lilia Bella. A close family member was dying. Lily of the valley was always her favourite, so on our last visit to her we picked up a bottle of Lilia Bella at Heathrow. Sadly she died before she could use it. We bought the bottle home again and didn't want to get rid of it. I imagined that such a floral scent wouldn't be *me* at all and was worried that it would be too old for me: I'm mid-forties. Anyway, on a spring morning I decided that it would be worth trying it out. It's a delicate floral but fairly strong, if that doesn't sound contradictory! You pick out lily, plus a hint of lilac, with an initial green top note. As it matures there's still just a pleasant flowery note to it: fresh and not over-powering. Anyone from a teenage girl to an older woman could wear this. Staying power is excellent: a discreet spray lasts for hours and it certainly performs better in this respect than a lot of other more costly eau de toilettes.
It's worth adding that, as with all the Guerlain scents in this range, the bottle is absolutely beautiful. Even if I hadn't liked Lilia Bella I'd probably have wanted to keep the bottle, with its gold detail. Very elegant and classy.
This would make a great present for someone with a spring/early summer birthday or for Mother's Day or Easter. Someone who doesn't want anything too out-there .
